An MRI report showed that her tendon had ruptured. Before the second surgery, we had asked Dr. Jupina to order an MRI, but he told us it was unnecessary. When Dr. Jupina recommended a third surgery, we asked about his experience. He said he had been performing these surgeries for 25 years, but that my wife would be his first patient to undergo a third surgery with him. We decided to seek additional opinions. Dr. Timmerman was warm, empathetic, and attentive. She expressed concern that Dr. Jupina should have performed due diligence before the second surgery and encouraged us to consult orthopedic specialists at UCSF, Stanford, and Sutter. She also offered to provide referrals. When I called her office, her assistant, Leslie, promptly faxed the referrals to the specialists' offices. We are grateful to Dr. Timmerman and her staff for their compassion, responsiveness, and excellent bedside manner.

Also, from what I understand, including the pictures she showed me, she was successful in reattaching it. Without being an expert on these things, it still seems to me that Dr. Timmerman is an experienced and skilled surgeon. That, of course, is by far and away the most important thing in looking for a surgeon. The reason I am not giving her an unreserved five star rating is the following: In our postoperative visit one week after the surgery, I felt Dr. Timmerman was very rushed. She showed me pictures of the shoulder and the surgery, which I appreciated, but kind of rushed through her explanation of what the pictures represent. As somebody who has zero knowledge or understanding of such things, I really did not understand it all and did not feel comfortable to ask her to repeat her explanations. Nor did she really take time to just sit down and say, "OK, how are you feeling? How is everything ?" I did not come away feeling clear on what I can and cannot do during the entire three months of my recovery period, nor on what the prognosis is for a fairly full recovery of the use of my shoulder.The whole appointment was maybe five minutes and I was asking her questions as she literally had 1 foot out the door of the room. Now I understand that doctors can be very busy, but I really do feel like they have to make time to create an atmosphere in which a patient can feel comfortable asking questions. After all, the recovery period is important. I am not sure how to say this: I appreciate the experience and apparent skill that Dr. Timmerman brings to the table. But as just some older guy who just wants to live out his remaining years being comfortable, active, and as productive as he can, I have to wonder if in the field of sports medicine us older people are sufficiently recognized for who we are.

It stated I had a full thickness full width tear in multiple parts of my rotator cuff. Dr. Bader caught the mistake, and ordered another MRI because he believed the Labrum was the issue, not the rotator cuff. Some surgeons wouldn't think twice and trust the radiologist word, he saved me from a crazy surgery. Additionally, Workers comp originally denied the repairs needed to my labrum, they wanted me to do 2 surgeries... However, Dr. Bader went to bat for me and he went into surgery and fixed my torn labrum in 1 go. His bed side manner is top tier as well, this guy is the real deal and I definitely recommend him.

Four…read moremonths ago I was in your situation, perusing Yelp and other online medical forums looking to find some constructive feedback about Dr Donald Lewis. Surprisingly, there wasn't a word written anywhere about his proficiency at repairing shoulders. If you are considering Dr Lewis for rotator cuff surgery, hopefully these words will offer some peace of mind. Just over seven months ago I took a nasty fall and landed squarely on my left shoulder. The pain was sharp and persistent. After ten weeks I still couldn't lift my arm above my head. My chiropractor diagnosed me with impingement syndrome and strongly urged me to get an MRI. That MRI revealed a massive tear in my rotator cuff with a torn bicep tendon. Due to the severity of damage, Muir Orthopedic Specialists expedited my appointment with Dr Lewis. They scheduled me for the following day. Prior to meeting with Dr Lewis I met with physician's assistant, Joe Torres. Another Yelper complained about having to meet with the PA versus the doctor himself. That's on her, not Dr Lewis. As is their policy, MOS always gives you the option to meet with the surgeon. More to the point, Joe IS the guy you want to meet with first. He is knowledgeable and has a great bedside manner. Unlike some doctors, Joe will actually sit down while having a conversation, and then give you all the time in the world within reason to ask questions. Joe played a key role in my decision to move forward with Dr Lewis. After breaking the bad news about my rotator cuff, Joe laid out my options. He made it crystal clear that I needed surgery ASAP, and that I didn't have the luxury of procrastination. Had I waited and allowed my shoulder to atrophy any further, surgery would have no longer been an option and my arm would have more than likely become permanently disabled. After a quick call to my wife I made the decision to move forward with surgery. At that point Dr Lewis entered the room to introduce himself. He may not be one to chat you up about how you spent summer vacation, but for someone to call him "mean" or "rude" is absurd. I would describe him as warm, personable and caring. More importantly, Dr Lewis is one of the most gifted shoulder surgeons in the Bay Area. He successfully repaired extensive damage in my shoulder, performing three separate procedures, all through four tiny slits that are almost invisible today. After reading my MRI report, my physical therapist told me he was highly impressed with Dr Lewis' work. He said he didn't think it was possible to do those kind of repairs via arthroscopic surgery. For the benefit of Yelp executives I would like to add this final observation: Your review process for healthcare professionals leaves something to be desired. Snarky comments may be amusing for restaurant reviews, but they don't add much value to someone who is in need of a competent surgeon to improve the quality of their life. One whiny reviewer claimed she had to wait "hours before several appointments." That is baloney. I've been to MOS 11 times this past summer; never once did I have to wait longer than ten minutes to see my doctor. Because they are in such high demand, MOS is almost always busy. Even so, they still run the operation like a fine Swiss watch when it comes to being punctual. This lady's entire review was suspicious and a complete waste of my time. What's even more suspicious, is that for every 1 star review of Dr Lewis - no matter how poorly written, it received exactly 8 "useful" votes. Not only were these reviews useless, the coincidence struck me as being shady. If Yelp really wanted to tighten up their reviews and improve the value of their service, they would add a category: "retarded!" along with :funny" and "useful". In closing, if you are easily traumatized because your doctor forgets to give you a lollipop at the end of your visit, Dr Lewis is probably not your guy. However, if you have a serious shoulder injury and are looking for one of the most skilled orthopedic surgeons in the Bay Area to make you whole again, you will find no better than Dr Donald Lewis.

The folks we were handed off to, however... ugh :( One girl took him up to take Xrays, and advised me to stay behind. She didn't ask me; she told me! I should have insisted otherwise, but I think my shock overroad my instinct. He said it went fine once he came back. We waited for a little while, then... The next woman came in, and was SUPPOSED to train him on how to alleviate his pain & avoid further strain. Well she didn't! Someone should have asked me if I wanted to pay for a piece of paper-- I would have declined!!! Perhaps impolitely. Basically, don't allow this office to provide "self-care management training" ... the woman LITERALLY printed out ONE page from the internet illustrating some stretches, and told my son to do a few that he liked once or twice a day. Then I was billed $71 for that "training" / sheet of paper, haha, seriously?? I could have gone online myself!! We also didn't have a therapy exercise session, at least not that we noticed... unless having the doctor evaluate his knee by bending it while asking about pain levels qualifies... this incurred a $65 charge. I don't get it!! I'm sure they know what my insurance will & will not cover, in which case, they should ask if I personally accept the services & associated charges.

Doctor Pecci has taken care of condition for a few years now, degenerative meniscal tear, the wearing down of the meniscus, due to aging. Im not going to dive into how important it is in finding a savvy doctor who knows how to treat and manage a condition like this ... so I'll just lay down a full star review based on my experience. Doctor Matthew Pecci is good find if you're sifting through reviews in search of someone like him. I've been through quite a few doctors. I'm a veteran of many hand surgeries and as I age my hands are acting up and cantankerous and apparently shy at times. He did spend a good deal of time explaining things to me which I greatly appreciated. He offered some cortisone injections but after just having a left shoulder Shingrix vaccine which hurt like heck, I wasn't in the mood for any needles. He did seem just a bit touchy when I explained to him that I had just read an article about cortisone injections actually causing arthritis. He did take the time to explain to me that it is well-known that cortisone injections in the joint can negatively affect the cartilage but that isn't the case when your tendons are injected. He also was careful to explain the need for referrals or consultations with other specialists. So that's a lot for a busy MD.

I refused both times, showing that my entire arm, including my shoulder, were visible. He had scans which clearly reflect my injury, so there was no reason for my shirt to be off. He did a range of motion test on me and when I told him to stop because it hurt, he pushed my arm further. I told him to stop repeatedly and he continued hurting me. He was not taking notes at any point while he was adjusting my arm and hurting me. When I told him that I had limited feeling and a colder sensation in the affected arm, he told me that he had never heard of those symptoms and insinuated that I made them up. He therein stated, unprovoked, that my arm was not blue and I responded that I never told him my arm was blue. He asked if I had a dislocated shoulder and when I told him I didn't know, he told me I couldn't have a dislocated shoulder. The line of questioning/statements were incongruous to the conversation and were alarming. He was hostile throughout the appointment and made me extremely uncomfortable to the point that I had to tell him that I felt uncomfortable and needed to leave. I feared that this has happened to other patients and when I arrived home, I checked online, and was affirmed in my fears that he has. This is not a person who should be performing any type of exam on any person. I reported him to the medical board. This person should not be in a position where he is "treating" vulnerable people.
