Grandfather, father, and son arrived on Saturday morning on a holiday weekend to begin the rescue operation on this old system, explained everything thoroughly, educated me along the way, and spent most of the past week digging, cleaning, upgrading, and getting the system working again . . . all in a spirit of good humor and respect for a widow with zero experience in this realm. In the process, they kept us functioning on a minimal use plan (no laundry) so that we had most of the creature comforts with minimal disruption to our everyday lives. They carefully covered holes in the ground to protect children, pets, and wild creatures from the ongoing work and used cameras and other electronics to assess the problem areas in a system that is now obsolete. They left the work area clean and neat, holes filled, dirt raked, septic system functioning. They promised to come back in a month to check the status of their work. Now to be sure that I do periodic maintenance going forward so there are no more emergency calls!! They were flexible in scheduling and worked with me to fit their job into my overall backyard project timing-wise. He took the time that morning to double check 811 markings and even my private lines to ensure no utilities would be in the way. The job took a bit longer than anticipated due to the ground being filled with roots, but they kept going at it and finished the job in 2 days.
