I feel the need to write my first yelp review since the food quality was terrible. Let's see. We ordered simple tuna maki and yellowtail and they tasted like they have been sitting outside for a week. You can actually see the discolored tuna if you ever have chance to order it. Then we Ordered a tom yum soup and it was so bad; The soup was watered down with no lemongrass/sour flavor. nothing like it should. Also the shrimps in the soup were terrifyingly disgusting. After I tasted the soup's emptiness, we ordered the Pad See Ew, which I thought it was going to be a safe choice. But no, the noodles weren't even fresh, all stuck together like leftover pasta from last night. Finally, bubble tea tapiocas were all stuck together as well so I couldn't use the straw to drink them. I had to spoon them out of the glass separately. Lol. Maybe I picked a bad day to go. XD read more

I don't know if the waitstaff man was having a bad day, but he was extremely unfriendly, wouldn't even say hello, greetings, nothing. He seemed extremely pissed. I had never been here, but took a chance. I was the only customer there when I walked in. The Tom Yum soup tasted day old, and the pot stickers were cold. I felt like I was bothering the guy. Everyone has bad days, but if that was indeed the case, don't take it out on the customers. I worked in this industry, so I'm always looking for something nice to say, or nothing at all. Pretty great Thai food and all you can eat sushi on Sundays and Mondays. Can definitely get bang for your buck. If I don't splurge on the Sunday/Monday deal then I only get Thai food like the curry. According to Yelp, this is the only Thai place in Evanston that I haven't tried. (Or rather, it was.) I didn't plan it that way; it just sort of happened over the years. But once I found out, I felt compelled to complete the set. There are a few substandard joints to be avoided, and some solid options, but no true standouts. How does Siam Paragon measure up? Let's put it in the pleasantly-reliable-but-not-quite-great category with Cozy and Thai Sookdee. Friday-night takeout: On a cold night at the end of a tough work-week I craved comfort and delight. Boom--the tom kha gai soup was one of the most flavorful bowls of anything that I've ever tasted. I had never tried this dish before, but it's become an instant favorite. This zesty marvel would have been plenty to serve as a whole meal in a more sensible mood at a different time of the week. Sadly, the tofu pad thai was utterly bland. The noodles and other individual ingredients were very good, but the whole thing was colorless and seemed to lack any sauce whatsoever. If not for the amazing soup, I would have written them off, but they have an enticingly cool dining room and I found myself visiting again less than two weeks later. After a standard seaweed salad, I tucked into my other go-to Thai dish--spicy basil. I am pleased to report that their version is in the 90th percentile. I snared a few bites of the plain ol' "mixed veggies" entree and even that was wholesomely delicious. So...as long as you avoid the pad thai you apparently cannot go wrong here. They have sushi as well, but why opt for boring maki when you can shove your face into a bowl of that amazing tom kha gai? read more

The staff and owner are polite, friendly, and really try to build a relationship with their regulars. I am usually skeptical about all you can eat sushi because I've been let down by the few all you can eat sushi restaurants here in MN. I came here with a group of 7 people and we decided on doing family style so we ordered EVERY single sushi on their menu and amazingly, EVERY sushi I had was dee-licious. However, volcanic, poison, and orange blossom were definitely my favorites. We also enjoyed their miso soups, gyozas, seaweed salad, and mochi ice-cream. Unfortunately, their desserts are not a part of the all you can eat menu. We order delivery from SIAM every few weeks and are never disappointed. My favorite is the pad Thai with chicken, and there's always plenty for leftovers (especially if we also order a starter - like the yummy crab Rangoon). My husband and I love this place! It's our go to for ordering take out. Our favorites are the pad see ew and yellow curry, but we also get the pad thai a lot. They have a deal for a free appetizer if you order a certain amount (over $25ish, I think?), so we get the crab rangoons and they are yummy. We also love their Thai iced tea. We have noticed that the flavor of the dishes can be a little variable, so some nights are more flavorful than others. I'm not sure what changes in how they prepare it, but 80% of the time it's packed with great taste. read more

I was somewhat skeptical to find a good Asian restaurant especially in Evanston. I was proven wrong. This is actually a pretty decent restaurant with good service. I had the lunch special today. It comes with miso soup, an appetizer of your choice, and a main dish. I chose to stick with the Thai dishes since the restaurant is clearly a Thai with Thai workers. I find it an odd combination that they serve both Sushi (Japanese) and Thai food here. However, good Asian food is probably scarce in this part of town. I would be curious as to how the sushi is here. I was very delighted with the service here. I rode my bike to here so I was very parched. The waitress made sure I was well hydrated with water. Also, a word of advice. With the appetizer, they seem to lump it into the main entree. I got the egg roll appetizer and the liquid from my main entree (beef and broccoli) made the egg roll soggy so they should separate the appetizer from the main entree so it doesn't contaminate each other. read more

I came here at like 9:30 last Saturday when my friends and I were looking for a place to get a drink after an event we were at. We were going to go to the wine bar across the street, but it was packed (since it's tiny). We saw the full-bar through the window of Siam Paragon and figured it'd be worth a try. My friends had warm saki and wine, and all three of us ordered miso soup (one ordered regular, two of us got the veggies version). The soup was extremely tasty. When we walked in, several of the staff were eating at the bar (since we came in 30 minutes before closing on a Saturday night and the rest of the place was empty). They quickly greeted us though, and were very attentive (obviously), but we never felt rushed. I will definitely come back to try their lunch special. My sister and I have dined here at least 12-15 times before. The lunch items and lunch sushi selections are very cheap and delicious. The staff is very friendly and that's why we keep coming back. However, if you ever want to order something to-go - DO NOT!!! This place has absolutely made a sushi water out of me, which is saying something because I HATED sushi before coming in. I'd tried it multiple times over the last few years and never acquired a taste for it. We recently moved into the area and when a friend came to visit, we chose this place off of its proximity to our apartment. What we didn't know was that they offered BOGO sushi and for that alone my boyfriend and friend were sold. Seriously, don't be afraid of the BOGO. They have a huge variety of rolls that they prepare fresh. We were actually seated where we could see the rolls being prepared. And one of the preparers remembered us. As I mentioned, I'm not a sushi eater and expected to just order Teriyaki. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that they offered both a small selection of both Chinese and Thai options. The first time I ordered their pad see iew and I couldn't keep my boyfriend not friend out of it. It was so good. My Boyfriend and our friend split 4 rolls and were absolute stuffed. We also ordered tempora and that was really well made. The thing is, they made a sushi eater out of me! We went back the following week (this past Wednesday) because I was craving it. I will say if you come here to do the BOGO, do not come in a big group. I came with 5 others and the bill ended up being more expensive because they added an automatic gratuity onto the table. We think they calculated the tip onto the total before the BOGO, as it was significantly higher than a 20% tip. I have no problem tipping well for good service, but adding such a large tip when we had to get up to ask for things and often didn't get our water refilled was slightly frustrating. This is a place I want to like. I live nearby and the sushi is pretty good. BUT, their attitude to customers is lousy. And their specials aren't so special when you see how they apply the rules. In fact, they are a disincentive to return if you're turned off by the underlying hostility of mgmt. I've had two negative experiences with two of their "specials." My son and I went to their all you can eat sushi night and noticed the warning about surcharges if there is uneaten food at the end of the meal. Since there were only 2 of us, the fear of not being able to finish everything meant we were afraid to order more than 2 items each. It also put a damper on the experience for both of us. I notice now that other reviewers mention being charged for this very "offense" and I'm glad we were careful. But, we won't be back again for that "special." Similarly, BOGO free doesn't mean that items of equal value are paired off first for the discount. (2x15) + (2x14) + 11 + 7 yields freebies of the three cheapest items (7 + 11 + 14) rather than the equal items being discounted first, followed by the cheaper mismatch (15 + 14 + 7). My attempt to dispute the discounting method met with condescension and nastiness. I was cut off, talked over, and argued with. I left feeling disgusted, not the least because I found myself responding in kind to the rudeness of the server. Needless to say, I won't be back. read more

I really dislike leaving negative reviews but I'm so sick of the inconsistency of Siam Paragon. For years we've been getting take out from this place around three or four times a month. The food used to be really good but in the last five or six months the taste and the portion sizes have been inconsistent. Tonight I got chicken with mixed vegetables and it was inedible. There was no sauce, just some watery juice that tasted of oil. The rest of the order seemed to be okay but this is the straw that broke the camel's back. I haven't had a hot, delicious meal from here in ages. Time to find a new spot. I'm not gambling on Siam Paragon again. It's a bummer because it used to be one of my favorite spots. read more

What is good is that you can get a well-priced lunch (miso soup, salad, appetizer, entree) for $7 and your dining companions can order a la carte from the sushi or dinner menu. It would be a good choice for a group as there is most likely something for everyone. I had the lunch special with red curry chicken and crab rangoons, and it was a generous portion and well made, not too spicy but with good flavor. The place was fairly empty for a Thursday night dinner crowd and it didn't have any flare or anything to make it stand out as a restaurant. For food i ordered the Appetizer sampler option B. The chicken portion of this was terrible. The meat did not even look like it was chicken! It was dark and just did not look appetizing, everything else on that platter was fine. I also got 2 sushi rolls: the flirty gal and the dancing shrimp. They were lacking in some aspects and inconsistent in the amount of fillings that each piece of sushi contained. After accidentally wandering into downtown Evanston after a day en la ciudad me and mi amiga caught the hunger bug and ended up on a mission to find something tasty to snack on. Our mission ended up being quite successful as I insisted we step on into SIAM - Paragon. Chic decor, cozy and sexy, I was also impressed they were playing John Legend's second album. ANY restaurant that showcases music that'll get my date's panties wet gets love from this guy. In a snacking mood I started with the Tom Yum Goong, a fantastic, spice infused soup (and a classic Tony Jaa film if you're into action movies) that refused to disappoint. They're quite liberal with their tofu as well! On to the tuna lettuce cups... Ohhh sooo FRESH! This dish "goes hard" as the homies would say and I cannot emphasize enough how fresh the fish was. Fire! Main dish? Pad Thai. It was good. Not the greatest, but definitely quality and "Yum" like Tom Goong. (Sounds like a Lil' Wayne punchline, no?) I'm going to try the all you can eat sushi next time. The service was good and our waitress was attentive but didn't get in the way of me slow dancing like a dunce every time a standout track from Legend's album came on the speakers. We get delivery from here about twice a month. They always tell you 45 minutes and show up in 15 minutes. The food is always hot and delicious. My fave is the red curry chicken. Traveled to visit from Chicago. This is still by far the best Thai food I have had. This visit, I learned that not only do they serve delicious noodle and creamy curry dishes, but they serve curry noodles! Ordered the panang curry noodles and couldn't have been happier. This is quite literally panang curry with wide noodles in place of rice (not noodles with curry sauce). I live in Champaign, but will definitely be returning again. read more
