Doctor Matthew Pecci was referred to me through John Muir Health. Mister Pecci is a Sports Medicine Physician ... but he's more than just that. He's well educated in his profession, and takes whatever time is needed in delivering the right assessment. Doctor Pecci has taken care of condition for a few years now, degenerative meniscal tear, the wearing down of the meniscus, due to aging. Im not going to dive into how important it is in finding a savvy doctor who knows how to treat and manage a condition like this ... so I'll just lay down a full star review based on my experience. I was having severe pain in shoulder. I had seen other doctors before Dr. Pecci that were not as caring as him. I get steriod injections into my shoulder. He uses sonogram and rmi images to make sure it's in the correct spot. I have several things going on in my shoulder. So glad I switched to him. read more

I saw Dr. Pecci in the Concord office and he was on time. He introduced himself, sat down, told me he read the notes from my referring doctor, and asked me to tell him what was going on. He listened to me and did not make me feel rushed. He asked questions to better understand what was going on and then did a physical exam of my shoulder. He was gentle when moving my arm around to avoid causing discomfort and told me what he was going to do before doing it. Dr. Pecci pulled up my recent MRI and explained multiple images in detail to me and answered some questions I had. He let me know exactly what he thought was causing my pain and suggested an injection to help with inflammation. He explained that process and that he would use an ultrasound to find the correct spot and asked what I thought. I agreed and he got the injection prepared. As he used the ultrasound on my shoulder, he explained what everything on the screen was and talked me through the quick injection. He was very thorough and gave me peace of mind that I could contact him if I wasn't feeling better in a couple weeks. I would recommend Dr. Pecci for your orthopedic needs. Thank you! read more

So I too had gone to 3 different ER's over the course of 8 mos. This last one John Muir referred me to this establishment. Had a MRI and was told "I would be a great candidate for the Tenex procedure." I was excited to think that i could be rid of this elbow and forearm pain that I had been carry around for so long. Initially I figured couple of weeks or 3 off work was doable. I remember not feeling very comfortable with Dr. Pecci because for one, he would never tap on the door to let you know he was coming in, ever. He would just bust through the door which often startled me. Another time he was 30 minutes late and did not acknowledge it at all. Second, when he came into the exam room he would bring his laptop and often talk to that instead of me. Rarely did he make eye contact. I told him how much pain I had been in and for how long, I felt like it fell on deaf ears. He told me to take tylenol. So my second visit, I told him Tylenol has not worked for me and I asked if he had an issue with prescribing something for my pain. I can't sleep and its painful rather I am using my arm or not. He lectured me about getting hooked on opioids and I told him I was well aware of all aspects of that. So he appeared to be upset and ended up not even telling me what he was ordering me for pain or I would have told him I was allergic to the 30 pills he prescribed. All he said is that it should last you well through your recovery. My next visit I believe was the surgery day and I told him those pills you prescribed I am allergic to, had you asked or told me what you were prescribing I would have told you that. Then he prescribed me 10 pills for after surgery of something more tolerable. Never offered me an anti inflammatory, but did tell me to go to physical therapy. Turns out that I was off for 2 months and had to resign from my position because of the pain that I still carry constantly! My arm is trashed. What a nightmare! read more

Dr. Pecci is amazing. I had an injury from working out. I had a partial tear in my hamstring. Dr. Pecci recommended that I get a PRP injection. I was hesitant at first. I went home, and researched this treatment. I'm a workout fanatic. I needed to see a green light at the end of the tunnel because I couldn't workout, and I was so upset. I scheduled the shot. Dr. Pecci was very professional, calm, and he knew exactly what he was doing. I had stay patient because it takes awhile for it to do it's magic, but it really worked. I couldn't workout for 6 weeks after the shot, but the wait was worth it! I highly recommend Dr. Pecci for the PRP injection. Dr. Pecci seems like a very nice man. I would never recommend him as a Dr. I went to him with pain in my hip. He prescribed physical therapy. He did do an xray. The PT did nothing but cause more pain. I asked him to do and MRI. He refused saying that the pain had nothing to do with my hip. I asked if it could be from my back. He said, "maybe". So he agreed to do my back, which was weird because it would have been easy to include the area of my hip. I never heard from him after the MRI. I went in and read the results myself. I ended up seeing another Dr. who did agree to do an MRI of my hip. It turns out that the labrum (the tissue that lines the hip socket is detached) thus the pain. The other Dr. has been fabulous. 4 star doctor; not so for the staff I dealt with. Dr. Pecci was great! Very professional, listened well, answered our questions, explained thoroughly, and didn't keep us waiting long. The folks we were handed off to, however... ugh :( One girl took him up to take Xrays, and advised me to stay behind. She didn't ask me; she told me! I should have insisted otherwise, but I think my shock overroad my instinct. He said it went fine once he came back. We waited for a little while, then... The next woman came in, and was SUPPOSED to train him on how to alleviate his pain & avoid further strain. Well she didn't! Someone should have asked me if I wanted to pay for a piece of paper-- I would have declined!!! Perhaps impolitely. Basically, don't allow this office to provide "self-care management training" ... the woman LITERALLY printed out ONE page from the internet illustrating some stretches, and told my son to do a few that he liked once or twice a day. Then I was billed $71 for that "training" / sheet of paper, haha, seriously?? I could have gone online myself!! We also didn't have a therapy exercise session, at least not that we noticed... unless having the doctor evaluate his knee by bending it while asking about pain levels qualifies... this incurred a $65 charge. I don't get it!! I'm sure they know what my insurance will & will not cover, in which case, they should ask if I personally accept the services & associated charges. read more

This is an update on my (VERY) expensive learning experience with John Muir Ortho/Dr. Pecci. I am extremely dissatisfied with the (sloppy) treatment, (wrong) diagnosis, and ineffective care I received there. I had very high hopes but all Dr. Pecci seemed to want to do was charge me for office visits I didn't need, refuse to order an MRI (even though I ended up needing surgery), provide paltry physical therapy (my insurance was literally charged almost $200 for a freaking ice pack and some stretching handouts from Google), and ultimately, had the result of making me feel like I was not being taken seriously or that I didn't know my own body. He also never looked at me, he just sort of talked at me. The last straw was when, after seeing me three times in one month, he wanted to have another office visit before ordering a simple MRI (and I'm not one of those "give me everything I want it all" people). I was in tremendous pain and I felt like I was being milked for my insurance benefits. I went elsewhere and now I am healthy and pleased. I will never go there again. read more

Doctors don't get any better. Patient, kind, and made me feel comfortable. Honestly, every time I went to see him I left feeling better. He also doesn't make you feel like you're dramatic or not telling the truth. I wish he was a general practitioner! read more

My relationship with Dr. Pecci has been characterized by a lack of concern for my injured shoulder. While Covid-19 is partially to blame, his office scheduled an MRI one month after my first visit. He failed to tell me that I could have gone to another clinic to have this performed. Luckily I was able to schedule an appointment two weeks sooner but then I ran into the same problem scheduling physical therapy. Again I made the mistake of trusting that Dr. Pecci would schedule the earliest appointment possible so that I could start treatment. Well it is almost two months and I am finally going to have my evaluation this coming Tuesday. He also perscribed Ibuprofen and when I complained that my pain was making it difficult to sleep he gave me Opoids. This was with little instructions and an apparent lack of concern their long term affects. Fortunately I found another doctor who will see me this week and I will not have to see Dr. Pecci again. At 71 years old, I have several doctors that look after my care and my father was also a revered physician. Dr. Pecci may be a great surgeon but I could never in good conscience recommend him to anyone. read more

Very unsatisfying experience. 2 long drives to diagnose cause of pain in my shoulder, X-Ray, sonogram, and a shot of cortisone that kept the pain away for 2 weeks. Still no diagnosis or ideas for recovery, just a bill. Health care like turns people to opioid abuse. read more

My right knee was in pain after tearing my meniscus. I ignored the pain for 2 years. I couldn't work out or run or bike for 2 years without my knee swelling terribly. I had to totally scale back my activities. Finally I went to John Muir and they referred me to Dr Pecci. He ordered an MRI and it confirmed my meniscus was torn. He recommended a platelet procedure. I was in and out in 30 minutes. I walked out of the office with only a slight limp and some discomfort. In 5 days time, my knee felt 20 years younger! It's been almost 8 weeks since my procedure and I'm back to biking and walking pain free. Another 4-6 weeks and I hope to be cleared for running and other impact exercises. It's been a miracle. Dr. Pecci was awesome. He was honest and patient and a great listener. He truly worked a miracle on my knee. Really. My left knee I suspect has the same issue, although not as bad. I'm hoping to have the same procedure on my left knee just as soon as possible. read more

Dr. Pecci is extremely patient, gentle and kind. He's very thorough in his explanations. Explains the biological reasoning behind the treatment plan so you understand why the exercises are important. My 87 year old mother had a fractured rib and my mother kept talking & talking, he never once appeared annoyed or impatient. He let her talk, and addressed all her comments. I went to Dr. Matthew Pecci five days before a backpacking trip due to a burning pain in my lower back from yoga. I was so happy how he patiently listened to me, answered my questions, and his diagnosis and prognosis was right on. Incompetent organization. Was directed to them by John Muir's physician finding service. Was told that Matthew Pecci is only a primary care physician anymore if he's on your insurance card. When I told them they need to update their information, they said it's not their responsibility. Clearly don't care. read more

As others have stated, there is something seriously wrong with this organization. I was assigned to Dr. Pecci by my insurance company as my primary care physician. I made an appointment two weeks ago to see him. When I made that appointment they mentioned he was connected with orthopedic associates. I asked about this and was told "he's also trained as a primary care physician and is contractually obligated to see patients as a primary care provider". Ok, that explanation satisfied me. This morning was my appointment and when I showed up, I was told that he wouldn't see me because he's not a primary care physician. What??? It gets weirder from there. After pressing, the receptionist admitted that he does see primary care patients, but that he needs to "approve" them in advance, and that I hadn't been approved. I'm not sure what that even means, so I insisted that he see me and explain what was going on to me directly. I was able to get in front of Dr. Pecci, but he was less than helpful He contradicted the receptionist and said that no he doesn't see any primary care patients, and essentially shrugged his shoulders when I said I needed a referral. He also said that John Muir is a dysfunctional organization and that he's essentially a vicitm too because they keep doing this to him. Wow. Never in my life have I had a physician refuse treatment to me when I've made an appointment. I'd steer clear of Dr. Pecci and John Muir altogether-- there's clearly some sort of internal turf war going on and you as a patient will get caught in the crossfire. I have been having foot problems and decided to see Dr. Pesci despite of some of the reviews I have read. When I went the first time, I explained I was having pain in my right heel and my left knee was bothering me. He told me to simply take aspirin and ice down even though I insisted I have had these pains for years now. To no surprise it didn't get better so I went to see him again (another dr visit $$). Had an ultrasound done (should have been done on first visit imo) and told me the exact same thing ibuprofen and ice. Okay, took Drs advice and 2 months have past and still have the same pains. Just called for a follow up appointment and was told I needed to make 2 separate appointments one for my knee and another for my heel!!!!! Receptionist could care less to try and accommodate my request and was unfazed when I said that will not only not make me go back to him but anybody from that group if this is normal practice. She made no effort to try and keep me as a patient. It sure seems that all they care is that you keep coming back for office visits. I also like other reviewers did not feel that Dr. Pesci had any interest in listening to what my issue were and gave me basic web md orders.
