I have visited this restaurant in the past with my partner and we really enjoyed the food. Recently, they began advertising the opening of a hotel service on their Instagram. The pictures looked great! Clean and modern. I'll add the screenshots from their IG to this review.
When we got there though, we found out they'd over booked their rooms. We got shuffled into a small apartment down the hill that looked quaint at first, not modern, but they said our room would be available the next day. We decided to try to tough it out. We'd just driven several hours to get there and we were tired. So again, we thought why not? We would drink the complimentary wine and beer and laugh about this story later on about how life takes unpredictable turns and you have to roll with it.
Well that adventure turned into a nightmare. What we thought at first was a quaint space was actually just a ramshackle hut that we ended up having to leave early from.
--From a sanitary perspective, it was uninhabitable. Part of the floor was plywood. There were spider webs all throughout the ceiling, the decor was decades old.
--The shower was open so water splashed everywhere on the tile and was a slip hazard if you needed to use the toilet. Not to mention that you'd be stepping on a wet floor that you'd be walking around a dirty floor with
--The place felt like it was falling apart. There were exposed wall studs and you could smell sewage because the bathroom wall had openings to the bedroom. (The bathroom smelled continuously from poor plumbing)
--Worst of all were the insects and spiders. They were EVERYWHERE. I killed as many as I could before attempting to sleep but they buzzed in our ears with the lights out.
Finally we'd had enough. We texted on WhatsApp to verify they had nothing else to put us into and they answered in the negative. So we determined that we were sober enough to drive home. When we told them we were leaving, they offered us a free dinner to stay. We preferred the idea of driving exhausted, in an unsafe condition than stay there because we would get no sleep. We were there for 3 hours and had opened the wine and beer provided (that we had to remind them to bring), showered, used a few dishes, and laid in the bed.
The next day we asked for a refund of the 50% deposit we made of $2,350 pesos (about $130 dlls at the current exchange rate). They said no because we had used the services. We feel that the business should own up to their mistake and the bait and switch that they pulled on us. Instead, they ignored subsequent messages asking for some sort of accommodation or compromise. Simply put, a bottle of wine that costs $200 pesos retail, a couple Amstel light beers, and a shower do not equal a 50% deposit. Especially not combined with their error to book more guests than they have room to accommodate. This is false advertising with a lack of desire to take accountability.
