Great gym for recreational and team gymnastics. Supportive environment where gymnasts have fun, but also challenge themselves.

I'm going to be 57 years old soon, I am an avid runner and attended the gym faithfully four times per week, but I got to the point where I was just going through the motions. I knew I needed more, something different, and thanks so my son's encouragement to try Crossfit I've found it. Alicia and Brad, the owners at Crossfit Cut are wonderful, they get to know who you are and your personal goals so that they can encourage you to achieve them, and when you're ready to push beyond. You don't have to want to do it all or compete with others in the gym; it's all about the personal achievements you set for yourself and driving towards those goals. This weekend I'm competing in a Crossfit Challenge -- with 9 of my fellow gym members. I think you could say I'm hooked! I encourage everyone to try this gym; I know you won't be disappointed. CL

I had heard of Crossfit and saw all the videos of crazy athletes online and I knew that wasn't me. I also knew that I hated running and would get bored easily at a regular gym with eliptical and weight machines. I needed something new, so figured I would go to Crossfit one day, just to check it out, after all, it was free. Brad and Alicia had me do an intro session. They were extremely informative and seemed to understand when I needed encouragement and when I needed a breather. They teach and enforce proper safety, strategy, form and technique. They even taught me about proper nutrition and diet! Brad and Alicia are not only knowledgeable, but they are passionate at what they do. To this day, I'm not the fastest of the group and I'm certainly not the strongest, but I am 50 lbs lighter and much healthier than I was. I feel younger and am able to do things that I never thought I would be able to do again. Mission accomplished. Thank you Brad and Alicia!!

I had just enough stamina to make it from my desk to the closest vending machine and back. I was at my all time heaviest and needed a change, so I turned to Lauren Lauren's approach is gentle and encouraging. If you are looking for the kind of trainer who screams in your face and frightens you into compliance, look elsewhere. However, Lauren WILL challenge you. She WILL test your limits, but in a kind way. In my case, I would push myself extra because I didn't want to let her down. Lauren has her own studio. This is awesome because you don't have to worry about looking stupid in front of randos the way you would at a regular gym. I was able to really focus on exercising without feeling self conscious. The space is on the smallish side, but very well equipped, with everything needed for strength training, an exercise bike, treadmill, and a plethora of extras (balance board, bosu, stability balls, etc...) About 4 months after I initially started training, I was down 32 lbs and feeling good. My stamina and endurance had greatly improved. About 7 months after I started training, I was doing things in the gym that I thought I would never do--the kind of exercises that only "atheletes" could do. I also worked with Lauren throughout my ENTIRE pregnancy. She knew which exercises to modify and which to avoid. I was actually strength training with Lauren the very day my daughter was born. I truly believe that the training I had during my pregnancy helped me keep my strength and stamina up through labor and delivery. I don't get to train with her as much these days since I moved away from the area. However, she does provide written copies of workouts, so I still use those. If you are looking to make a change for your health, I highly recommend giving Lauren a call.

Came here for a quick workout and sauna because it's the closest Y to the Wrentham Outlet Mall,…read morewhere I dropped off my friend for her shopping expedition. What amazed me: 1. The staff member working in the fitness area (moderately sized but very nice quality equipment and lots of natural light) was actually DOING SOMETHING, i.e. walking around and putting stuff back in their proper places! Never seen that at any other Y I've been to, where staff just stand around, fiddle with their phones, and generally just use up oxygen---unless they are personal trainers working with a paying client. Not only that, the guy actually noticed that I was new and came up to me, introduced himself and offered help if I ever needed any! Absolutely flabberghasting staff behavior for a YMCA, lol! If only every Y were like this. 2. The fairly new, spacious, and coed sauna next to the pool area (there are no longer single sex saunas in the locker rooms, I was told) was actually heated to a decent temperature (190F according to the thermometer hanging on the wall at chest level) AND had two levels of seating so you could actually get a decent sweat on, as opposed to some Ys that for some boneheaded reason have only a single low bench which is completely useless because duh, heat RISES so why in the hell would you want to be sitting so low when it's already maxed out at some wimpy 150F? (Cough cough, Melrose and Framingham YMCAs.) The disadvantage of a poolside sauna though is that it's a pain to go back and forth back to the locker room shower for a cold rinse every 10-15 minutes, as opposed to a locker room sauna---but this is not a fatal flaw. 3. The treadmills were by a brand called Matrix I had never seen before and I got on one hoping that it wouldn't totally suck like the Precor treadmills---happily, it did not, though I was disappointed at how tiny the screens were after being spoiled by the huge 24" screens of the Life Fitness treadmills at my home Y in Cambridge. BUT it had one beautiful feature the big fancy LF treadmills lacked: a built in cooling fan at the top of the console, which was absolutely delightful! Wish this feature were standard on EVERY piece of gym cardio equipment, lol. Only a few minior gripes about this place: - Almost all the stationary bikes were the geriatric recumbent kind. No Keiser bikes, which are the only ones with decent ergonomics and that actually feel like you're pedaling a real bike. - Kettlebells are few and max out at 22kg, which is barely enough for one handed swings and presses, but much too light for loaded carries or two handed swings. - Oh and it'd be nice if they had some hanging boxing bags, or at least one. This is one of the things that sets the Cambridge Y apart: an abundance of free-hanging real boxing bags, not the useless water-base standing bags. This gym appears to have neither. Overall though, this is a very good Y and I will be sure to return next time I'm in the area!

Quite honestly, just turning into a dump. Makes me wonder if that is why they changed the name, weren't keeping up with Gold's franchise standards? The worst I've seen is you can't use one machine for 1-2 mins. Very good classes/instructors. They have recently added a bunch of the Les Mills classes (Bodycombat, bodypump) The only knock I have is the evening classes start at 6:30. I'd like them earlier or later. I like price is right for what you get. It isn't the low cost option but if you want to take classes it is a great place and a good value. The place is a typical suburban gym a mix of meatheads, highschooler, mothers, retirees, and middle aged parents. No one group dominate the place. You can see yourself when you go here. The one negative is the men's bathroom. While not the worst gym I've seen, it could use more frequent cleanings and more ventilation.
