The cafe is on the campus of the National Cancer Institute and within walking distance from Shady Grove Hospital, so I'd guess that parking could be a hassle during the work week. I will not go back. I ordered a cake from the cake case and it tasted old. They also try to charge me price of a larger cake than the small one I asked for. If I didn't ask for the price prior, I would think that's the price of the small cake since there no price of the cake in sight. I ordered few other items as well and none of them tasted fresh. My co worker told me about this restaurant/ bakery & I had to try it out for myself. I placed a carry-out order and ordered the spinach-wrapped tortilla tuna sandwich. About 10 minutes later I arrived and told them I was here for pickup but they had trouble finding my order but within a few minutes it was ready. Very solid bakery/cafe. It's right next door to where I work so I finally decided to try it this past week for my birthday. My supervisor bought me a Kahlua chocolate cheesecake and it was amazing. I would happily order it every week it was that good. I also ordered a bread pudding and a carrot cake to take home and share with my girlfriend. The carrot cake was good and had a good ratio of cake to icing. The bread pudding definitely is something you warm up to enjoy because it's not as good cold. The service was friendly and quick. It's a place where you order at the counter and then pick it up at the counter. That being said, there are plenty of tables to sit at inside. I've been to this cafe about 3 times now, it's affordable with enjoyable bakery options and coffee. I liked their tiramisu cake, it was very moist, spongy, and flavorful. Their mix fruit cheese tart was delicious and the fruits tasted fresh. I like both their iced caramel macchiato and iced vanilla latte. Stopped here on a whim and glad I did! Pros -Such a cute little coffee shop with pastries -Space was clean, quiet, and spacious with plenty of seats inside -Pastries were fairly priced -Has breakfast sandwiches', light lunch menu, and tons of beverages served in a regular coffee house. i.e. lattes, coffees etc. -The pastries and desserts looked amazing in the glass display. I really wanted to try one of everything. They had Napoleon, a large cream puff with the filling spilling out of it and topped with a strawberry, various flavors of cupcakes, oreo cheesecake, fruit tarts, Cons -Parking garage is in the back and street spots available if not busy -The person who helped me wasn't overly friendly. She did have answers to some of the questions I had. However, one particular desert caught my eye, they called it a Palmier which looked like an elephant ear pastry. I asked if it was the same and she didn't know. So I asked, what was it exactly, and she struggled with the answer. I asked if had sugar and syrup on it and she said yes.. now researching a Palmier I don't think it has syrup. I'm hoping the service was just off for that one day. I've passed by other Passion Bakery Cafe locations previously, but never had the chance to stop in. I was glad to see one recently opened up by me, so stopped by for a latte and to check out their pastries. There's a good amount of seating inside and outside, with the outside tables having umbrellas and are shared with other nearby restaurants (although I'm not too sure how many are open right now). My vanilla latte was good. Not too strong or sweet. All their pastries looked so good! They had a variety of croissants (butter, chocolate, almond, ham/cheese, spinach/cheese), danishes, scones, turnovers, cupcakes, cakes, fruit tarts, cream puffs, etc. I decided on the ham and cheese croissant. It was huge! The croissant itself was buttery, flaky, and soft. The ham and cheese was good, just wish there was more of it. The ratio of croissant to filling was definitely not proportional. Nonetheless, I did enjoy it. I definitely plan to come back to Passion Bakery Cafe for more pastries. 8.24.22 I visited their Silver Spring location several months ago and loved their mousse and tres leches cake. Imagine my excitement when I discovered they opened a location less than two miles away from my office. I was jumping for joy! And will probably need to in order to burn off calories if this becomes a frequent spot for me. They have outdoor seating which appears to be shared in the common area with the other retailers. There is also a retail parking garage. The interior of this location is much larger than their Silver Spring location. I do think they should have had more 2- seat tables instead of 4-seat tables. There is also counter seating by the window. Fortunately I think most people take their food to go. Service was fast and my sandwich didn't take too long to prepare. They did not have forks during my visit which is problematic if you are dining in and needed it. I came with a colleague for lunch. She ordered the spinach and feta cheese croissant and a cheese danish. She said the croissant was good, but it barely had any filling. Same goes for the danish. I purchased a tuna salad croissant, two marble mousse cakes for myself and another colleague, and a tres leches for my husband. The tuna was a bit pungent. Perhaps more mayo would have helped. The croissant though was delish and flaky. My husband and I loved our dessert. My colleague said the white chocolate mousse (top layer) was good, however, the chocolate cake (bottom layer) itself was dry. Mine was slightly dry, but the white mousse was so moist it balanced it out that I didn't really notice it much. I want to try other cakes, but love the mousse so much I can't bring myself to. I love Napoleon too so hopefully I have the willpower to deviate from the mousse to try it. Try the tres leches and mousse cake and let me know what you think. read more

Very excited to try Passion Bakery Cafe's new Rockville location on Medical Center Dr. off Shady Grove road, near the hospital. The bakery is located in what appears to be a newer building, right off of Key West Ave. So located conveniently between Traville and Rio/Downtown Crown, not far from King Farm. There is a small free, surface lot behind the building, and it is connected to a parking garage. I didn't use the garage so I am not sure what the hours/rates are (sorry!). It was quiet mid afternoon, so perhaps depending on the time of day a few surface spots should usually be available. This appears to be an extension of Olney's Passion Bakery, although Google and the PB website don't have this location listed yet. I've posted pictures of the menu, it is similar to the online Olney menu, but a little different. While not a huge menu, everything seems to be very high quality and I can't wait to try more! Today we ordered a few of the tuna salad on croissant sandwiches, which come served with a pickle spear and some (Utz?) chips. Delicious! The tuna salad had excellent flavor, not too dry, not too runny, not too fishy haha the croissants were /amazing/! You can order any of the sandwiches on toast or bagels as well, but why would you! If you are consuming the carbs, do the croissant haha The iced hazelnut coffee was tasty- there appears to just be one size. We also tried the kalua cheesecake, chocolate mouse cake, cheese danish, and napoleon. Heavenly! Every one of them! The napoleon and mouse cakes were cloud-like, robust flavor and creamy, without being bland nor sickly sweet! This bakery truly knows what they are doing haha The cheesecakes are beautiful little round cakes, palm sized (depending on your palm) and rich, good kalua flavor. The best part is that for the quality and quantity of food it was very reasonably priced. Meals for 3, plus dessert for 4, and a coffee came out to less than $50. I went in hoping for a latte, but their espresso machine appears to have been broken for several weeks and they just have drip coffee. I have been in here twice and the tables are filthy. They have sticky grime built up that looks like it has not been cleaned in weeks. I am not going back because if this is how they care for the front of the house, what are they not cleaning in the back? I think the biggest measure of a food establishment is how well they can keep it clean. If they don't have enough self-respect and pride in their own establishments to keep the basic areas like bathroom tables, floors, and food equipment clean I don't want to eat there. read more

Came here to get some desserts and it did not disappoint! Got smaller individual size desserts- tres leches, strawberry cheesecake, Creme brûlée, Oreo cheesecake to share with friends. Creme brûlée was so good, I could have eaten another one. The strawberry cheesecake was so smooth and flavorful and yum-o! Just say there was nothing left after we ate them. I came in about ten minutes after close not knowing what time it closed. The staff was so nice and accommodating. Came in for a Dirty Chai tea after visiting the Thai Cottage Bistro next door. We were overwhelmed by the amount of sweet treats they had up front! I opted for the Oreo Cheesecake and my coworker ordered a few macaroons. My cheesecake was...rubbery? Chewy? Wasn't a fan but according to my coworker, the macaroons were really good! The Dirty Chai tea wasn't very good--not sure what exactly was put in it? The to-go cup was half full and it smelled of straight burnt espresso. They only charged me for an espresso shot and not a Chai Tea so maybe there was a misunderstanding? Tons of spacious seating area. I can see teleworkers and studiers coming here to eat and sip while they work. This was our first visit to this bakery that was recommended by friends. We picked up a mango mousse cake (small size for $24) that was readily available on the shelf for my birthday. Can't believe I haven't written a review earlier! I frequent a lot of cafés and this is by far one of the best in the area! The inside is really spacious and theres lots of indoor/outdoor seating. They prepare food and drinks in addition to the sweets on display. I only ever get coffee and sweets so can't attest to the savory food. The desserts are so beautifully decorated and taste great. Their espresso machine is top notch and the lattes are the best. I love the strawberry chocolate mousse cake and cheesecakes. On the pastry side, the almond croissant is my favorite! Not that great... Things on the drink list are mislabeled based on how they make it. Frozen is frozen and iced is iced. You ask for frozen and you get iced. Mc. Donalds knows the difference between iced and frozen smh. Also, the chocolate moose cake is more moose than cake. There is no balance. In fact everything is moose or more moose than cake. You'll be fooled to thank when your by a slice of cake or when your buy a cake its all cake. No its moose and they should make it known they dnt do cakes they do moose. They darn sure dnt like giv8ng you cheese in your egg and cheese bagel. You gotta pay extra for a regular slice if cheese. They only give you half of a half and say "you want extra". I'm always looking for a good breakfast sandwich and Passion Bakery Cafe did not disappoint! They may not be quite up to par with my favorite breakfast sandwich spot (Lapu Lapu) but they do serve my all-time favorite breakfast sandwich -- egg, cheese, and tomato on a croissant -- and they do it really well! The eggs had tons of flavor, cheese was melted, just enough tomato, and the croissant was big enough to hold all the eggy goodness! Added bonus is that they serve breakfast ALL DAY! Which is really fabulous (can't tell you how many times I've stopped in a cafe/deli/McDonalds for breakfast only to be told I missed the cutoff ). Who said brunch is only for weekends?? Quick and friendly service too! And the dessert cooler looked amazing! Only minor quibble is that when you order hash browns off the menu they give you tater tots - not really what I wanted, and if I had known they were tater tots I would have skipped it - nonetheless they were tasty! I purchased Parmesan cheese breads/quesadillas from Passion Bakery Cafe in Rockville Maryland. When I returned home later that same day to eat them, I noticed all were contaminated with some kind of black, greenish mold or fungus. I called the store and send them pictures. It took a week of persistent contact with the employee to reach the manager after being assured that a refund will be granted. After a week of contacting the store I still haven't received my refund. The response from the store gave me an impression they were not concerned about selling moldy products let alone trying to remedy the situation with a customer where the store was clearly wrong. I pretty much had to beg them for an apology and they still seemed reluctant to give a refund. This is clearly a health hazard if these are not served fresh or kept refrigerated. I am really disappointed, I really liked this place but this apathetic response to a serious issue from a customer is unacceptable. read more
