A godsend to the Clark/Westfield area- exit 135 off the parkway folks. Always rotating craft beer. The BEST of the best. Most of the food is creative and excellent. A few items are bland and need review. read more

I came to this place with my wife and our friends to enjoy a couples night out and I'm so glad that we did. We made a reservation for 4 people at 8pm and when we arrived we were seated right away. Let me start off by saying the atmosphere inside was great, nice vibe and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. As soon as we were seated our server, Tommy, came by just to introduce himself and let us know he'll be coming back with waters and menus. When he returned, he provided the menus, placed the waters on the table and proceeded to let us know about the specials of the night. We ordered the Buffalo Chicken dip for an appetizer which was delicious. We also ordered 4 Blueberry Lemonades (I think that was the name) and main courses of Chicken & Waffles, Scallops and Risotto, Pulled Pork Tacos, and Kobe Burger. All the food was excellent, drinks were on point, and Tommy was always checking on us. The manager even came by twice to see if we were enjoying ourselves. I must say this has been the best service I have received from a restaurant in a long time. I will certainly be going back again. read more

It's a shame that I didn't even get a chance to try this place tonight. I came in to check it out with my mom and I was encountered with a lack of professionalism and immaturity to say the least. Before we could be seated or say anything, we were told the kitchen was closed with bouts of laughter. First off, for your staff to assume that we came only to eat and not to try any craft beer was utterly disappointing. Too bad I will not be returning to give it a chance. read more

Must try the chicken and waffles. Decent craft beer. Very noisy atmosphere. Go around 6-630 on a Friday because after that it gets a bit crowded. Nice wait staff. read more

If there is one piece of advice I can give this restaurant, it would be DON'T CHANGE. This restaurant has to be one of the best restaurants my wife and I have ever been to. We always enjoy going here specifically for their upside down nachos! Raul recommended we try their voodoo wings, and I instantly found another reason to crave their food! The best part of all has been their service each and every time we have been there. Our server Abby is probably one of the most knowledgeable and professional individuals I have come across. I ask for a unique taste in beer, and she instantly brought me some beer to sample. In turn, I ended up going with her and Raul's suggestions and had no complaints. BTW, if you think this was a fluke of some sort then imagine this... My wife and I had already eaten dinner and were pretty much full. The only reason we went was to grab their upside down fries!! This place is just simply amazing! read more

Awesome night out. Loud in a fun and friendly way. Lots of people having a fun time.

Abby is the best bartender! Truly we only stayed at paragon so long because she was so accommodating; my friend and I came for an early lunch on Sunday and ended up staying well into dinner because of Abby and how wonderful she was to us. The only reason I give this place 4 stars instead of 5 was because in the middle of the bar, the manager began yelling at Abby (who was the bartender at the time) in front of us and other customers and it struck me as very unprofessional. If there is a problem between employees, take it to the back, not in front of everyone. Plus we weren't served for about 10 minutes because of this. Overall great food, drinks, and atmosphere, but I would encourage management to be slightly more courteous to the experience of customers. read more

Pretty good happy hour specials and good bar food. I'm sure the rest of the menu is great but I didn't have dinner here. All the food looked delicious. Lots on tap and a large alcohol selection. read more

This has to be one of the top five worst restaurants I have ever been to. Went there for lunch today 1st mistake took 45 minutes to get a hamburger and grilled chicken. The chicken for my husband had to be a little bit smaller then an I phone 4 thought it was from the children's menu my hamburger suppose to be med rare was way well done French fries cold and soggy. 20 morons standing around not helping the four people in here. Asked the idiot waitress for bread and she told us they did not have any bread???? If this so called chief won some sort of contest it had to be fixed. Way overpriced and totally sucks. If they last till December it will be a miracle. WILL NEVER GO BACK!!! SAVE YOUR $$$$$$$$$ read more

Hands down the BEST local tap pub. Always a great selection of beers. And for a stout lover that is hard to find. Katie is always attentive and knows her stuff. She learns what you like and steers you in the right direction on their large beer list, tap or bottled! Give it a try and you won't be disappointed. read more

We had gone to Paragon Tap & Table with our children and another family. The atmosphere is great as it has a bar area that is more casual and a dining area that is a bit more upscale. We ate in the dining area and had a very friendly and knowledgeable waitress. I gave this restaurant 3 stars because as they are known for their draft beers they were out of 2 of the ones we originally wanted to try and then another one that is on the menu was not available as part of the sampler they offer because it is a "signature" item. It did not say that anywhere on the menu. Another reason I give this restaurant 3 stars is because of the pricing. The children had pasta with butter and it was close to $10 for a small bowl. Another diner with us and I ordered Seafood Paella and it was loaded with mussels and not too much other fish and had little to no rice with the dish. It didn't have a lot of flavor so a lot of salt and parmesan cheese needed to be added. The other diners at our table had steaks and were happy with their menu selection. We all tried different desserts and each one was very delicious and presented nicely. One of the guests dessert was forgotten and when we asked for it it did come out shorty after. I would return and try other items on the menu however only for a special occasion as it was very expensive. read more

It is hit or miss for take out here. Last time it was a miss - disappointed because you know how you can taste something from the second you order it? Well, so much oil that you couldn't eat it. It will be a while before we visit Paragon or take out from here! read more

Don't usually write reviews but thought this place had a great story, nice digs, interesting menu and was by far the best of the recent local pubs established in the Scotch Plains, Fanwood, Westfield, Clark area. Good beer selection. Tasty burger and fries. Friendly service. Some interesting choices that were different then the run of the mill places. We will be back. read more

We really want to like this place but also in our second try we experienced some flaws. Craftiness doesn't live up to the promise. (First time was total disaster but they were nice enough to comp our meals so they deserved a second chance) this time: appetizers came before our drinks were served. Lavender bee cocktail had great flavor potential but was cloyingly sweet. Not what I expect of a crafty cocktail! One glass of water had a fly in it. Bus boy brings a replacement glass of water to a neighboring table...ugh. Food? Pork belly not bad but burger was somewhat overcooked (order rare when u want medium rare) . Chef Eric came over and we shared some of our observations, he reacted correctly, hence 3 stars instead of 2. Potential is there, but I am not in love yet. We Will probably wait a few months and then decide if will give it a third (last) try. read more

Came here a week or two after it opened and loved it. I anticipated some 'new restaurant' glitches but that was not the case. Our waiter was attentive, honest and informative. Absolutely loved the meatloaf sandwich and the french fries were great. Drink menu looked good as well. Prices were fair for the quality of the food, in my opinion. We will definitely be back. read more

Ate there last night. Service was fine if a little slow. It is loud but that's ok. Thought 'Id comment after reading reviews from last few months. Food was not good. My burger was way overcooked and I mentioned it to the manager who seemed surprised and said he would tell kitchen (I ate it anyway...overcooked). After reading reviews from past few months noting same issues it led me to think that they don't seem to care since obviously this is a common complaint. Chef/owner/chopped winner was in kitchen but needs to focus more on quality. read more

Went with a group of 7 last night with a reservation. The table was probably a good fit for 4, but impossibly tight for 7 and that should have been obvious to the staff. The hostess was intently set on getting menus handed out while one member of the party was still standing waiting for a chair..not a good start. Finally got a chair to accommodate the 7 person at the end of the table. Drinks ordered, waitress very friendly and knowledgeable. At this point we decided that elbow to elbow wasn't going to work and asked for the manager, as a table for 2 became available that could be joined with ours. To his credit...he checked waiting reservations and put the tables together for us. I hate asking for management, but other staff weren't recognizing the problem so it had to be. The food was very good! The short rib sandwich was delicious and tender. Other members of the party were impressed with the skirt steak and pork and pear ravioli. Service was attentive and not over bearing. Waitress had knowledge of the beers available. One problem that seems to be commonly mentioned is the noise level. It really is something they need to address. Coming home hoarse after dinner and only hearing a portion of the tables conversation isn't a good thing. All in all..a nice evening and we will be back. read more

Love this place. Great beer selection and innovative menu that's constantly changing. Would have given it 5 stars but the bar has limited seating and one of the partners often takes up a bar stool as he sits with his laptop "working". This to me is a big no no. That's seat should be for customers not employees or part owners. read more

Tried this new place with a bunch of friends. Wine was tasty. The appetizers were good, but reminded me of dishes Ive had elsewhere (so likely copied??). The dinner was awful. Fish very fishy. The sauce that accompanied the fish was vile to look at. Vegetables were over cooked. The waiter seemed dazed and confused and was very slow, which was annoying considering the restaurants was dead. My friends had more complaints than positive things to say about their dishes (only 1 raved about her meal). Wouldn't waste my time or money again. read more

Great food and service, always new beers on tap

We went to Paragon today for the Sunday Brunch. The food was fantastic and it was one of the best brunches we have ever been to. The food was fresh and delicious. They had little Shepard pies in ceramic mugs and nice big jumbo shrimp cocktail. The table service could use a little help as far as checking on us for more drinks and cleaning up plates etc but besides that small improvement everything else was spot on. I highly recommend trying it and getting there a little before noon as it gets packed fast. They also have an unlimited mimosa and Bloody Mary bar. I didn't try it but people were lined up for refills. read more

August 2015. Tried it again. Sat down and a filthy server came to the table to pour water. Stuck his dirty hand inside my glass to lift it up. With that we got up and left. Never to return. read more

Came here with friends who are new to the area. Waiter was very attentive and recommended the buffalo dip which was good. I ordered a burger that was very bland my wife ordered a different burger which was also bland. The beer selection was good so I would come in for that but wouldn't eat a meal here again. read more

Have been here a few times last month. This place is awesome. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable and food is terrific. A hidden gem.

Don't waste your money. $18 for fried onion & coleslaw sandwich. Oh, it was suppose to be a brisket sandwich. The must have forgot that.

Ordered chicken sandwich which had virtually no chicken. Extremely overdressed Salad with wilted and black decayed lettuce. Menus with missing prices and inconsistent prices. Definitely not worth it. read more

My wife and I decided to try Paragon on Saturday, April 18th. Our server was very nice. She started by introducing herself, which is typically done. Then our poor server was giving a rehearsed description of the "chopped champion, blah blah blah chef/owner". I playfully asked her if she was required to recite this. She wouldn't confirm or deny it. Enough of that. We ordered drinks, our server offered a beer tasting for me, since they didn't have Guiness. I ordered a Jack Daniels Old Fashioned instead of beer. We both had a laugh at the 5 onion soup. Sometimes less is more, especially with a french onion soup. We ordered the flatbread appetizer. My wife had a question regarding the Chicken Roulade. She wanted it without the green peppers. The server went to check and said it could not come without them. I asked to speak to the chef. The manager explained that the stuffing was made in the morning, then stuffed into the chicken and tied. Then par cooked for the evening. Really??? A dish that isn't cooked to order? I asked again to see the chef. This time he actually appeared. Never have I had to ask twice to see a chef. So he appeared shook my hand more than firmly, had to ask to have him stop squeezing my hand. His explanation of the dish was that it couldn't be done in less than an hour and a half. He gave his description verbatim of the manager's, but very condescending. I didn't bother to remind him there a many versions of that dish that are prepared in 35 minutes or less. We ordered something else. So as we are about to have finished our appetizer, a careless busboy drop dishes upon themselves as he was carrying them. The result was a splattered red substance all over my wife's drink, arms, back, and hair. It was also all over the paneled divider we were sat next to, my wife's chair an her side of the table cloth. My wife that was very angry. There were servers that came over to help clean off my wife, but no one suggested a female server assist her in the bathroom where the light had to be better, because when we arrived at home, there were still stains and clumps of the red substance in her hair. While we only received apologies, we never heard the manager offer to comp drinks or the appetizer. We asked for the check, I paid with a credit card and left the tip amount blank. I placed an asterisk with our server's name at the bottom of the check. I found our server by the host station and gave her a cash tip and told her not to share it with the bus crew. Incredulous that the manager didn't offer a comp, and the "Winner of a Chopped competition", Culinary Institute of America graduate, owner didn't even apologize. I would say he probably has better knife skills than people skills, or his manager never told him about it, until our entrees had to be 86'd.... read more

What a great find! After watching a program that featured the chef/owner/5 time cancer survivor of this gastropub, I decided to check this place out. It is hard to find initially, as it is set back in the Target parking lot and the maps app sent me on a goose chase. But don't give up, it will be worth your perseverance. The food is a celebration of creative cooking. And there is the best selection of nj craft brews that I have ever seen. Appetizers are amazing....try the spicy salmon. I had the paragon burger and my daughter had the wedge salad with salmon. Her bf had the strip steak and everyone loved their selections. The waiter, Matt made sure we had everything we needed and was honest about our selections. The coffee and dessert were out of this world too. The dining room is comfortable and not stuffy, the place does not take it self too seriously. Prices are average. I hope to come back soon or even try Chef leVine's other location in Morristown. Good job ! read more

I went here last night and the food was great and I will definitely be back. The restaurant is a bit noisy so it is not the place to go if you want a quiet evening. My only complaint is that the person who was bussing tables needs to be better trained. He cleared dishes from the table before everyone had finished and while holding dirty dishes from another table. That being said, it is a nice restaurant with a fun atmosphere. read more

This is by far my favorite spot in this area. We come here as often as we can. Chef Eric has created an amazing menu with an unique style and twist. I have had many items on their menu, including seasonal specials. My favorites are the wings (sevendust dry rub or Buffalo sauce), ginger pork sticks appetizer, Bacon Eater burger, short rib entrée or Tripoletta Pork Sandwich (!) made with pork loin, pulled pork and chorizo. You cannot go wrong with any of these. To match the food, they have an amazing beer list that rotates daily. The selection features a mix of local and hard to find craft beers. They offer flights for $12 as well as growler fills of select items on tap. The service is always on point with attentive and knowledgeable staff who can answer any question about the food or the booze. On multiple occasions Chef Eric has come to our table to inquire about our dining experience. This is such a rarity to have a chef/owner in the casual restaurant scene be this passionate about his craft. The effort really shows in the product. read more

Paragon is a newer addition to Clark, and tucked away in a shopping plaza you wouldn't know it was there unless told so.. When you first walk in you can see the dining and bar area are separated by a wall, which is nice if you rather have a quiet dinner.. The decor is trendy, a nice overall ambience for young professionals in the area.. The drinks are really great, as is the selection.. I love that they have so many wines to order by the glass, as many places do not.. The beer selection is insanely long.. Martinis were tasty, but I'm not a flavored martini kind of gal and found them a bit too sweet for my liking.. I wanted to give this place 5 stars are love it, but after coming here twice and not being blown away by the food, I will leave it with four.. The wings were good, the ghost pepper wings are insanely spicy, I can understand why they explain that to you prior to placing an order.. The fish tacos, which the chef recommended to me after telling him I don't eat much meat, were rather disappointing.. They were not the best fish tacos I've eaten, rather mediocre.. The calamari app with cherry peppers was awesome and I would definitely get that again.. My friend has a burger and said it was good, but nothing to write home about.. This is a great place to meet up with a few friends for drinks and apps, not a date night type of place, and not somewhere you to if you want excellent cuisine.. The Thursday endless happy hour is great and I would go back for that, for sure.. But if I was hungry, I don't see myself craving paragon's food.. read more

I wish I could rate this place higher, but unfortunately it's just not possible. The only positive about our experience was our waitress. She was knowledgeable and kind and spent a lot of time with us. She would have gotten a 20% if they didn't automatically add 22% gratuity on a table of 5. What is that????!!! The food was subpar at best. One person at our table didn't even eat their dinner because it wasn't good, but the waitress took that off the bill which was nice. The service was the best part of our experience until we found out they added 22% gratuity and didn't even put it anywhere visible on the menu. Will not be going back. read more

Tuesday night date night with hubby. Live in Westfield (great restaurants) but decide try a new spot for us - Paragon Tap & Table, Clark - short drive. We arrive @ 6:15 pm - wonderful weather, place not crowded (outside and inside) and we are directed to go inside, talk with hostess for seating - request outside, hostess says "pick any seats" We select a table (which 2 tables pushed together) at corner end - on 1 side: 2 people seated at a 4 person table and on another side: 4 people seated at a 4 person table who are getting a check - so appearing to be leaving, and along the middle of patio a entire row of empty 2 person tables. The hostess brings us menus and says the waiter will be out shortly. We wait @ 5 minutes, waiter comes over and says: " the bartender asked if you can move to a 2 person table? Do you mind?" I look around say this place is empty, it is Tuesday, you have 2 people sitting at a 4 person table and you have a 4 person table that is empty and a bunch of empty 2 person tables - Why are you asking? And Yes I mind? AWFUL SERVICE!!! EMPTY RESTAURANT Directing traffic - Why didn't the Hostess speaking up - she had 2 opportunities.....WILL NEVER RETURN We left and went to one of our favorite spots: Rosie's Wine Bar - GREAT SPOT in Garwood, NJ - Check out Rosie's read more

Had a delicious dinner (steak and egg mac and cheese was great) and awesome local beers the other evening. The food/beer was great, and so were the hostesses and the people bringing out our food. Our waitress acted like we were an inconvenience, which was a little rude, but the rest of the staff and the great food/beer made up for it. read more

Overall I like this place, some items (wings, pork lollipops, brisket sandwich) are amazing, while others (including the fries unfortunately) are strikingly average. This is one reason for 3 and not 4 stars. There are also a couple of service issues that could use some work, specifically the servers all seem to congregate in the front of the restaurant near the hostess stand, the bartenders aren't particularly friendly or chatty, and most of all THE BLACK LATEX GLOVES THE FOOD RUNNERS WEAR. Why do they need the gloves? It is so offputting. read more

My boss has been to this restaurant many times and she gives it high praise. I thought the restaurant was okay. My friend had the french onion soup for an appetizer and she thought it was delicious. I had the BBQ brisket and it was a little salty but good. One of my friends had the Soba noodles and she thought it was good. The other friend had the Chinatown salad and she did not like it because it had Brussel Sprouts and she does not like Brussel sprouts and it was not mentioned int the menu description.
