Dr. Brown made me a a custom nightguard which helped my TMJ so much I stopped using it. I should have never stopped using it now I can't get Kaiser to pay for a new one or an adjustment to the one I stopped using. My daughter was treated by Dr. Brown today. She has TMJ and note that this can be covered through your health insurance( we have Kaiser) under prostethics/appliances after their approval of course. I wish I knew that earlier bc I have a night guard and went through my dental insurance instead and paid like 500-600. out of pocket! This time I paid 20.00 and Kaiser picked up the rest of the tab! So hopefully this info will help some of you researching doctors and save you money! This doctor has probably 50 years of experience behind him- he looks great for his age! After being diagnosed with sleep apnea I decided to opt for a mouth guard in an effort to mitigate the effects and risk associated with sleep apnea. I was fitted for the mouth guard and it came in. They meticulously adjusted the mouth guard to perfection then setup ongoing appointments to ensure it both met my needs and was effective. I recommend Dr. Brown and Aimee for your sleep apnea needs. It also important to note that they are an expert related to TMJ because you may feel some discomfort with the mouth guard upon initial use. However, through regular check ups and adjustments I now sleep comfortably. Did you know that one should feel rested after 8 hours of sleep? I guess I didn't get the memo until I was 36 years old. I showed up 45 minutes early because I thought traffic would be bad. They were able to get me in early. I was fitted for a dental device for sleep apnea in about 30 minutes. I was finished 15 minutes prior to my regular scheduled appointment. Dr. Bown explained what my problem was and showed me everything on the computer screen as it was occurring. I only had to ask 1 or 2 questions, both of which he answered right away. So far I am very pleased and look forward to getting my device in about 4 weeks. I would recommend Dr. Brown. I just came out of my last appointment with Doc Brown. Bittersweet really. Him and his daughter Aimee are a pleasure to be around. I was struggling with TMJ for a long time...getting stronger and stronger pain medication from my regular doctor and hating to take it. Not only that, but also not resolving the situation...just getting worse. The doc suggested PT. I learned a lot about TMJ but the stuff they recommended were not really working either. Finally, I end up with a recommendation for Doc Brow and loved him from the first visit. He's the rare type of doctor that has as a goal to treat the trigger and not the consequence, not the symptoms but the cause. I learned a lot with him about the importance of a healthier diet to prevent all kinds of inflammation I normally have (sinus, tendon pain, jaw pain...)..... I'm still not 100% into the diet but the few changes I've been doing per his recommendations plus the splinter he made for me are really solving my problem and other health issues in my life. I waited a while before doing my review because I wanted to make sure it wasn't just a temporary fix. Dr. Brown is absolutely amazing and I'm grateful for his help. After years of just dealing with chronic migraines and pain in my jaw I finally told my doctor I needed something else. This was after I saw a physical therapist, who helped me learn how to temporarily relieve the pain, and after taking pain medication. I finally was approved to be seen by a specialist and was sent to see Dr. Brown. First off Aimee (the receptionist, office manager, Dr. Brown's daughter, and the many other hats she wears there) is super sweet and friendly and helped calm my nerves (I'm always nervous going to the doctor no matter what). Dr. Brown was very nice and genuine and explained everything. He's extremely knowledgeable about TMJ and related issues and he cares about getting to the root of the problem, not just taking care of the pain. He wants to fix you. I can tell you that seeing him was the most amazing thing I've done because I haven't had a migraine since February (when I got my splint and after a few weeks of wearing it exactly as directed). If you've suffered from horrible migraines (mine were especially on one side and happened to be on the side that my jaw was messed up on) and horrible TMJ, do not wait any longer. He is one of the very few (if only) doctors in the area that work with Kaiser which was extremely helpful to me. But please at least go and get a consultation and you won't regret it. Years ago, when I was experiencing nighttime teeth grinding and the resultant TMJ that went along with it, I went to my dentist, and he had a bite-guard made for me. What a disappointment! It was clunky and uncomfortable! I tried my best to get used to it, but I couldn't sleep with it and invariably tore it angrily from my mouth each night around 2 A.M. Eventually, I gave up on it all together. Now, years later, my wife comes home with a bite-guard from Dr. Brown. It was smaller, more delicate, and looked far more comfortable than the monstrosity my dentist had made for me. So I made an appointment and got one of my own. Amazing! It started out good and now after a couple of routine follow-up visits to fine-tune it, it is perfect. I sleep through the night, and I don't even know it is there. My teeth are far more comfortable than ever before. My sensitivity to cold has diminished as has the constant neck pain I put up with all these years. If you have any TMJ symptoms - or even if you don't - I recommend you see Dr. Brown. Why? Because wearing one of his bite-guards each night will make your teeth last longer!
