I went to Dr Patel for teeth whitening. She negligently did not use the gum dam to protect my gums. She damaged my gums so badly that now I need gum grafting to repair the damage. I asked her to help me pay for the grafting, the total is $7000, and she refused to take responsibility. She took before pictures so she knows what she did to my gums. I asked her for the pictures, and she made tons of excuses before she finally said she could not find them. Dr Patel has zero integrity and won't take responsibility for her actions. I expected professionalism, accountability and basic patient safety. Instead I am left with lasting damage and no support. I would strongly advise others to proceed with caution. read more

After years of not visiting the dentist due to changes in insurance I visited Dr. Modrell. I have been concerned by a few dark spots on my molars (though I have never had a cavity before) and expressed this to her. After a very disorganized first half of the visit (I switched chairs twice though I was the only patient in the office, the staff were unaware of where anything was or what to do next, x-rays were painful and it took an extraordinarily long time to get the correct placement of camera so I had to bite down on the plastic mouth guard over and over and over again, whole appointment took 2.5 hours for cleaning and teeth whitening, etc, etc) Dr. Modrell after examining and cleaning my teeth told me I had 8 (yes 8) cavities with 4 more that needed to be watched. I was mortified by these results (at this rate I would be toothless by 40!) and scheduled an appointment with her to have the first 4 filled. After returning home and fully digesting the bizarre appointment I had just had I decided to pay out of pocket to visit my childhood dentist to see if in fact Dr. Modrell was correct. After a thorough examination of my teeth and the x-rays from Dr. Modrell's office he concluded that I have zero (ZERO!) cavities that need to be filled and one tooth that should be watched. When I asked about the dark spots he told me that they were most likely stains from coffee (bingo!), red wine (guilty!) or any other color altering food or drink. All in all I am glad I trusted my gut feeling and got a second opinion and am saddened that it is challenging to find an honest dentist. Needless to say I will not be visiting Dr. Modrell's office again. read more

I was having a problem with my old dentist he basically did a really bad job on my teeth and I still have to live with It. I went to a few dentist and all of them had a very long wait and I just felt not so comfortable, I already had a bad experience.. I heard about Dr.Modrell from a family member and I went for a consultation. I'm glad I did. I was In pretty quickly, she took a look and explained all the options I have which Is so nice to hear because most of the other ones just told me what need to be done without explaining much. We were very happy to find her, her office is small, personal with each person doing their part to make your visit easy. As a dentist Dr. Modrell is a good dentist. However, the office/administrative practices leave to be desired. I received a 'new patient' offer/coupon. When I booked the appointment, I was assured that the coupon would be applied towards the insurance copayment. It was not. In spite of emails and phone calls (which have not been replied to), It is now over a year and I still get billed for that amount. Beware of 'new patient' offers; they are designed to get you into the office but they are not honored. read more

Dr Modrell is a perfectionist. She takes time to carefully evaluate what you need to improve your dental health! She monitors your comfort at all times during complicated procedures! She explains every step and uses xrays images to illustrate what she is repairing! You never have to guess what is coming next! Her staff is also very professional and competent! They reflect her high standard of performance! I have had the misfortune of having very poor dental service done in the past, and was very nervous to try someone new! My daughters and I went to her office each for a visit after moving to CA from VA and looking for a new dentist. Unfortunately we had a very bad experience since it seemed that they were all about racking up as many charges as they could for suggested services that after getting a second opinion, were not necessary. One of these included telling two of my daughters that they had cavities that needed to be filled immediately that felt off to me so I scheduled a second opinion visit with a different dentist and was told that neither of them had any cavities. I, unfortunately, did have one of the suggested services (a deep gum cleaning) that I was told by their team that I needed and that it would be covered by insurance and later found out that it was denied by insurance and I owed them $1200 for it. I cancelled the other suggested services for my daughters and went to Dental Care of Walnut Creek, and had a MUCH better experience. Dr. Modrell's practice seems to be focused on marketing and getting new patients where they can charge as much as possible and be very aggressive about setting up new appointments (not to mention they will charge $50 per appointment for any changes or cancellations). It seems extremely unethical and I am grateful that we did not continue to go there. read more

Dr. Aminda is an amazing dentist! I came to see her in a bit of a last minute emergency for my 7 year old son who had a rock thrown at his face on the playground at school and badly chipped his permanent front tooth. Dr. Aminda was very helpful about getting me in last minute to fix the tooth! She did an excellent job. No one even knows that his tooth was practically knocked out! We've been seeing her for some fillings as well and she's very good with young kids, my son is not afraid to go see the dentist. Whole office is very pleasant and friendly! read more

I have my dental insurance through Anthem via Covered California, and was very excited that a dentist with such a kind secretary and clean office was available, in-network, and so close by. However, PATIENTS BEWARE. I saw Dr. Modrell for a cleaning. It was great that she shared every detail about my teeth while she scoped them out with her camera, but the cleaning appointment took almost an hour and a half. While she was very kind and gentle, she told me I had SEVEN cavities that needed fillings. Unfortunately, my health insurance doesn't cover work until I've been on the plan at least six months, so all 7 of those fillings were to come out of my pocket. She offered to break them into separate visits over the next couple of months, but still said it was necessary for me to get all 7 cavities filled...which would cost me almost $1000. I felt skeptical, as I haven't had any cavities in years and was cleared by a dentist in DC at my last cleaning six months ago, so I went to get a second opinion from a highly rated and recommended dentist nearby, who was not even in my network (that's how skeptical I was). Turns out, both dentists in that office looked me over and informed me I actually had ZERO CAVITIES. They assured me that whoever I went to must've been looking for work to do, and that any fillings she would've done would be completely unnecessary work to my teeth. I can't believe I almost spent $1000 on fillings with Dr. Modrell when I really don't need any. I think that's dishonest, and I will be sure to tell everyone I know that they should not visit that office. read more

We went into see Dr. Modrell because we received a coupon of $100 off a visit. That's telling me you need business. We needed $5000 of work which AAA insurance is going to pay Info to the doctor after the work is complete the doctor would not do this AAA insurance company is all over the worldIf they put something in writing and they're going to pay $5000 they're going to bed. So after wasting time and money with this dentist she wouldn't except the payment from AAA after the work was done no wonder she Hass to send out coupons. Unfortunately I've had the same experience as the other one-star reviewers. I came to Dr Modrell with ZERO teeth problems (no pain or sensitivity whatsoever) and was told that I had four cavities. I've never had a cavity previous to this and take excellent care of my teeth. During our appointment to get these "cavities" filled I was told that I had three MORE cavities that needed to be addressed. One of the fillings was so painful that I had to come in for an emergency appt so they could give the tooth sedative. At this point I got a second opinion from another dentist. The tooth that was painfully filled was so destroyed by the original filling and the sedative that I now need a root canal (at age 24!!). He agreed that my teeth did not need any original fillings and surmised that Dr Modrell had probably created the cavities. She has made it so five of my teeth need additional work to repair them (all of her fillings never ceased to be sensitive/painful) and created a situation where I now require a root canal. Please be warned and always always always get a second opinion!!! read more

Due to Dr. Mondrell's practice being located in Alamo, I feel I am supporting a local business and being cared for by a fellow member of the community. Her staff is very friendly and personable. I very much appreciate that this practice runs on time and I am never left in the waiting room past my scheduled appointment time. When I experienced minor pain after receiving a cavity, Dr. Mondrell urgently saw me and thoroughly addressed my concern. After two and a half months I was finally able to get the issue resolved with an awesome dentist in Walnut Creek. He told me that Dr. Modrell did damage to my tooth and likely caused me permanent nerve damage. Really, really bad experience, that turned into 2.5 months of pain. I have just finished a treatment with Dr. Modrell which started with a deep cleaning, then I replaced all my old fillings (that were in real bad shape), and also got 2 crowns. Her staff is extremely friendly and I like how they send out all the notifications and reminders before each appointment, and the way they follow up with e-mails and phone calls after each visit. To me Dr. Modrell seemed very knowledgeable and professional. I agree that each visit takes a long time, but I don't see that as a negative point, as she does a very detailed and complete work. Dr. Modrell is caring, her hands are nimble, and she has an artist's eye. The cosmetic work she performed on me looks natural and I'm very pleased with it. Dr. Modrell & her staff were amazing with my 3 yr old grandson's first visit to the dentist. I set up the appt because it appeared that he had noticeable decay in his teeth. He was obviously shy at the beginning but Dr. Modrell was very patient with him and he finally "opened" up and allowed her some room to see all of his teeth.
