It's nice to have a more local hardware store to support over the big national chains. Parkrose Hardware is a huge store and has always had everything that I have needed - Behr paint, caulk, plant supplies, tool rentals, electric outlets, etc. The staff has been helpful. Parking is abundant though it's not in the nicest part of town. This store is much less busy than the nearby orange-colored big box store, which is great for my stress levels, but I wonder how they're making enough money to stay in business. Perhaps their other four locations in the Portland metro area are busier. If you're near one, I recommend checking it out.

Love the color of this grill!

I'm in love with a Hardware store! Who knew this was even possible?!! Parkrose Hardware is huge and stocks a variety of I tems way beyond a typical hardware store. And the staff is so helpful! They really go out of their way to help you solve your "fix-it" problem and contribute to a fabulous experience. After stopping at four other hardware stores; 2 big box and 2 local, a rep at A-Boy recommended Parkrose because the item I needed was metric and Parkrose is well stocked in metric, evidently. Here's the situation: I have four patio lounge seats that came preassembled and have these little plastic caps attached to a screw that keep the chairs an 8th of an inch off the ground and level. One of the plastic caps broke. The manufacturer wouldn't send me a replacement; they could only replace the chair. Huh! What? Rather than send me one screw cap? At Parkrose I was directed to Lynn in Fasteners for assistance. Rather than just say "we don't carry the part," he figured out a way to build one! Yes, you heard that right. Love a problem solver! Taking a 6m screw and some cap thing and using a tool to permanently attach so them so they wouldn't separate, problem solved. And are you ready for this? The two pieces together came to 98 cents! Even though I only needed one, I bought five because if one broke, others are likely to do the same over time. When I got home, I put it on the chair and once again, the chair was sturdy. Thank you, Lynn! Now, in addition to my major purchase, I wandered around for at least 45 minutes checking everything out. Their succulent and air plant selection is phenomenal, as good as some of my favorite hipster plant stores in Portland and with prices that are more competitive. They even had several different glass terrariums and hanging glass vessels, usually difficult to find. Lots of green houseplants, too. In the garden/seasonal section, there was a great selection of whimsical yard art. Wish I knew about this place when I had my huge garden! Even though my garden is now a collection of indoor plants, I bought a beautiful blue glass hummingbird on a stake. I put it in the pot with my Lucky Bamboo and it looks fab! If you need a gril - or you or yours is into grilling - you will enjoy their selection. Of course I wanted the turquoise grill because, well, it's turquoise! They have Traeger, Weber and those huge Green egg shaped grills in every size. Plus an entire pantry section filled with rubs, bbq and hot sauces, spices, and condiments. Need a cookbook for smoking or grilling? Yep, they have that too. They even have a clothing section featuring Carhartt and other outdoor brands. What? Incredible. Camping supplies? Yep. And of course all of the typical hardware items for plumbing, lumber, electrical, painting, key replacement, etc. The breadth and variety of offerings is unmatched! As is their customer service. The cashier and I chatted about the yard art and she gave me a heads up that their Christmas and holiday decor items are spectacular. I will be back for sure!

I rented a Garrett Ace 250 metal detector from Parkrose. Do not waste your money on that machine. it is a cheap detector that would sound alerts almost everywhere for a while, then go back over the same area and no alerts. Good service from the rental staff though. Oh, and I saw they have a New Seasons Market shopping cart that they placed a Parkrose tag on it to make it their own. I wonder if they paid New Season's a $100 fee to take their cart.

    I had a sample :)

This is probably the best hardware store I've ever been to. I don't know much about hardware but it has everything else! They have so many different varieties of hot sauces... and root beer! The nursery has every plant you would ever need. And the employees are so helpful and friendly!

    It's nuts I found these

Decent selection of hardware. Nobody around to help. The cashier that I dealt with today was flat out unfriendly. I'm unlikely to return.

Odds are if they don't have you might not need. Always found the help to be actually very helpful. Not always true in the big box places.

I agree and when I needed a small item, this is the first place I went. The woman working was rude and unhelpful, so I left. Upon leaving, I saw racist graffiti on the pillar of their store. Two weeks later, the racist graffiti is still there. It's too bad they choose to leave it. Poor experience overall for sure. * edited to one star: hi again Steve. I removed the previous review because of your reply that named the employee I complained about. I cannot allow her name to be used, it's unethical. My behavior is, as always, honest and completely unproblematic. How about you erase the racist graffiti, or do you not even know Billie Holidays music?

Really, I see two use cases for the store: 1. If something breaks in your old house, you can bring it in to show to them and see if they have a replacement. 2. If you have time to kill and want to get lost, you can wander around their giant maze of a store, looking at stuff. I'm not sure the store is organized enough to be useful for large projects. For example, if you wanted to get a full set of cabinet knobs, or multiple windows, you may or may not be able to find matching ones of them all. But if you want one of each to replace your current ones, sure! That said, staff has always been great. They do their best to help and know the store better than anyone. So if you're looking for something specific, it's worth it to ask. You can email in with pictures and they can look around for you. They accept returns for two weeks which is great because sometimes, no matter how many times you measured, what you got doesn't fit. Some of the descriptions on their website that really ring true: "we are mostly just a wacky junk store" "it may take many days to take a good rummage around" "we offer assorted collectibles, trinkets, whatnots, and whoziwhatsits" And be sure to look out for hippos of all kinds distributed through the store! Maybe a fun scavenger hunt for kiddos?

I placed a pick up order from online and the cashier called the pick up order to be brought forward. The customer service and cashier argued back and forth about whether or not I even placed the order or was at the right store. I confirmed the information through the cashier while he was quite literally hacking up a lung. I can only assume how condescending the customer service people were with how the cashier was also sour to me. Eventually someone else came up to take the line and told me I could go back and they'd fulfill my order. Dumb and dummer were trying to redirect me to purchase a different bag of salt even though I'd already paid for what I wasn't getting. The system ace hardware was pretty stupid and this review isn't about how they couldn't fulfill my order, I don't blame the customer service people for the mix up because that was out of their control. The customer service employees (several. Very braindead expressions) just shrugged and said the only thing to do was cancel the order through my phone. Thank you for reading this novel of a review. Probably a sitcom working there and free entertainment to shoppers. Expect no service. A man was also waiting (from the time I arrived in the store until a little before I left) for a case to be unlocked. Surprising it took so long to help the man considering the group of 19 year old alternative kids in the back.
