I found Dr Parham through the contra costa county health listing as highly recommended for the past 7/8 years. I have been struggling with ptsd, depression, anxiety, sleep apnea, alcoholism and addiction. He recommended me to go to AA and rehab. He also got me a c pap machine for my sleep apnea due to me being 270 lbs, I used to be 190 until I fell into everything. He helped me through the many years, I have been sober for almost 6 years, I am back down to 190 lbs and no longer use the cpap. And, yes, none of my problems will go away, there is no cure, but he has helped me learn to control them. No more suicidal thoughts, even after attempting 3x. Still sober, and after today's appointment he told me I have come a long way, and I agree, I was a mess back then. I highly recommend Dr Parham. He pushed me to get myself better and I have. Sleep specialist who lost my sleep study from a provider Jerold Kram. Gharagozlou told me he would personally perform my test. He never performed that test another person performed then I was to have referral done for surgery but almost did not receive since he failed to locate my original sleep study I had provided to him from Jerold Kram. He lost my data chip from my BiPap then his receptionist forgot I was his patient for sleep since he was also listed as a PCP for Contra Costa Health Plan but had appointments to see him for both. He dumped me not showing up for appointment booked in July that I booked when at his office. Arrived for my appointment but not on their software. Never received my medical records either! read more

Unfortunately, I have never met this doctor, so this review is about his staff. As a new patient, I called and scheduled an appointment nearly six weeks ago. Last night, just one day before the appointment, I received a message that the provider I was to see is only working on Saturdays now, and my appointment would have to be rescheduled. Three weeks from now. I've already been waiting six weeks. The manner in which I was told was so....flippant. As if the provider just all of a sudden decided, "ya know, I think I will only come in on Saturdays now" without even considering the impact it could have. Dr. Gharagozlou is my mom's doctor. My mom has gone through several health issues in the past year and Dr. Gharagozlou has been with her every step of the way. He is supportive, spends the time necessary and my mom is happy with him. I am glad she is in the care of a doctor who is good at what he does and invested in the overall health of his patient. I cannot speak to the staff at his office as I have never been there but my mom seems to not have any issues with his staff otherwise I would have heard about it:) read more

Most horrible,misogynistic experience of my life. I went in for a hernia but also because i haven't seen a Dr in years. He didn't listen to my vitals, didn't ask about my diet or anything about myself or my lifestyle. He literally spent about minutes with me just to write me referals for other specialists. He suggested that I get an unnecessary ultra sound of my internal origins which cost me 400.00 to check if my vital organs were fatty but if he would've asked about my diet he would've known that vegan people don't have this issue as it is prone to people who eat animal proteins. He also suggested that I lose weight even though he himself as a medical professional weighed at least 350 pounds... AT LEAST. I'm sorry but someone who preaches health is obligated to be healthy themselves. After i did everything he suggested he refused to give me my lab or test results over the phone and tried to force me to come in which would've cost me another 50.00 co pay which I didn't find necessary. I finally told his assistant that i wouldn't be returning and would be searching for a new Dr in which time Dr Gharagozlou called me to tell me that HE was letting me go as a patient. No sir i fired YOU. I let his massive ego win and didn't argue. It was so clear what was speaking on his behalf. He just HAD to have the last word. It was disgusting. Some Dr's are in it because they're passionate about helping people and some are in it for the money which he made sure to let me know that he pulled 700.00 per visit from patients insurance. GROSS!!! This guy is just in it for the money. Don't put your health in his hands. He doesn't care. read more

Horrible. I would avoid at all costs. The staff continually refuses to do things like fax referrals and then lies about it. The doctor has admitted he doesn't know what he's doing with regard to my care. He is stonewalling me from getting the specialist care I need for my ongoing, diagnosed, complex medical conditions. He is actually making me sicker by refusing to treat me and delaying referring me out to specialists. He admits he is not interested in practicing primary care. The staff is just plain old incompetent, and has lied to me repeatedly to try to cover it up. It is appalling to me that this doctor seems to be content to see me suffer and get sicker rather than do his job. This is hands down the worst medical practice I can imagine. I will be transferring my care and filing a complaint. read more

Worst doctor I've ever been to. If I could give him 0 stars, I would. I have a stomach condition that is well documented in my medical records from previous doctors, but because I'm in my early 20s, Dr. Gharagozlou was convinced that I wasn't sick since, according to him, I can't have a chronic illness because I'm young. He told me that it was "all in my head" and that nothing was wrong with me. He was very uncompassionate and told me to leave his office after five minutes, all of which he spent ridiculing me and my health problems. To make matters worse, I received a bill stating that he performed an eye exam on me and that it would cost me $75. I called his office and complained and they took off the charge, but I'm pretty sure that he is running a scam. He's trying to add on extra charges to people's appointments to try to cheat them out of money. I'm really glad that I'm not being seen here anymore. I never have to be insulted by this con artist, sorry-excuse-for-a-doctor ever again. read more

Dr. Gharaghozlu is the primary care physician for my mother, he has the two thing I look for in a MD, he is both knowledgeable and caring. Since my mother has a complicated health history, she has to be seen by several specialists and in all the occasions the specialists admit that every step Dr. Gharaghozlue has taken so far been by the book and absolutely correct. Without Dr. Gh. guidance, it would be a nightmare to manage my mother's case. I recommend him to all my family and friends. read more

I have a very complex past medical history with diagnosis if breast cancer and recent reconstruction of breast post mastectomy with lymphadenopathy. Related to my inability to work I was switch to CCHP. I was concerned that I would not get services needed under that plan, but I was amazed at the persistence and care I received and was able to see a good vascular surgeon and PT for lymphatic drainage. I believe my health is in the hands of a very caring physician and I would recommend him to my family. read more

I needed a PCP after a car accident, which caused two fractures in my pelvis, overall bruised body, swollen legs, and excruciating pain. I don't really like doctors and didn't have a PCP. It is ironic because i have PhD in clinical psychology so I am one of those worst, "too smart for my one good," patients. However, I was pleasantly surprised with the front office, physician's assistant, and Dr. Gharagozlou. The wait time is pretty much non-existent, the staff is very helpful, friendly, and compassionate. The doctor was very compassionate and thorough. Because of him I saw a good ortho surgeon, was checked for blood clots, and he was very understanding in changing my medication that the hospital's discharging doctor wrote for me (2! opiates) and saying that i'm medically ok to drive (I couldn't even move in the bed without a handle!). Dr. Gharagozlou put me on non-drowsy pin medication and dosage that finally helped and made me feel human again. For the first time, I felt like I will keep this PCP for all PCP things even though I have PPO. I already saw him a few times, and was happy every time wit each visit. I have another f/up today and I feel comfortable talking to him about any issues. I highly recommend this PCP. It is unlikely you can find easily someone as compassionate and knowledgable as Dr. Gharagozlou. read more

Had to choose a primary care physician from lists sent to me from Covered California. I am more than happy with my choice. Dr. Gharagozlou is very attentive and caring. I have had a few things that i had been putting off dealing with. He helped me with them. I couldn't be happier with the results. I feel very lucky to have randomly picked this doctor. My neurologist sent me over to Dr. Gharagozlou for follow up. She suspected some type of sleep issues. Dr. G found some odd things. He was diligent and he kept searching for answers for me. One the of the best doctors I have ever seen, hands down. I'd send my mother to him. The one quality I like the most about Dr. Charagozlou is that he HEARS!. He listens and he HEARS. If something isn't right, you can tell him and he will explain how things work or look for an answer. It is so rare these days to find a doctor who will take the time to find the answers. I'm grateful to God that I found him and hope to keep him for many years. read more

I've noticed that most of the negative reviews here are about the staff and not the doctor himself. Perhaps this is due to the fact that he is a provider in the county health system, which can be tricky to navigate sometimes. That being said, Dr. Gharagozlou is a very compassionate and knowledgeable doctor. He was able to identify some issues that other doctors overlooked, and we were able to discuss my self-care regimen, and how I was to also take part in managing my own health. He is professional, but also full of common sense, if that makes sense. Maybe because he is from another country, he does not just spend 3 minutes with you and then offer you some sort of medication, but tends to explain things in more detail, discusses treatment options, the advantages and drawbacks, and/or the severity of a particular issue versus that which isn't severe. Hard to explain, but again, I'd like to stress the common sense factor. He doesn't jump at every symptom the way I might, not understanding if something is a minor or a major problem, but most things don't escape his notice. I would say that that is a winning combination of detached professionalism mixed with astute observational skills, and I would highly recommend him for that reason. read more
