When I lived in Pakistan as a child, there was a street vendor who sold French fries and Afghani mint chutney. Dipping the fries here into the chutney was very nostalgic and brought back a lot of memories. The Qabuli Palaw and Chapli Kabob are so good. The meat is tender, flavorful, and has that fall apart consistency that makes every bite enjoyable. We also tried Jalebi, Firni, Doogh, and Saffron Tea. Everything tasted good. The Firni was more liquid this time and we were hoping for the thicker consistency we had before. The Saffron Tea is enjoyable, but I wish the flavor was a little stronger, which is more of a personal preference. The ambiance is nice. They moved things around to create more space for the restaurant and it really opened up the place. The shoppable items are now on the far wall, giving diners more room. Service was kind. Our waiter spent time talking with another family, and to be thoughtful he brought us complimentary soup. It was delicious and very appreciated. Overall, very kind service and very authentic Afghan food. Comfort in every bite!

I tried the Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee, and it was done so well. The top was torched when I purchased it, so it had that perfectly crisp, caramelized layer that makes cracking into a creme brulee so satisfying. The custard underneath was smooth, creamy, and delicious. I also had the Triple Nut Bear Claw, which was incredibly tasty! I loved having three different kinds of nuts, and the attention to detail with the decoration and shape made it feel extra special. It was one of those pastries that looks almost too pretty to eat, but I am very glad I did. The owner was incredibly nice and helped me make some great selections, which made the experience even better. This cute little pastry shop is officially going on my must stop list. Café Français is a tiny little pastry shop with a display case full of beautiful croissants,…read moreéclairs, macarons, tarts, crème brûlée and other French-style delicacies that make it very difficult to choose just one or two things. I ordered the ham and cheese croissant with Black Forest ham, Swiss cheese, béchamel sauce and Dijon mustard. The owner heated it for me on the spot, and it was heavenly--flaky, rich, savory and satisfying. I also tried the Biscoff Banana Butterscotch Panna Cotta, which is essentially four layers of utter decadence with a surprisingly wonderful combination of flavors and textures. The owner was very helpful and hospitable, which made the visit even more enjoyable. This is the newer Café Français location; there is also a much older, well-established location in Tempe. My only criticism is a slightly ironic one for a place called a café: there is no espresso machine, only drip coffee. So if you want the full French-breakfast experience with one of these pastries and a proper cappuccino, latte or other espresso-based drink, you can't quite get everything in one place. It is also definitely on the pricey side, but for an occasional splurge, the quality seems worth it. I'll absolutely be back to work my way through many of the other delicacies in that display case.
