Very solid bakery/cafe. It's right next door to where I work so I finally decided to try it this past week for my birthday. My supervisor bought me a Kahlua chocolate cheesecake and it was amazing. I would happily order it every week it was that good. I also ordered a bread pudding and a carrot cake to take home and share with my girlfriend. The carrot cake was good and had a good ratio of cake to icing. The bread pudding definitely is something you warm up to enjoy because it's not as good cold. The service was friendly and quick. It's a place where you order at the counter and then pick it up at the counter. That being said, there are plenty of tables to sit at inside. You can definitely bring your computer and work here if you work remote. It would be a nice little day spot.

Caramel macchiato

I've been to this cafe about 3 times now, it's affordable with enjoyable bakery options and coffee. I liked their tiramisu cake, it was very moist, spongy, and flavorful. Their mix fruit cheese tart was delicious and the fruits tasted fresh. I like both their iced caramel macchiato and iced vanilla latte. It's a nice scenic environment and comfortable place to hang out with friends because there's lots of seating available. Also, there's free parking in the garage next to Passion Bakery.

Ham and cheese croissant

I've passed by other Passion Bakery Cafe locations previously, but never had the chance to stop in. I was glad to see one recently opened up by me, so stopped by for a latte and to check out their pastries. There's a good amount of seating inside and outside, with the outside tables having umbrellas and are shared with other nearby restaurants (although I'm not too sure how many are open right now). My vanilla latte was good. Not too strong or sweet. All their pastries looked so good! They had a variety of croissants (butter, chocolate, almond, ham/cheese, spinach/cheese), danishes, scones, turnovers, cupcakes, cakes, fruit tarts, cream puffs, etc. I decided on the ham and cheese croissant. It was huge! The croissant itself was buttery, flaky, and soft. The ham and cheese was good, just wish there was more of it. The ratio of croissant to filling was definitely not proportional. Nonetheless, I did enjoy it. I definitely plan to come back to Passion Bakery Cafe for more pastries. I've also heard good things about their cakes, so may give one a try for an upcoming birthday.

8.24.22 I visited their Silver Spring location several months ago and loved their mousse and tres leches cake. Imagine my excitement when I discovered they opened a location less than two miles away from my office. I was jumping for joy! And will probably need to in order to burn off calories if this becomes a frequent spot for me. They have outdoor seating which appears to be shared in the common area with the other retailers. There is also a retail parking garage. The interior of this location is much larger than their Silver Spring location. I do think they should have had more 2- seat tables instead of 4-seat tables. There is also counter seating by the window. Fortunately I think most people take their food to go. Service was fast and my sandwich didn't take too long to prepare. They did not have forks during my visit which is problematic if you are dining in and needed it. I came with a colleague for lunch. She ordered the spinach and feta cheese croissant and a cheese danish. She said the croissant was good, but it barely had any filling. Same goes for the danish. I purchased a tuna salad croissant, two marble mousse cakes for myself and another colleague, and a tres leches for my husband. The tuna was a bit pungent. Perhaps more mayo would have helped. The croissant though was delish and flaky. My husband and I loved our dessert. My colleague said the white chocolate mousse (top layer) was good, however, the chocolate cake (bottom layer) itself was dry. Mine was slightly dry, but the white mousse was so moist it balanced it out that I didn't really notice it much. I want to try other cakes, but love the mousse so much I can't bring myself to. I love Napoleon too so hopefully I have the willpower to deviate from the mousse to try it. Try the tres leches and mousse cake and let me know what you think.

Very excited to try Passion Bakery Cafe's new Rockville location on Medical Center Dr. off Shady Grove road, near the hospital. The bakery is located in what appears to be a newer building, right off of Key West Ave. So located conveniently between Traville and Rio/Downtown Crown, not far from King Farm. There is a small free, surface lot behind the building, and it is connected to a parking garage. I didn't use the garage so I am not sure what the hours/rates are (sorry!). It was quiet mid afternoon, so perhaps depending on the time of day a few surface spots should usually be available. This appears to be an extension of Olney's Passion Bakery, although Google and the PB website don't have this location listed yet. I've posted pictures of the menu, it is similar to the online Olney menu, but a little different. While not a huge menu, everything seems to be very high quality and I can't wait to try more! Today we ordered a few of the tuna salad on croissant sandwiches, which come served with a pickle spear and some (Utz?) chips. Delicious! The tuna salad had excellent flavor, not too dry, not too runny, not too fishy haha the croissants were /amazing/! You can order any of the sandwiches on toast or bagels as well, but why would you! If you are consuming the carbs, do the croissant haha The iced hazelnut coffee was tasty- there appears to just be one size. We also tried the kalua cheesecake, chocolate mouse cake, cheese danish, and napoleon. Heavenly! Every one of them! The napoleon and mouse cakes were cloud-like, robust flavor and creamy, without being bland nor sickly sweet! This bakery truly knows what they are doing haha The cheesecakes are beautiful little round cakes, palm sized (depending on your palm) and rich, good kalua flavor. The best part is that for the quality and quantity of food it was very reasonably priced. Meals for 3, plus dessert for 4, and a coffee came out to less than $50. We cannot wait to come back and try more!

Dirty tables appear to not have been cleaned in at least weeks.

I went in hoping for a latte, but their espresso machine appears to have been broken for several weeks and they just have drip coffee. I have been in here twice and the tables are filthy. They have sticky grime built up that looks like it has not been cleaned in weeks. I am not going back because if this is how they care for the front of the house, what are they not cleaning in the back? I think the biggest measure of a food establishment is how well they can keep it clean. If they don't have enough self-respect and pride in their own establishments to keep the basic areas like bathroom tables, floors, and food equipment clean I don't want to eat there.

Mango mousse cake $24
Lisa L.

This was our first visit to this bakery that was recommended by friends. We picked up a mango mousse cake (small size for $24) that was readily available on the shelf for my birthday. The employee was nice and provided an inscription on it. The cake was delicious, moist, and light, not too sweet. We will return again for another birthday celebration!

The best quesadilla cake ever!! The other pastries and desserts are good as well. The quesadilla cake is only $4.50 and perfect for sharing. So rich and perfect with a cup of coffee.

Can't believe I haven't written a review earlier! I frequent a lot of cafés and this is by far one of the best in the area! The inside is really spacious and theres lots of indoor/outdoor seating. They prepare food and drinks in addition to the sweets on display. I only ever get coffee and sweets so can't attest to the savory food. The desserts are so beautifully decorated and taste great. Their espresso machine is top notch and the lattes are the best. I love the strawberry chocolate mousse cake and cheesecakes. On the pastry side, the almond croissant is my favorite! The prices are very reasonable and the staff is friendly and polite. Definitely stop by and check out this new business!

There's a good selection of pastries and I ended up choosing a coconut cream cheese option that was pretty good and flaky. I wanted to try the pistachio croissant but to be honest it looks incredibly unappetizing. I wish the presentation was different. I did have their London fog and it comes with sweetened honey. So good! Service was really good. It's essentially self serve but staff are quick on the orders.

You pick your pastries from the self-serve shelves. Some items looked like they had been sitting out for a while and were a little dry, while others had just been restocked and looked much fresher. Most of the selection leans toward buttery, laminated pastries, such as croissants, Danishes, and croffles rather than baguettes or rolls. They also have fresh cakes displayed near the counter. The two pastries we had were both good and satisfying. The pain aux raisins had a moist texture with a gentle sweetness. The croffle itself was nicely buttery and delicious, although the cream on top was a bit too heavy for my taste. Prices felt reasonable for the quality and location. Service was quick and friendly. Unfortunately, the coffee was only lukewarm, which was a letdown. Parking really depends on the time and day. We were lucky to find a spot right in front, but the plaza gets busy since there are several popular stores/restaurants, so it can be competitive if you're aiming to park close by. Overall, I'm happy to have another French-inspired Asian bakery option in Rockville.

White Magnolia Milk Tea - Floral without being perfumey or too sharp! Pretty good balance of tea to milk ratio and reminds me of molly tea. 4/5 Jasmine Milk Tea - honestly pretty good too. feels like a molly tea knock off with the menu offerings, cup designs and even flavor profile. its slightly too sharp but still good. 3.75/5 Da Hong Pao Milk Tea - the tea flavor is there but it doesn't mix as well as the magnolia or jasmine. I think they are better at more floral teas but this wasnt bad. 2/5 Banana Pudding Matcha - Banana flavor was not strong, it was not sweet when it should have definitely been more sweet and the flavors just didnt mix very well 0.5/5 Portugese Tart - pretty good but nothing too memorable 2.75/5

When I first walked in, the aesthetic of the place was great. It was quite big with a nice corner to relax in and a display of snacks. The staff was also very friendly and respectful while I was looking at the menu. However, the food and drinks are where this becomes a 2 or 3-star experience. The Items I Ordered: * Brown Sugar Cookie Boba Tea: This was bland and had little to no flavor. The milk was overpowering, and it had almost no brown sugar or cookie taste. * Soufflé Pancakes: I was told these were "authentic Japanese Pancakes," but I am heavily disappointed. The presentation was poor: a paper plate with pancakes surrounded by fruits, a dab of ice cream, and a small plastic bowl of cream. The pancakes themselves were bland and very eggy. Unfortunately, they tasted more like an egg pancake than the traditional Japanese style. They were also very dry. If the cream wasn't included, I wouldn't have even eaten them. Having to rely on the cream just for the pancakes to have flavor or moisture is very disappointing. * Chocolate Lava Buns: I bought one of these, and it was just okay. They were fluffy, but the chocolate inside wasn't melted. It was also very bitter and very heavy on the dark chocolate side so it was not a "savory taste" for what I had thought originally. * Cherry Tart: This was the final item I bought, and again, it was only okay. The bun was a bit hard. While the flavor was better than I expected at first, it fell off quite quickly and became unappetizing. Final Verdict: Would I recommend this place? Not necessarily. Unless you are just looking for a corner to study in and bring your own food, I wouldn't suggest it.

Tatte has a lot of seating, however, they are so popular it often feels small when waiting in line to order. A few times I have visited I could not find a table and had to take my latte to go. If I visit outside their busier hours or I get lucky I have snagged a table and had the luxury of drinking my latte at a table inside. Despite how crowded it is inside I can always hear my friends and carry on conversation indoors easily. Occasionally it has been hard to hear when your order is ready so I definitely recommend checking in at the pickup area to make sure you get your latte while it is hot. So far my favorite latte is the Black Sesame Latte with nondairy milk. It is not too sweet, a little nutty, and so smooth. I especially love visiting Tatte in the fall for their version of a pumpkin spice latte. The syrup they use is dairy free which is challenging to find. I do wish Tatte had more vegan options, and more clearly labeled on the menu what can be modified to be vegan. Part of the reason I have not tried any of the food is because navigating the menu as a vegan is challenging. I hope they can make some changes so I can have breakfast or lunch with my latte in the future. For now I love visiting Tatte for a treat yo self moment. The lattes are my favorite in Rockville and a wonderful pick me up if I need to brighten my day.

I love the high ceilings, layout, seating; it's giving French café with a twist. The desserts look phenomenal and their coffee/tea selection covers all the basics with a few extras (like pistachio, black sesame, and halva syrup), MEM tea blends, matcha, as well as a selection of coolers that sound absolutely divine using white peach/mint, strawberry/cardamom, and mango/ginger syrups. Who doesn't love a housemade syrup? I ordered the honey halva latte, raspberry meringue, pistachio cherry tart, and a plain butter tube (comes with 17 butter cookies). The butter cookies were perfect dipped in coffee, but almost everything else fell short. Looked divine, tasted so-so. The raspberry meringue might be one of the prettiest desserts I've seen but the filling left something to be desired. It had an odd aftertaste, while the pistachio tart barely had any kind of flavor. The coffee was, in a word, disappointing. The crumb cheesecake cup was tasty, but it felt like it was missing something. The woman who rang me up also wasn't friendly, which seemed a little odd considering that I'm a paying customer. Like she had an attitude for no reason. A simple "pick your coffee up over there" would suffice, considering that it was my first time and the barista was located on the other side of the establishment. Would I come back? If a friend wanted to go. Would I make it a point to? Probably not. My visit had good points but overall it just felt like something was missing.
