Loved trying out the coffee buns and iced espresso drink at Papparoti. I tried their signature coffee bun which was crisp and sweet on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I liked the lightness of the bun and could've eaten more than one. The iced espresso was also very good. I'm not usually a coffee drinker but I enjoyed this as it wasn't too bitter or too sweet, it had a good balance of everything! Extra points for adding a chocolate cookie stick in the drink! read more

Came by for one of their signature buns after hearing my friends raving about it. Parking is available on the side streets. Robson, not so much. The inside is classy and upscale. The entire building is new, so this is a given. Nice pale wood and metal decor. Staff are friendly and casual. No complaints there. $3.50 for a single signature bun!? Yikes. And that's just for the bun. No toppings. Things like jam, sauces, fresh fruit, or ice cream are another $1.25 each. The buns look large, but the inside is one giant air pocket. I could probably squish it into a ball with my hands and eat it in one bite. There's a nice coffee and butter taste to the bread, but I have trouble justifying the cost. With that said, the coffee looks more reasonable at $2-4, but I didn't try. The food quality is good, and this place would be good for a date, but unless one has deep pockets, this may not be the most prudent venue for a daily coffee. read more

3.5 stars I have mixed feelings about pappa roti since I am Asian and I'm used to the whole sweet/fluffy/light/crispy category of buns. My friend whom had never tried Asian buns before was mind blown at how tasty they were but honestly l, they weren't too special to me other than the fact that they were fresh out of the oven. I have yet to try their special flavours and next time I go to downtown I may give the ice cream one a shot! The cafe itself is very quaint and welcoming. My friend introduced me to this place. I had no idea what to expect and didn't even know this place was here. The buns are huge and intimidating, but they end up being super light and fluffy somehow. The Crazy for Kaya one is fantastic, especially because kaya is not very popular in Vancouver yet. It's a coconut jam that is widely used in Malaysia's cafes, and my favorite type of jam. I often buy it in cans exported from Malaysia and spread it on toast. Sooo good. This is the first time seeing it used in a dessert and it did not disappoint. If you have not had kaya before, you should order the Crazy For Kaya and try it! You can thank me later. read more

I wasn't sure if I was able to try this place out on our vacation because we didn't have time, but since we happened to run into the place on our walk to Stanley Park, it was a must! Ordered the classic bun and the boyfriend got the rise and shine. Their buns are their signature items on them menu amongst their teas/coffees. There were also other sandwiches and small breakfast pastries available. I must say: their breads are to die for!! Crispy and crunchy sweet crust with a super soft inside. I was in love with their buns and the additions to whichever you ordered. I also ordered an iced Matcha latte which I did enjoy all. It wasn't super sweet like which other places would add on the sugar. It had a nice strong Matcha flavor! Came here for there famous roti bread it was so light and fluffy with a hint of caramel flavour. I picked up a pack of 4 for my sister since we don't have it back home. Call in advance if you want there specialty roti buns because they didn't have any till after 6-7 pm when we came in the morning. The coffee shop has lots of seating and a nice atmosphere to chill and have a bun and coffee with friends. I definitely will come back and try there specialty buns with coffee. read more

Walking by on a sunny day, I decided to drop in and check out the buzz surrounding PappaRoti Cafe. I don't quite remember what was in this space before PappaRoti Cafe, but I'm pretty sure it didn't look as snazzy as it does now. Clean design that combines modern and classic, the Robson PappaRoti Cafe manages to look fantastic without adopting the popular hipster-style decor They have a couple of ovens up in the front to pop out some fresh Roti. I think they make the majority of them in the back. Having some ovens out in the front really permeates the entire store with that nice decadent fresh PappaRoti coffee bun aroma! PappaRoti serves one classic bun and, for an additional price, you can choose your own toppings or go with a pre-established combo. What good is a coffee bun without coffee? PappaRoti serves up three different blends of coffee sourced by Vancouver's own JJ Bean coffee roasters. The coffee bun is exactly as described on their website - a perfect mix of salty and sweet. Crispy on the outside and deliciously fluffy on the inside. It is so crispy and light on the outer layer. The saltiness is there but just to enhance the fluffy, sweet bun to follow. The price is really where it disappoints. For an Original Bun, it costs $3.65. For a Banana + Nutella Bun Combo, it costs $4.90. I like big buns and I cannot lie.... I am ADDICTED to PappaRoti's BUNS! It was love at first sight but it was obsession over first bite. The caramel coffee crusted bun it big, round and so delicate inside that it'll collapse when you cut it. But that will lead your knife into the salted buttery bottom. All of those lovely flavours melt into your mouth with each delicious chew. Even in its own, it's a heavenly puff of goodness. However, it take this experience to the max, you can chose from popular combinations ($5.50) like Nutella & Banana or Kaya & Honey or PB & J. Otherwise, you can choose your own toppings ($1.25/each) like jams, sauces, or fresh fruit! I chose fresh strawberries, dark chocolate sauce, ice cream (average vanilla ice cream but it was such a dessert delight with the other toppings) and rose jam. ROSE JAM, mi amor! The sweet jam had a strong and intoxicating taste of rose. It was so unique and delicious with the bun. As soon as I tasted it, I turned around and searched throughout the café to see if there were jars of it on sale... sadly no, but now I'm on the radar for rose jam! The reason for minus one star? Because the café was packed packed packed. There's a few small tables, a communal table in the center and a small seating area at the back, but I almost felt like a vulture, waiting for the laptop people to finish with their work to snatch up their table. Overall, service was really nice and they were quick to see if tables needed to be cleared, probably because the seating situation was at over capacity. In the end, I know I will be back for more of this delicate and special taste of yumminess. Also, I am very interested in their signature Karak Tea, which is a blend of indian spices mixed with condensed milk, cardamon and fresh ginger. I wasn't expecting too much as it just looks like a boring-ish bun, but i was wrong to underestimate it. Delicately crisp outer and soft, warm with caramelized sugar and butter on the inside-yum! Got the version with a sweet whipped cream cheese and jam called Rise and Shine. The karak tea reminds me of chai with its strong notes of cardamom and ginger..it's not too sweet, just right. We went in on a Monday night. We called ahead bc last time we attempted to eat here there, there were no buns...ridiculous really it's like Starbucks saying they are out of coffee. We ordered and the banana came out with what looked like a hair. When I presented this to the rude counter staff she argued with me after picking whatever fiber off the banana with her bare hands!!! My KTB posted here on Instagram and I always wondered where it was she posted from. When I finally came here on recommendation by my brother, I was happy to have figured out KTB's secret place for these lovely buns. Not only did we get the buns I got a mushroom soup, that was hearty, but not quite hot enough. I have a feeling that the cream in the mushroom soup didn't do very well for my tummy which made me wonder how often people have soup here and how old was the soup. I got a bit of a stomach ache and ended up visiting the facilities often afterwards. So for the soup review, I'd give it a 1 star. My picture does look nice. Had the soup been fresh, I'm sure I would've been able to give higher marks. But the buns were a five star! I'd love to come back again, but have to limit my carbs. Still if you're not counting calories and carbs, then you'll enjoy these famous buns. read more

**Update: The boyfriend went back the next morning. So good! Been waiting for this place to open for a few months. Finally saw it open and had to stop in. Came in with the boyfriend, didn't even look at the menu for more than 2 seconds before ordering one original bun to go. The guy said 'is this your first one?' To which I replied, yep! Coffee caramel buns?! I was intrigued. On their grand opening weekend I was able to try one. Straight out of the oven, this is how I like my pastries. Warm and soft. It almost looks like a 'Mexico bun' from a Chinese bakery, but trust me, this is far better. The whole top had a light crispy layer, with a hint of coffee flavour, which wasn't too overpowering. The bun itself was soft, and to my surprise, my last bite had a small dallop of butter within. Yes, butter. Best way to finish off an already delicious bun. My fiancé had the Nutella roti and I was surprised they charged so much more for a drizzle and tablespoon of Nutella. Being a Malaysian like myself, you can only imagine my anticipation and excitement when my party of 3 and I stumbled upon PappaRoti in Vancouver. PappaRoti was beautiful founded in a small domestic Malaysian kitchen by a mothers' intuition of crafting the perfect "Roti" (bread bun). In my younger days, Roti was the perfect staple of snack time! Growing up, I've delightfully purchased these buns for a mere RM 1.50! Needless to say, my anticipation for PappaRoti to sweep me off my feet were expected to be monumental. The space inside PappaRoti is quite homey with a flair of modern-hipster look. There were several very cute string lights draped over the windows and along the walls. Customer service was superb as well; they were patient and quick to assist! It wasn't long until our warm toasty Roti finally made way onto our table. I ordered the Roti with a side of Kaya and Maple syrup. PappaRoti also has other pairings that deliciously compliment the buns like ice cream, Nutella, etc. The Kaya and Maple were both wonderful additions to the Roti bun. Kaya, also originally from Malaysia, is sweet coconut jam. The bun had the perfect consistency in outer coffee crust crisp with a soft, buttery center. It was definitely nostalgic and hit a soft spot for me during a reminisce of my childhood in Malaysia. I highly recommend making a stop here if you're ever in the area or have never had the pleasure of indulging in the deliciousness of a Coffee Roti Bun. You won't regret it for a second! read more

This is our "go to" coffee and pastries shop when we visit Vancouver. There is nothing better than a nice cup of java accompanied by the tastiest pastry ever! We just discovered that they have a frequent visitor card where you can earn points for your purchases. Tip: the points are accumulated not by dollars spent, but by transactions. We learned this only "after" we spent about $30 in one transaction. Better to ring up individual purchases to rack up the points. My favorite is the strawberry and cream, although the banana and Nutella is a close 2nd. If you work nearby, they have a $5 special which includes a cup of coffee and a plain papparotti. This is M-F 8:00am - 10:00am. This is also the best time to visit as it tends to be a bit quieter than the evenings. read more

The buns are so tasty; they're sweet and golden and crusty in an irresistible way. The space is cute with lots of windows to sit near. This place basically just sells buns. The original famous coffee bun. It's a limited menu with just buns on it. But.... it's the most beautiful rounded shaped bun that tastes heavenly. The buns are twice baked and it is soooo llight and crispy on the outside, but soft like pillows inside. The buns are very lightly coated with caramel. I had the original coffee bun with a side of apricot topping and coffee. I ordered one, but in the end, couldn't resist ordering another :) They have a selection of local jams that you can have with your buns, and other sides such as nutella, maple syrup, dark chocolate, cream cheese a few others It's a bit on the pricier side, but it's not a bad treat to have now and then. read more

I was excited about Papa Roti because I really liked them when I was in Australia. But like other people have commented already, it's over priced especially when I compare with the aussie ones. Australia's known for their expensive cost, yet it was 2.50 per bun including tax (which is still cheaper than here, surprisingly). The cafe does have nicer interior design and effort to make it but I don't know if I want to pay the price to go. But for first timers, I would say try one with maple syrup or ice cream. Yes, it's true. Pappa Roti is KING of all buns. We actually got a four pack and took it with us back to the states. It didn't even make it to Seattle because I ate it while the hubby slept. My overall expensive here would be a 3.5 star. On our brief 3-day weekend here, we visited here twice, both on our way to Stanley Park. It's rather expensive, $3.50, but apparently it's "the father of all buns", whatever that means. It's crunchy and sweet on the top and soft and salty from the butter sauce on the core. The Karak tea, was explained to me as a Malaysian black tea with ginger and cardamom. I'm not a big fan of ginger so I was hesitant to try, but the tea was surprisingly refreshing, with almost no taste of ginger and a stronger flavor of cardamom and even stronger tea flavor (5 stars). I had the classic roti (which is the Malaysian word for bread) and a cup of coffee. Man, the savouring the bun on a rainy Saturday afternoon is pure heaven! The bun has a nice crust on the outside, with a buttery and soft texture in the inside. The atmosphere in here is very inviting as well. There's a huge table in the middle, surrounded by several smaller tables. All in all, Pappa roti definitely gets my vote. Total cost for a bun and medium coffee was $5.99. I just have this bad habit of comparing the prices with those back home, where it's a buck a bun. So if you have yet to give this place a go, I would whole wholeheartedly recommend it. read more
