He used to serve me at Rita's across the street, and he's one of those rare lights of a human you never forget -- not because of what they say, but because of how they make you feel. When he looked up and said, "How are you, my friend? I used to serve you at Rita's!" everything clicked. He remembers my name. He remembers my complicated daily order to the letter. He greets me with warmth every single time -- even when I walk in two minutes before closing. And unlike so many places these days, he never shows irritation or rushes me. He makes me feel valued. One night, I accidentally called 30 minutes after they had already closed -- and Farouk still answered the phone, cheerfully, by name, and took my order anyway.
