But sometimes, even the best experiences can take an unexpected turn! So, my son surprised me yesterday with a call to tell me he had ordered breakfast delivery for my birthday. I was excited to learn it was from First Watch, my favorite breakfast spot. My anticipation grew as I opened the sealed bag, revealing the packed breakfast boxes ready to be enjoyed. However, my mood shifted after I removed a couple of boxes and noticed the plastic silverware pouch had been opened. The fork was missing and the opened silverware pack raised concerns, making me question the attention to detail and packaging standards. After noticing the packaging issues, I began to wonder about the cleanliness of the rest of the order. Sadly, some items fell short of expectations -- the waffle was soggy, the eggs were stiff and cold, and the potatoes were simply mediocre. The one thing i did enjoy was the fresh fruit bowl which was the highlight of the meal. This experience left me feeling sorely disappointed, I can only give this experience three stars, and that's being generous. First Watch Silver Spring, I hope you take this feedback seriously, as quality control truly matters.

Dining here I admired how my needs were anticipated and everyone here was a regular, not just a number. That will always be a win in my book and will have me coming back for more. I loved eating in the open bay. But they also have a patio & are family & dog friendly. I order most of the brunch specials: -espresso martini affogato (was so so, a bit too strong but I'm usually a Bellini girl) -challah Nutella stuffed French toast (sooo good! I usually love waffles but these were cooked perfectly aka not soggy & very flavorful) I would get this again -Chesapeake Benedict (Loved it, all meat, no filler in the crabs) -Salmon omelette -Shrimp & grits

I read the reviews about Nick's and decided we had to try this place. What a fantastic little neighborhood gem, brought me back in time to a real old school diner. We were greeted by multiple employees as we walked in, everyone was so friendly. We had immediate and excellent service by Andy, and we both had omelettes that were absolutely delicious! While paying our bill at the register I immediately sensed the young lady assisting us was part of the ownership and I was right, it was Nick's daughter Heather! It was a really pleasure to talk to her, the whole place has such a great vibe, and as I've already mentioned the food was excellent! We will 100% be returning to Nick's and hopefully not in the too distant future! Thank you Nick's!!!

I got the taste of Africa sampler, the jollof rice was not bad, the texture wasn't quite right, the sauce on the side was spicy and flavorful. The wings were delicious, spicy, and crunchy. The calamari was seasoned and prepared well, but it was cold, what I liked the most on the plate was the suya, which on its own didn't have much flavor, but tasted really good when I dipped it in the spicy sauce. Overall a good experience, but instead of just vibes and esthetics, I think they could work on bettering the execution of their food.

One sandwich stood out, and it was a breakfasty one called the Bernard sandwich. It was described as having egg whites, spinach, turkey, a special mayo, and more on rye bread. It... was... DELICIOUS. I came to find out later that it was named after a pretty regular customer who came up with that. So awesome! Unfortunately, when I received my food and took a bite, a hot, completely runny egg came oozing out of the sandwich and all over me, completely ruining my shirt and pants. I was understandably upset. What made the situation even worse was that multiple waitresses watched it happen and continued working without offering me a napkin, towel, or anything to help clean myself up. I was literally standing there with egg yolk running down my shirt and pants because my order was prepared incorrectly. Eventually, my husband and I had to flag someone down--we weren't even sure if he was a server or the manager. He came over and said he would comp the meal. I explained that we were there for a soccer tournament and that I would now have to go out and purchase an entirely new outfit for the rest of the day because of their mistake. We then sat there for 20 minutes, watching employees walk past us repeatedly without checking on us. I finally went to the register and expressed how upset I was. The gentleman there said he would charge us for my husband's and son's meals and comp mine. Of course, my meal was being comped--it was sent back because it was prepared incorrectly in the first place. We then waited another 20 minutes without a bill. Again, employees continued walking past us and completely ignored us. This restaurant is tiny--practically the size of a closet--so I honestly don't understand how we could be overlooked for that long. At that point, I told my husband, "Let's just get up and leave. I guarantee THAT will get someone's attention." Sure enough, the second we walked out the door, the big guy came running after us, yelling at my husband and me. I explained how long we had been sitting there, how rude and dismissive the service was, and how much of our time had been wasted. Apparently, walking out the door was the only way to finally get someone's attention. Mistakes happen. Eggs can be cooked incorrectly. What matters is how you treat your customers when something goes wrong. In this case, the customer service was absolutely unacceptable from start to finish. We are in town for a soccer tournament and had better things to do than spend nearly an hour sitting around being ignored after having our clothing ruined by an improperly prepared meal. Spare yourself the trip. The customer service here was HORRIBLE. BTW my outfit cost more than a comped meal!!!! And a hour of wasted time waiting for our bill!!! THIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE ZERO STARS if that were an option.
