I ordered a birthday cake and smash cake from them. They were extremely communicative and I…read moreappreciated them working with me on design and budget. For that, I'd rate them 5 stars. However, when I picked up the cakes we noticed there was a small hairline crack in the crown but I figured it would be okay. We stored the cakes in a commercial fridge before it was time to sing happy birthday. When they took the cakes out, the crown was crumbling it's just a cake so I dismissed it. When it was time to eat the cake, we noticed nobody finished it. It wasn't until we came home and tasted it and it barely had flavor. We got the pistachio and raspberry. Pistachio was flavorless and raspberry was light but not flavorful. Customer service 10/10 Design 7/10 (because of the crown) Taste 5/10 They really did work with my budget so I'm wondering if maybe that was the compromise?

Working with Cakes in Style was a pleasure from beginning to end. Usually, I go into a supermarket…read moreand pick up a random cake for someone's birthday, so easy. Not so easy for picking out a wedding cake that will make or break your party and leave guests baffled. I was 90% done with wedding planning and left the cake for last. I didn't want to be bothered with hunting for a vendor, making multiple visits and who to trust. I finally googled a cake store nearby and found Cakes in Style in the Rockville, MD area, very convenient. I took my fiancé at the time to meet with the owner Robert. I made an appointment with Robert; we went in and were amazed. First off, we saw many samples on the counter as well as in his portfolio. Then we went over the logistics of the cake, he took down great notes, provided great suggestions, and was very enthusiastic about helping us. He was kind enough to provide us with an impromptu cake tasting. My fiancé had made up his mind by the end of the free consultation, he picked the design, and we were all set. Robert kept in touch with updates, provided easy and flexible methods of payment and he delivered the cake on time and in one piece. We have seen many cake fail videos but nothing be scared about with Cakes in Style. Our venue was familiar to the owner, so we felt comfortable working with him. We left the store happy and content. We had selected a Red Velvet Cake with a Cream filling, our guests mentioned that it was the best cake they have ever had. It tasted amazing as well as looked beautiful. Presentation and Detail were on spot. I highly recommend Cakes in Style to all and everyone looking for a cake for their special occasion. I will surely use their services again in the future. They treated us like family and not just some random customer walking through the door. Thank you, Robert and Lucia, for adding your magic to make our wedding magical.

The mango lava cake was delish. Super light, fresh, and not overly sweet. I also loved the milk tea…read morewith panna cotta. The silky pudding texture in the milk tea is SO good and makes the whole drink even better. Portuguese egg tart was a little too eggy and buttery for me. Felt really heavy - wish it was a bit more caramelized or custardy. Seems really popular though, everyone who came into the shop left with some egg tarts lol. The interior only has very few tables and seats, so it's not really the kind of place I'd sit and hang out for a while. I think most people just grab their desserts to go. There's also a parking lot in the back with plenty of spots, which is nice. My only con is their hours and availability. I went around 2 p.m. (they open at noon), and they only had three desserts available from their whole menu. I was looking forward to getting a whole haul, so that was kind of a bummer. I've also heard they sell out pretty early, so it's hard to plan what you'll actually be able to try. Definitely go earlier or message them if there's something specific you're hoping to get. Would be nice if they can release a menu online too or post on their social media what the menu of the day is...

The dessert was on display by the counter but I can't remember what it was called. There was a mochi layer on the cake with taro. Very fluffy and delicious. Not too sweet (iykyk)!! Worth the visit!!
