As a seafood lover, I was excited to come back here for lunch after not visiting in a while. The catfish with the red beans and rice is an absolute must-have perfectly cooked and full of flavor! The rainbow trout, however, didn't quite hit the mark for me. Trout is a delicious fish, but this one needed a little more seasoning... "cue my inner Chef Ramsay". The atmosphere was fun and unique; it honestly felt like dining on a cruise ship! The aesthetic is cute, although it does feel a little dated in some areas. The Pappas know how to do seafood. We started with a loaf of bread fresh from the oven. The baguette was crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. I then ordered the small lobster. I had fun getting into that! They bring out lobster butter and keep it warm using a votive and holder. My date had the red fish. It looked fantastic. The butternut squash was the best vegetable I've ever eaten. It was tender and buttery. The portions here are hefty. You get more than your moneys worth. Wow, my mouth is still watering after a late lunch. Pappadeauxs has been a special place in my heart and I guess my stomach as well. First time I went was with my new husband and my parents. My parents live in Hurst Texas and my husband and I lived in Hawaii. We had come to visit my family and have my new husband meet my parents. They didn't come to our wedding as we had decided to save money, and help my big extended family from spending their savings on a trip to a Hawaiian wedding. Instead we had a simple wedding and so we flew to Texas for a celebration. My parents liked to host a lot of family get together, events like birthdays, anniversaries, and moving into town. They would often celebrate their own wedding anniversary at places like Pappadeauxs. So jump ahead 33 years for my husband and myself and 62 years between my parents I'm in town after buying a house to move closer to my aging mother, two sisters still living, a handful of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and all the extra adoptive strays that have joined the family. I'm trying desperately to keep things on the down-low, not wanting my family to know I have finally bought a home and by Christmas will be the newest resident of Hurst. I just had to stop in for a meal before heading home to start the packing. I love all seafood and oysters included. I was going to order half a dozen raw, but my server talked up the new Parmesan crusted cooked oyster and I was battling my growing hunger so I ordered both. The raw comes with three dipping sauces but I'm a big fan of old school horseradish and cocktail sauce. The shucker got carried away and I ended up with a couple of extras, no complaints. The oysters were big fat juicy ones so a few extras were ok with me. The Parmesan crusted were same size, big and fat, the crusted cheese was a delightful bite especially with garlic bread my server had also told me about and I had upgraded. Soaking up the juices with that toasted garlic bread just was a great start to my meal. On the cocktail menu I spotted a guava banana Mia Ti that I just had to order. It was early afternoon and I was delighted with the bump in alcohol. It came with two slices of dehydrated banana's that was eagerly trying to soak up the guava and alcohol they floated in. I ordered the wild caught red snapper white fish, one of my favorite fishes, served grilled with lumps of jumbo crab in butter, lemon juice, spinach and thinly toasted almonds. It was cooked absolutely perfect, just melted in the mouth, not mushy but flaky and the lemon and butter flavors soaking each bite, thinking about is still making my mouth water! I had a wonderful meal, filled with many memories while making new ones. This past year has been hard, I lost my husband almost a year ago then going back and forth trying to decide if I wanted to sell my home that I had spent many a good times with my beloved husband. Decisions finally made, I can now look forward to making new ones with all the family I still have living. In Texas on business and stopped by with a colleague to try this spot out. Not the biggest seafood fan, so I ended up going with a medium rare Filet Mignon Oscar and it was a good choice! Terrible Service Part 1 Yesterday evening I walked into the Pappadaeux's restaurant on Airport Fwy in Bedford & told the hostess' I needed a table for 2. There were 3 couples & a party of 4 or 5 in front of us waiting to be seated. We were told there would be a 15-20 min wait for a table, as expected. 5 mins into our wait I decided to go to the men's room. As I walked back through the main dining area I couldn't help but notice the 4 clean, set but empty tables & a booth. Another 10 mins went by & the party of 4 or 5 was seated, as were one of the 3 couples in front of us. A short later, one of the two remaining couples that were waiting for a table in front us decided to leave, citing their frustration with having to wait despite a reservation, w/there being empty tables & an empty booth. Another 5-8 mins went by, I stepped up to the hostess' podium & politely asked if there was a reason the couple next to us, & my wife & I couldn't be seated at either of the 3 empty tables or the empty booth. She gave an incoherent answer so I politely asked to speak w/the manager. 5 mins or so later the manager comes over, I introduce myself, shake his hand & politely asked if there was a reason they had 2 couples waiting to be seated with 3 clean empty tables & a booth. He didn't offer a reason & instead told me we would be seated shortly. Since he don't answer the question, I asked again, & again I couldn't get a straight answer other than we would be seated shortly. The hostess decided to interject with an explanation that the other parties in front of me had reservations, which made absolutely no sense as the party of 4 and the other couple had been seated after waiting 20-25 mins according to them. I further explained people w/reservations don't wait 20-25 mins to be seated like the parties in front of me did, when there are EMPTY TABLES/BOOTHS in the main dining area. I went on to point out they already lost $150-$200 w/the couple that had a reservation and just decided to just walk out b/c they grew tired of waiting & were now on the verge of losing another $150-$200, as my wife & I weren't going to be insulted w/whatever nonsensical reason the manager & his staff were attempting to provide for not seating people, despite there being 3 empty tables & a booth in the main dining area. And before anyone says, they may not have had waiters to serve those tables. Wrong... the empty tables & booth in the main dining area were being bussed & cleaned as I walked in. That tells me staffing wasn't a problem. Additionally, we could all clearly see 3-4 waters and/or waitresses standing around the other podium at the end of the bar, looking like they needed something to do. So again, staffing clearly wasn't the problem. Nonetheless, I informed the manager we were leaving, thanked him for his time & patted the young man on the arm/shoulder and walked away. To my surprise he began shouting "Don't put your hands on me! Don't touch me! Don't put your hands on me!" as if to suggest I'd just assaulted him or something (and the Oscar goes to???) I looked at him, asked if he was serious & simply continued to walk out. Admittedly, serving 4 tours and almost 3 decades on the Army, I have definitely learned how to "put my hands on someone", but this clearly was not one of those instances. Laughing out loud, my wife and I simply chalked his outburst up to immaturity, & a poor example of leadership on his part, especially when you consider I just "touched him" and/or "put my hands on him" when we shook hands. SMH I digress. PRO TIP: If a customer asks to speak with you, clearly there is a problem & at that moment your job is to solve that problem. Not try to baffle the customer with bull$#it in an attempt to save face, or in this case, put your ego first & attempt to back the customer down... wrong. Just fix it. How about, "You know what Sir? You're right. Let me have my hostess seat the couple in front of you right now, and I'll seat you myself, right over here"... or something to that effect. Problem solved. And you still have 2 empty tables and/or a booth for all those "reservations" your hostess was telling us about. Part 2 coming up... read more

I was so excited to try this place that a friend recommended. We got there around noon on Sat, Aug 15. Right from the start, we should have left. When we walked in, there were 3 people at the counter and it was a while before they acknowledged us. It was empty so it wasn't like they were busy. It was almost like please can we get a table. Then, we got seated in a booth which was too crowded for 5 people. It just kept getting worse. I wanted to order one of the pasta dishes but asked if they could make it without the cream sauce. Right away, the waitress was not willing to find out so I gave up and just ordered a salad. The next time she came to the table, I asked for a refill. As she turned around , she literally rolled her eyes. Kinda hilarious but now my meal was ruined. Finally the not so friendly hostess shows up. Didn't even greet me. I asked for a table for one. She told me it would be a 1 hour and 10 minute wait. Really poor attitude for the first person that a customer interacts with. For me, she was also the last person. I could easily see 10 to 15 empty tables. These tables were clean, bussed, and ready to go. I told her no thank you. She never said another word. I drove to another restaurant. I was seated immediately. I ordered. I ate. I drove home. I fed the dog, and it still had not been one hour and ten minutes. I don't know what the problem was. Stopped by Pappadeaux's for a business dinner. When you arrive there is plenty of parking in the back of the restaurant if the front lot is full. When we walked up to the front, I was definitely getting New Orleans vibes from this restaurant. We then were seated and a loaf of French bread was brought to the table. By far, the French bread was my favorite part of the meal. We also ordered the Crab & Spinach dip as an appetizer and it was excellent and it came with plenty of crab. Additionally, I order the Pasta Mardi Gras (Linguine, crawfish, andouille sausage & cremini mushrooms in a marinara cream sauce with grilled shrimp) which was good, but had a pretty overpowering vodka/Tomato sauce. Lastly, we ordered the Vanilla Cheesecake with fresh strawberries. The waiter comped our dessert since my upcoming wedding date is the same date as his birthday. After a long day at work I came to Pappadeaux for their delicious seafood cob salad. I ordered the crab spinach dip for an appetizer. The creamy dip with a crunchy toast is so good. The life's a peach cocktail was perfect for me. Sweet and light and chilled. You can't go wrong with the seafood salad with the Greek vinaigrette is the best choice for salad dressing. UPDATE - After a very bad experience last summer I finally decided to give Pappadeaux's another try. I visited on 1/25/25 and opted to place a to-go order at the bar. 5 STARS for HAYLEY, 1 star for Bryan Hayley (the bartender) was very friendly, professional and made me feel like a welcomed guest. Because I was taking a break from working, I ordered an Iced Tea while I waited for my order. I ordered the Shrimp & Grits (only on their lunch menu now) and the shrimp & crawfish fondoo (too salty for me. I took a couple of bites but ended up throwing it out). I had forgotten that I had a birthday dessert reward and asked if it would be okay to add it to my to-go order. Hayley wished me a happy birthday, and after deciding on the cheesecake, she said I would be able to get it to go as well. A few minutes after the order was placed, I noticed a server bringing me the cheesecake on a plate. Hayley intercepted him (Bryan) and let him know that I needed it to go (per the ticket she submitted) and asked if he could put it in a takeout box. He gave Hayley a disgusted look. Then I heard him say this - "She's supposed to have the dessert in the restaurant. I won't put it in a box but I'll bring her one." We returned today after our visit three days ago to try the Texas Redfish Pontchartrain that we had to cancel on Fat Tuesday when we discovered how large the Shrimp and Crawfish Fondeaux we shared was. But my wife noted on the menu today a fresh, wild caught seared grouper with grilled shrimp and lump crab dish. So we changed horses and went with this to share. The dish arrived halved and beautifully plated by the kitchen... no split plate charge! The fish was accompanied by a generous portion (on each plate) of petite carrots. Carrots?? Seriously? Really? Oh yeah, baby! LOL. You cannot even begin to imagine how over the top delish these carrots are. They're sautéed in a sweet, buttery glaze along with pistachio nuts. No, really. I would be happy as a clam with a big bowl of these carrots for an entree! I cannot imagine how someone came up with doing carrots with pistachios but they deserve a James Beard Award or something. And that glaze... The fish was perfectly cooked and bathed in a lovely sauce. Each of our portions was topped with two grilled shrimp and a nice portion of sweet lump crab meat. I could barely finish my half of the dish, The house made bread is baguette size but like French bread with a super crispy crust and silky smooth crumb in the center. With this bread both our plates looked like they came straight from the dishwasher. LOL. Not a smidge of sauce from the fish or carrot sauce remained. Our wonderfully delightful and super efficient server, Kiera, mercilessly tempted us at the end of the meal by presenting this beautiful slice of some kind of cheesecake or Key Lime pie (I'm deaf) for our consideration. But we stood steadfast in the face of this great temptation and just ordered another glass of Pinot Grigio to share. That's a healthier choice, right? LOL. We're wondering why all the Pappadeauxs around here rate only a 3 1/2 star rating on Yelp. The food and the culture of the service personnel we have experienced are nothing but first class and five star. We've only been to Pappadeauxs three or four times over the last 20 or so years, until twice this week, but we've never been disappointed. I just love this location. My experience here has always been a good one. LOCATION: If you're staying at Hilton's Suites, its a minute away on Airport Freeway in Bedford. PARKING: They share a parking lot with other restaurants, I believe there's a chick-fil-a nearby too. It was easy to find a spot near the restaurant. SERVICE: My server on my last visit (November 2022) was amazing.... and handsome. He was very prompt, filled our waters and made sure we enjoyed our food. FOOD: I just love seafood... Wow! What a mouth watering introduction to Fort Worth, Texas. We walked into a packed Pappadeaux, the aroma of deliciousness filled the air. We were told the wait would be about 15 minutes, by the very pleasant hostess. We went back out to the waiting area which was just warm enough to keep us cozy while we waited. After being seated our waitress, Andrea, came over with the biggest most genuine smile and attitude I have experienced in... forever. She was warm, welcoming and very accommodating. She answered all our questions about the menu because we could not make up our minds; everything looked and sounded so delicious, we wanted to have it all. We were a party of 4; For our starter, we had the fried calamari with artichoke hearts, spicy marinara sauce and lemon aioli. If you love calamari as much as I do you will not be disappointed! This was just delightful. It was only up from there guys. My girls had the seafood platter, crawfish combination, and a catfish platter. We all tasted each other's meal and everything was outstanding BUT let me tell you about MY meal; I had the ginger glazed salmon. This consisted of seared shrimp, sweet ginger glaze, green beans, toasted almonds and white rice. Wait let me take a minute 'cause I feel a craving coming on... Everything was cooked to perfection. The salmon was cooked medium well and was so moist and juicy, the green beans were cooked just the way I like them, not too soft with just the right amount of crunch and the rice, woah! the amount of flavor in the rice was the best surprise. So I have been coming to this specific Pappadeaux's for 5 almost 6 years. Throughout those years things have been great! This location was where me and my family ate before I left to join the marine corps, any time I've come home to visit we've eaten here... this place has been a location of birthday hosting, family get together and gatherings, Christmas time frame dinners, the place that me and my Fiancée ate after our engagement. And tonight it was the place we came to celebrate our 7 year anniversary of being together since high-school before I leave on Tuesday June 17th back out to Camp Pendleton California. We expected to have a great night, our reservation was set for 7:45pm and we got there a bit early. After we sat down and got our waters, our waiter Juan did not come to take our orders until 8:23-25 which is about 30 minutes or so. Both my fiancé and I watched Juan host 4 tables... three with only 2 people and one with 6 people. We continuously watched Juan go back and forth to every table and to the back laughing and hanging out with other employees. We also watched the other waiters have more tables and move fluently between each one ensuring that they were well taken care of. My drink had not been filled for 10 minutes at one point. After we had our appetizers we waited for our food which came out relatively quickly in comparison to when we finished our appetizers. After dinner we waited for about 15 minutes until he came back and we ordered dessert. Dessert and food were great but we then waited a fair amount of time more for the check. Throughout our entire time of eating our dinner right beside us was a food platter sitting on a stand full of dishes with leftover food still on them, making both myself and fiancé a bit upset having to eat next to garbage the entire time. On top of that we had a second waiter (white guy with curly hair) approach us and ask if we needed anything because he noticed us looking around quite a bit (we were looking for our waiter). Other tables that Juan was working, the guests had to keep putting their hand up to call on Juan for service or refills or whatever else it may be. We also heard the table behind us that Juan was serving make comments about how long it was taking him and they used the sentence "he's making me want to crash out". We wanted to have a toast to ourselves over wine midway through dinner but felt that we would have to continue waiting for a longer time. We ended up leaving around 9:30 (business closed at 9:00pm) I 100% understand being busy and a bit overwhelmed, but with 4 tables and not a crazy amount of people nor during a rush; I feel the wait times were unnecessary. I'm not sure how long Juan has been working there or waiting tables but he had not a single understanding of reading our responses or self reflection on himself against his peers who had more to deal with. I've never once in my life left a review ANYWHERE but tonight I am just so disappointed and upset with a place I've been coming for years and feel apart of because of the memories! I do hope that this was just a one time deal. And if it is a failure on the managing staff I hope that Juan is trained a bit better on customer relations and interactions. We noticed one of the managers almost the entire time we were there sit in the corner booth and relax, talk to another employee, and crack jokes as the staff (Juan) struggled to maintain a very manageable group. read more
