THEIR PLANTS KILL BEES AND THEY DO NOT CARE. Plants sold at this store are treated with neonicotinoids (neonics). When I called to ask about it they didn't even know what Neonics are and didn't care when I mentioned they kill bees. Many hardware stores sell neonic-free plants to protect our endangered bees. I'm such a fan of Parkrose Hardware! Some of the bigger stores in town can get a little intense with too much foot traffic and too many options, and it's almost impossible to get help from any of the staff. But that's not the case for me at this little gem of a neighborhood hardware store. Everyone is super friendly and helpful, and I always leave the store feeling good about supporting a local business. What I like most about shopping here is I'm able to find lesser known brands that are either regionally produced, or made right here in Portland! Prices can be slightly higher than average, but I find the quality of some of these lesser known brands to be better than average. The garden center is a lovely place to visit in the spring and early summer, with a surprisingly large variety of plants and landscaping supplies. Again, their growers are likely regional, which makes for sturdier more climatized plants that will thrive when planted. I've had great luck with everything I've purchased from this department. The store has a large parking lot that it shares with a few other businesses, but my one word of advice is to please be careful when pulling out of the parking lot onto Sandy Blvd. Traffic tends to get a little crazy along this strip, especially during rush hour traffic. read more

This place offers the best customer service I've ever encountered. Each time I've come in, an associate has not only walked me to each aisle I needed but explained the whole process to me. Every time I've come here for a project I leave knowing I'll be able to tackle it with confidence. The selection of products here is awesome, you can get everything needed for a home or garden project. You can even find great clothes and local foods and sauces. It's nice to have a more local hardware store to support over the big national chains. Parkrose Hardware is a huge store and has always had everything that I have needed - Behr paint, caulk, plant supplies, tool rentals, electric outlets, etc. The staff has been helpful. Parking is abundant though it's not in the nicest part of town. This store is much less busy than the nearby orange-colored big box store, which is great for my stress levels, but I wonder how they're making enough money to stay in business. Perhaps their other four locations in the Portland metro area are busier. If you're near one, I recommend checking it out. read more

Went into the West Linn Parkrose HW last night to look at battery powered lawnmowers. The manager helped us with options when they did not have the model that we wanted and -- a quick check of the internet showed -- at a very reasonable price! I did not get his name, but big shout out him for the service. We will definitely be back to Parkrose! Added bonus, the battery powered mower is so much quieter than our old gas powered one! read more

I visited your Portland store 09/25/25 with a new Sthil chain saw my wife bought me for Christmas. I've used it maybe 8 times since new. I went to change the dull chain and it would not go back together properly the chain tension would not work properly. I took it into the store and Ash (the rental manager) took he time to look at it. His attitude was so helpful and he was truly interested in helping us fix it. It took less than two minutes and he discovered the problem and fixed it. Nothing but excellent customer service the whole time. Parkrose you have an outstanding employee here and instead of just quickly looking at it and saying well it will be a three week wait time to get it serviced he went the extra mile knowing it had to be something simple. It took a total of five minutes of his time but earned a customer for life, my wife and I are very impressed with your store the cleanliness organization open space and friendly atmosphere. I hate that I have to write this review for a couple of reasons. 1) We love to support local businesses. 2) We're home owners in the neighborhood. 3) Most disappointingly, this is not the first experience we've had in Portland that seemed racially motivated based on stereotypical assumptions. I'll start out by saying that we are an interracial couple walking into an all white establishment. We are both carrying our personal bags that are considered 'small bags' and what we always carry when we shop. My partner was looking at sandpaper we needed for a project we wanted to get done today. At the same time, I was getting equipment rental quotes and looking to see what their selection was on other things we need for other home improvement projects. It was at this time that I noticed a man in all black, low key following me. Having worked in retail where theft was a big issue, I know what it looks like when security is 'keeping an eye' on someone they suspect might steal. I decided to go back to my partner to confirm my theory - that I was being followed. Not even 2 seconds after I join him in the sandpaper aisle, the security guard walks up on both of us and says we have to check our bags. Bear in mind the security guard already walked by and was fully aware of our bags as my partner said hello to him and even fist bumped him. We of course ask why because both of our bags, again, are very small personal bags. I then shared with my partner that the security guard had been following me. At this point, the security guard starts tripping over his words that "it's policy" to check medium and large sized bags - and the other stores in the complex have the same rule. Well - we often shop at the other stores in the complex, who do have the same rule, however, we've never been stopped for the same bags we were carrying. We of course no longer wanted to shop there, so we put back the sandpaper we were going to buy (which was larger than either one of our bags), and left. That of course is not the end of the story. As we're walking out there is other staff (I'm assuming management), keeping a very watchful eye from a 'safe distance' on us while we ironically walk right by another woman shopping, carrying a backpack we could fit both of our bags in, and no one has looked twice or spoken with her. And THIS my friends is why we suspect this was a racially motivated decision / action. read more

This was my go to hardware store for years, but my last visit might be my last. I walked in to take a serious look at purchasing a pellet smoker grill (Brand name) I noticed that there were two identical smokers with two different prices, I looked around for someone to inquire about the prices, but couldn't find anyone around to assist. After about 20 mins, I decided to walk up to one of the checkers who was not with a customer at the time and asked if I could get a price on the smoker and that there are two different prices, she literally told me to go to their website and order from there. I was like, can't you just look it up in your system ? she appeared to be put off by my question. I left and went to Ace hardware and purchased the same smoker at a lower price, so I guess I should be thanking her. All & All ; Not sure if this location has changed ownership or what, but customer service was really bad for me. Rule 1 in sales, never let a potential sale walk out the door. I'm in love with a Hardware store! Who knew this was even possible?!! Parkrose Hardware is huge and stocks a variety of I tems way beyond a typical hardware store. And the staff is so helpful! They really go out of their way to help you solve your "fix-it" problem and contribute to a fabulous experience. After stopping at four other hardware stores; 2 big box and 2 local, a rep at A-Boy recommended Parkrose because the item I needed was metric and Parkrose is well stocked in metric, evidently. Here's the situation: I have four patio lounge seats that came preassembled and have these little plastic caps attached to a screw that keep the chairs an 8th of an inch off the ground and level. One of the plastic caps broke. The manufacturer wouldn't send me a replacement; they could only replace the chair. Huh! What? Rather than send me one screw cap? At Parkrose I was directed to Lynn in Fasteners for assistance. Rather than just say "we don't carry the part," he figured out a way to build one! Yes, you heard that right. Love a problem solver! Taking a 6m screw and some cap thing and using a tool to permanently attach so them so they wouldn't separate, problem solved. And are you ready for this? The two pieces together came to 98 cents! Even though I only needed one, I bought five because if one broke, others are likely to do the same over time. When I got home, I put it on the chair and once again, the chair was sturdy. Thank you, Lynn! Now, in addition to my major purchase, I wandered around for at least 45 minutes checking everything out. Their succulent and air plant selection is phenomenal, as good as some of my favorite hipster plant stores in Portland and with prices that are more competitive. They even had several different glass terrariums and hanging glass vessels, usually difficult to find. Lots of green houseplants, too. In the garden/seasonal section, there was a great selection of whimsical yard art. Wish I knew about this place when I had my huge garden! Even though my garden is now a collection of indoor plants, I bought a beautiful blue glass hummingbird on a stake. I put it in the pot with my Lucky Bamboo and it looks fab! If you need a gril - or you or yours is into grilling - you will enjoy their selection. Of course I wanted the turquoise grill because, well, it's turquoise! They have Traeger, Weber and those huge Green egg shaped grills in every size. Plus an entire pantry section filled with rubs, bbq and hot sauces, spices, and condiments. Need a cookbook for smoking or grilling? Yep, they have that too. They even have a clothing section featuring Carhartt and other outdoor brands. What? Incredible. Camping supplies? Yep. And of course all of the typical hardware items for plumbing, lumber, electrical, painting, key replacement, etc. The breadth and variety of offerings is unmatched! As is their customer service. The cashier and I chatted about the yard art and she gave me a heads up that their Christmas and holiday decor items are spectacular. I will be back for sure! read more

I rented a Garrett Ace 250 metal detector from Parkrose. Do not waste your money on that machine. it is a cheap detector that would sound alerts almost everywhere for a while, then go back over the same area and no alerts. Good service from the rental staff though. Oh, and I saw they have a New Seasons Market shopping cart that they placed a Parkrose tag on it to make it their own. I wonder if they paid New Season's a $100 fee to take their cart. read more

Overall, I am pleased with Parkrose Hardware, mainly because it's an easier experience than going to a big box place and I try to support local as much as possible. As an avid gardener I frequent their store much more often in the summer for supplies. I appreciate their selection of plants from local nurseries and bags of soils include locally sourced products that you can't find at big box places. I find the quality is better and at the same price point. Parking is easy and it's a much simpler experience getting in and out. The shared parking lot with Grocery Outlet is also convenient if I need to grab a few groceries. I withheld one star because customer service is hit or miss depending on who you get. There's definitely room for improvement there. I hope management addresses this. read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. Because I know every time I go there I will be lost for hours. They have rows and rows of unusual Hardware of all kinds of sizes. I think I spent about 20 minutes looking at roll pins. As far as I know, nobody can touch this place as far as their variety is concerned. In addition, everyone that I dealt with was nice, helpful, and friendly. So you asked why do I have mixed feelings. Because I was overwhelmed and I didn't know where to start and how to stop. They also have plenty of parking, so you don't have to worry about door dings if that's your concern. read more

If the gentle wafting aroma of bbq doesnt please you, we cant be friends. Strong words, but you gotta have standards. It's probably a safe litmus test, though, and we can test it out on weekends here at the hardware store. Last couple weeks they have had one of those huge green egg bbqs fired up in front of the store, sending tendrils of ambrosia into the air. Intoxicating! I like to keep my shopping local when I can. So I pop over here for my hardware and home improvement do-dads. I've been able to find all the hardware I need - bolts, screws, washers, and more specialized items as well. Got my surveying line, a new digital angle tool, and several related terms. Over in house wares they have all my home canning supplies, ad I was able to find some wooden spoons I needed. The pai t department has me covered for brushes and rollers. Gardening isn't on the menu right now (its winter, hello) but I'll probably be here for mulch in the spring. And the walk of commerce leading to the cash register has lots of fun toys, candy, and sodas. Folks here are very helpful. I was asked several times if I needed anything. I need two of everything! I've got building to do! But I'll just take some circus peanuts and a ginger ale for now. read more

So my kitchen pull out faucet broke. It was replaced with one (talking to you Delta) that would not allow the adapter to either my countertop dishwasher, or my portable washing machine. I went to Home Depot- that guy was very nice, then I tried George Morlan (it was my second time)- that was a huge mistake. I have explained I'm disabled, and I have a caregiver that helps. He blew me off telling me nothing will work. Then after that he brings all of this plumbing gear up- to show me how to make a complete new water line - to a place I cannot physically reach He probably had $100 worth of stuff there. So I left feeling not only defeated but a bit degraded. Then I remembered Parkrose Hardware, and spoke to this very nice guy named Matt. In fact I waited for him to return from days off. That was a smart thing to do. I brought everything he would need- and it took a minute, but I have a working dishwasher adapter. I will not forget about Parkrose Hardware again or Matt. We ran into some plumbing problems over the holidays and when the plumber asked me to get parts I didn't hesitate to call Parkrose Hardware. Not only did the operator connect me quickly to a salesperson in plumbing, but he understood what I needed and gave me details about what they had in stock. When I got to the store another employee helped me further by explaining my options. Both the staff and service at Parkrose Hardware are first rate. The variety of what the store carries is impressive. Parkrose is maybe the best hardware store in NE Portland. They're a dedicated hardware store, not a huge, confusing to navigate "home improvement" store. If you can't find it at Parkrose it likely doesn't exist. I had a great experience this morning, as usual, but they weren't requiring customers to wear a mask as it's both safer and the law: "Gov. Kate Brown's order requiring Oregonians in seven counties to wear masks in indoor public spaces goes into effect Wednesday. With case counts on the rise, it's a rational move with little cost and great potential benefit to Oregonians. While early guidance was mixed, health authorities are clear now in their recommendations that wearing masks can help prevent the spread of coronavirus". No I don't like to wear one either. But I do to protect others who might be more vulnerable. read more

Decent selection of hardware. Nobody around to help. The cashier that I dealt with today was flat out unfriendly. I'm unlikely to return.

I rented a 10lb sledge hammer for a good price of $8 a day. I used it to break up a sidewalk for about half a day and then the handle broke. I never hit the handle on anything it just broke. I explained this to ParkRose Rentals and expected to have to pay for a new handle. That wasn't acceptable to them, and they required me to purchase a new sledgehammer for the rental store. I even offered to pay for and put on a new handle for the Rental Team but again they refused. So I had to buy the Rental department a new sledge at full price and no quarter was given. This was the first and last time I will used ParkRose for renting equipment. They used to be an awesome local store but I feel like they're corporate now and unwilling to work with their customer. I purchased a Green Egg Grill from this store as well as some other items, this was my first time in this store. The grill was boxed as the sales person did not want to sell the display. When I got home and unpacked the box it was obvious it only contained part of the grill, all the hardware was missing. The next morning I tried to return the grill they would not accept it due to the fact the cashier had put the receipt in a separate bag with my other purchases. I was told that unless I had the original receipt I was stuck with it. They could not scan the barcode on the box or run my card again to verify my purchase. Evidently I was told I could have purchased the grill anywhere and tried to return it to them, keep in mind the guy who sold me the thing was standing there in the middle of the Green Egg display while all of this is occurring. I try to buy local and this store is a good 30 min drive. If I could not have found the receipt in the other bag I would have been stuck with a incomplete $500.00 grill. There are ways to verify a purchase the most obvious is presenting the card I used to buy it. The manager that I was dealing with was rude, insulting and down right stupid. Yeah, OK! So I was in a serious panic because someone came into my shop today and stole the keys (amongst other things) off of one of my people. So I needed my vintage lock for an old door rekeyed ON A SUNDAY!!! No locksmiths seem to be open on Sunday, including the one I usually take my strange old lock too. NATHAN the INCREDIBLE Locksmith came to my rescue!!! He worked on my weird nonstandard lock for like an hour and was able to rekey it for me!!! He was super nice and a real asset to Parkrose Hardware!!! What a cool dude! I am so lucky he is there and had the knowledge to do it! I would have had to sleep in my shop with mace and a pellet gun... not even kidding... Thanks Nathan! You're the best!!! read more

Parkrose hardware used to be quite unique, if you ever needed anything out of the ordinary or special you could go to them. Most recently every time I go they don't have what I need and it seems more and more like a mixture of Home Depot and harbor freight tools, lots of gimmicks and junk sales pitches as soon as you walk in the front door. Since January, many formerly smoky bars on Sandy now woo...all clustered in the stretch near Parkrose TVH. Some of the old style Bars have great Pool and Darts spaces, & cheap breakfast. (Have Sandy Ave smokers will migrate to the Parkrose Hardware Parking Lot?) IMO, it's not just for locals. Like St Johns, endless discounts, humor and area Cafes are enuf reason to make Parkrose/Sandy a destination. Sandy/Parkrose already has WAY more going on already than Alberta did before some of us got active in the 1990's. What Neighbors know: if a bargain item is out of stock - it may be avail. over near Gateway - at the other True Value on/about Glisan/Halsey. Also visit the Gateway Liquor Store. Vodkas lined up on my Bar are from there. (Sorry friends, Affodable Funiture is CLOSING soon) I shopped 3x recently at the Antique Mall on Stark - just east of 82nd Ave - it is so worthy! A hooked rug and oriental chest insisted on coming home with me. I was powerless before these deals. Some items in the 75% off room still beckon a return...with new deals added each visit, they Know I'll be back. Both Sandy/Parkrose - and Halsey/Gateway streets have good Thrift Shops, by the way...so make your list of locks, paint, and needed tools, and bring in that broken window for a fix. From Drywall Mud to Fireplace Logs, I've found it what I need. When I'm hauling it home, the car people can just get out of my way! I sometimes pull a wagon downhill and back to haul stuff home from P.T.V.H. Feels like being a kid again, and I like it. Since sidewalks are still scarce on our side streets, I use the walk-right-in-the middle of the road skills learned in King neighborhood before investor-activists in our community helped residents make Alberta Street Kool. Come check out the conveniences that keep people living in close-in Gateway - Parkrose - Argay Terrace for so many years once they move here. Our neighborhoods are hidden gems, ready for some stylin newbies to come add Panache. Do! Just don't change the old-fashioned aspects of mid-Sandy too much. Where else would a 200 Classic Car Rally & Street Festival fit so well in summer, or anytime? While a couple downtown parking places became people spaces for just a few hours last summer, Parkrose/Sandy did it over a whole weekend. Gateway Farmers Market moved over to Sandy for the Fest. For years, Parkrose Hardware has been my go to place. But sadly, I think it's time I part ways with you. I was in there about 5 days ago looking to buy some spray paint. I saw a young looking guy standing there on his phone. I politely asked him to unlock the glass so I could get a few cans of spray paint out. He looked up at me annoyed and "snapped what are you looking for?". At this point, I'm shocked at how malicious he sounded. I said I needed some mat black spray for a few chairs I had at home. He says he doesn't have any keys to the locked case. I asked him if he had anyone that could unlock it and he said no. I turned around and started looking for another associate and I heard him mutter the n word under his breath. I froze when I heard those words and looked at his nametag. His name was Eric. I told him I was going to leave a review of this on yelp and he just smiled and said go ahead. I won't be shopping here in the future if this is the type of disrespect I'm going to get. read more

A perfect size store somewhere between your small neighborhood offering and Home Depot. I love just going to browse, there's very little they don't stock. I'm borderline on purchasing electric tools as the Big Box stores are hard to beat on price, but I've bought a few high end items without regret. Returns and parking are easy. And the soda selection is great. About four years ago before the owner changes I did earn much better coupons, the current loyalty program isn't nearly as good. I had the worst customer service from Lacey I have ever received in my life. I was treated like a second class citizen and an inconvenience. She was rude to me beyond my wildest imagination. She lied about the encounter to another manager and tried to have me removed from the store after I called her out on her terrible service. I sent an email to the store manager about my experience and he ignored me. I have shopped at Parkrose Hardware for many years. The company I own is on open account with Parkrose Hardware and the manager of their store, Rodney Anderson is completely aware of the treatment I received and is doing nothing about it. I have waited for more than 2 weeks for any response and sent several emails. Still nothing. Shame on you Parkrose Hardware and Rodney Anderson. But please don't forget about Lacey, she was the cause of all of this and so far is still working there. read more
