If you need extra care for your teeth & fixtures you have found the right office. Had an implant placed in 2017 by another office/dentist. The screw holding the crown into the implant fixture failed. Dr Barpal clearly explained the challenges & possible outcomes then successfully removed the broken screw, not an easy task. I was new to the area and had to get an implant crown replaced. Having several implants and a very negative prior dental experience, I thought it might be a good time to consult with a prosthodontist. I don't usually leave negative reviews and am going to try to be as balanced as I can here. First, the positive. Front office staff are very kind and got me in for an appointment quickly. The dentist seems very knowledgeable. Now for the negatives, because I think the practice should hear this feedback. My prior negative experience with another dentist includes a multiyear treatment plan to place crowns on several cracked teeth from lare fillings I got as a child. Each of these led to infections, root canals, tooth loss, and then implants, and then stomach bleeding, anemia, and ongoing issues that eventually landed me in the hospital due to having to be on and off pain medication (specifically ibuprofen) for a really long time. I also experienced my 3D printed implants getting cracked, so only wanted dental lab implants. When I explained all this, I was met with a ct bit of a sarcastic attitude. I think there are a lot of people who probably have had negative dental experiences who wish to avoid that in the future, so this should be taken seriously and if not met with sympathy, at least without sarcasm. There are also issues with interoffice communication. Before I left the office, I forwarded my dental implant history via email. The regular receptionust was not there, so I asked them to tell her. Fast forward to early June a few days before the appointment for the crown, and the receptionist texted me for dental record! I can see the emails I sent on May 18th and asked to consult them. There also seemed to be some confusion over what tooth this was. This originated with my original dentist who assumed it was number 4, but we established during my visit it is number 5, but this doesn't seem to have been comminicated to the receptionist or noted in the records. Taken all together, this did not inspire confidence, particularly after previous bad experiences, and I cancelled my appointments. read more

I have been remiss in not writing this sooner. Can there be anything worse than having a dentist tell you that the root of your tooth is cracked and it must be pulled only to have it pulled, the oral surgeon tell you it is not cracked and to be handed a fully intact and healthy tooth? No apology was given to me and Dr. Barpal's secretary, clearly, at her instruction, tried to cover up her error. Yes, I did file a complaint with the State's Dental Board. Thankfully, I found a decent dentist but I now am missing a tooth. read more

My regular dentist didn't return to practice after Covid, and I was referred here from my oral surgeon. I should mention I need a lot of work done in my mouth, numerous crowns along with some implants and a fractured nerve root. The first place I was referred mentioned at least 5 times they went to Harvard and was anxious to explain how much this would cost. He was practically drooling over the amount of money he would be getting and severely lacked bedside manner. Dr. Barpal not only has great bedside manner and the like, but her dentistry is great. Considering the amount of work that I have already had done, which is about 8 crowns along with some other treatments necessary, I have remained out of pain each of the following days following treatments. Most importantly, after undergoing a thorough exam...she has been straightforward in the risks associated with some of my decisions...whether to save a tooth or two...or have them replaced with implants or bridges, etc. She was honest in her assessment in saying it can be 1 year...or 10 years in saving a particular tooth...but the decision was mine. She listens to patient's feedback...and that is really important to me. I want to be part of the decision process. Bottom line, I am in my 60's...I have experience with dentists...I have relevant comparisons...and I know I'm going to someone trustworthy, excellent in dentistry, solid Covid safe policies, and a friendly staff. Support staff was all very nice, which is why I'm giving two stars. I will not be returning due to the doctor herself. My teeth are not in the best condition and I carry a lot of shame and anxiety about that. I specifically chose this practice due to the extensive website tab on dental anxiety. I also noted this in my questionnaire, spoke with the hygienist about it, and with the doctor - explicitly saying I felt shame and had difficulty caring for my teeth due to mental health struggles. She repeatedly went over how to correctly brush my teeth / floss, including a way of flossing that was very painful (not just "I haven't flossed in awhile" painful). I made noise / moved and she didn't stop. After that she told me its "not that hard" to care for your teeth. At that point I knew I would not be returning, because it felt insensitive to the concerns and anxieties I had expressed. Additionally, I was looking for a prosthodontist to discuss inlays, and stated my specific cosmetic concerns in the questionnaire. I had to repeatedly push that I wanted to discuss cosmetic work, not general dentistry, through the appointment. I had some teeth needed filling, I told her I had a general dentist handling that, and the cosmetic work was not on/near any of the affected teeth. When I left I was told to book an appointment to come back and get fillings. I hope others who come with anxieties like me do not leave feeling so ashamed or like they were not listened to. read more

I know I've reviewed Dr. Barpal and team before, but I must share my latest experience. I've been having trouble with my teeth -- pain and a sinking feeling that a cavity or root canal was brewing. I finally screwed up the courage to go in and face the music. My hygienist, Jenny, asked if I'm using a whitening toothpaste. Why yes, I switched to one about six months ago. She said I bet that's it. Use Sensodyne and come back in three weeks for your cleaning. Bless her. It's only been two days and I can already feel a difference.
