I recently found out that Paper Source is not only a stationary and greeting card store, but offers fabulous arts & crafts workshops! Calligraphy? Creative journaling? Brush lettering? Sign me up! A group of five of us (three girls, two guys!) took a private lesson for card-making just in time for Valentine's Day. We learned the art of embossing which had always intrigued me before and were able to make two cards and a postcard each. Our instructor assisted us the full time even showing us how small touches can provide a big difference - who ever even thought of lining the inside of the envelope with a floral design? They provided us with all the tools and supplies from the glitter for embossing to the tape (though they need more animal stamps, please!). I love buying all kinds of paper primarily for collages and other creative ideas, and this is one of my absolute favorite places to come to. The wrapping paper is beautiful, and perfect for wrapping that special gift. However, I think it is way to pretty to tear up, so I use it on canvasses, and as backgrounds for vision boards and other projects. The paper is worth the price, because it is high quality, some of which are cloth like in material. They offer a large variety of stationary in countless colors along with cards, and gifts...perfect to treat yourself, or to give to someone else. They also offer DIY craft workshops and tutorials. The ladies working here told me they recently hosted a birthday party in the shop for a little girl and her friends, in which they did crafts. Knowing this, I'd say this is a great place to have a birthday party (best for ages 7 and up). I've been here several times, and the ladies who work here are always very nice, engaging, and helpful. They are always welcoming, and insightful, and clearly enjoy what they do. The store atmosphere is friendly, and bright, with lots of specialty items to engage your senses, and give your hand a spending itch. I'm a regular at the Marina store so when I decided to stop by here yesterday for Valentine's Day, to put something on hold, I got a funky attitude from the other worker to put glasses on hold for the next day. Since I didn't trust them because the item was the last one for Valentine's Day and was super cute, I came back and bought the glasses. I'm not impressed by the service so I think I'll stick to the Marina location. The line here was long and the cashier took the person behind me before me and I think that's pretty rude. There are many fine papers to choose from with classy unique designs from modern graphics to palace ornate styles which are too good to be on paper but the paper quality here is top notch :) the staff was very helpful as I was paper choices challenged to say the least! FYI Don't come here looking for an inexpensive gift wrap option, they charge starting from $6 for the service and the paper and ribbon starts around $12.00 (they give you the option of keeping any leftover paper) I had a 7" x 2" jewelry box wrapped and it was about $22.00 all in. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS STORE! They have so many cute things for the holidays or just a novelty gift that your friends will love. This visit I bought the cute little hugging mugs And Valentine's cellophane bags. Everything for Valentine's Day is half off. They Have a cute paper puzzle called You complete me. After the puzzle is put together, you can write something on the back of the pieces of paper. I also bought a ton of v-day stuff at the Marina Del Rey store. They had the cute little face mugs in purple, pink or black. I also bought a heart face stickers and some washi tape. This location has a much better selection than the MDR store too. I am such a sucker for Paper Source. I needed a birthday card for my boyfriend and it was conveniently across the street from Barnes and Nobles and next to Sur La Table. Every item in the store is so adorably fricken cute and it allows you to live out your pinterest gift wrapping dreams. The only major con is that the items are several overpriced. It was about 5 dollars for most of their cards and they were such simple looking cards (not like the elaborate Papyrus ones). Bummer. I bought one anyway because I reallllly needed a card. I think I actually had a tear of happiness spring to my eye when I found out that a Paper Source was opening in Santa Monica. I used to live near one in San Francisco and it was one of my favorite places to get fun cards, wrapping paper and unique gifts. Since moving to LA, I've trekked over to the Beverly Hills location, but it wasn't too convenient for me and it seemed like a smaller store with slightly less selection. Although the stuff there isn't cheap, there are definitely things you can find without breaking the bank. For example, all of the Jonathan Adler office supplies are super cute and surprisingly affordable considering how expensive the stuff in his store usually is! Sometimes when I have a spare moment I go in there and just browse their beautiful birthday cards to stock up for when I'll need one. They always get used and people are always so impressed by their cards! Another hot tip I have for those decorating on a budget is to browse some of their fancy wrapping papers. I find that some of them are perfect for framing and look as nice as a much more expensive print or poster for about $7 each! Finally, I plan to come back here on a whole different mission once I start thinking about sending out wedding invites. I love love love Paper source. I used to go to the one in Alexandria when I lived in Virginia so I was happy to find there are several in the LA area. When I became the maid of honor for my friend's wedding, I had no idea that I would turn into a semi-bridezilla myself in my efforts to host the best bridal shower ever! Ordering invitations online weren't good enough for me, nope! I decided to go all-out and make my own. Unfortunately, I'm not always good at coming up with an idea, so I make a trip here to Paper Source to check out what they had. One of the ladies there helped me come up with an idea, and from there showed me all the things I might need to make the magic happen.. The hilarious part was that I ended up coming back a total of 4 times (yes, 4..) to either buy more stuff because I didn't get enough the first time, to return/exchange for invitations that could print successfully in my printer, and then because my original envelopes/other cards weren't the right shade of cream to match the new invitations. Anyway, everyone there was always super nice and patient, and returning things was a breeze, even on my 4th trip. I would definitely recommend this Paper Source as a great resource for making the perfect invitations. They have a TON of super cute cards too, and little craft project stuff. I randomly stumbled into this place one day looking for a card. It's an art & crafts/gift store that is definitely a little on the high end. That being said, they have funny and original cards that you won't find at your local CVS or Von's. And if you are into making your own cards, this is the place to go. I think they also offer classes if I read the sign correctly, which is pretty cool (more so for my girl friend than myself). Now I head to Paper Source every time I need a card and don't want to send something that might very well be sent by somebody else. I swing by all the time, but today I needed a crass birthday card and an unconventional coffee book. A cheerful young thing named Anum greeted me at the door, while the manager, Robert, and Christine took my inquiry and laid out the perfect card options. Then we took a gander at the booklet options. Feels a lot like an Anthropology themed cards/invitations/gift wrap type of store.... They also have plenty of craft kits, and photo albums to pick from too. Needless to say, my wife LOVED this place. There's plenty of little junk types of things that Urban Outfitters and Anthropology would have, but there are plenty of cool things to pick from too. Since buying everything in here can probably start to add up, you can probably get some ideas on crafts to work on with your kids, and then make your own versions.... For greeting cards, I go no other place but Paper Source! All the cards are fun... a mix of humor, craft arts, and creative design. The selection is reasonable: none too many, none too few. You can expect to spend anywhere from high 3s to low 6s for a single greeting card. The rest of the store is fairly cute and entertaining. I buy presents on occasion from the other sections. You've your mix of display tables with themed gifts and knick knacks as well as the small, neat rows of loose papers in the back. That paper section is great for bigger projects, especially since staff will definitely do a quick consultation. In terms of small paper or card projects, you'd be better off elsewhere for both variety and price. Sales are decent here. I should probably follow them more closely. Beware of store hours - they close at 7pm every day, I think. It's not the worst thing to arrive here though and find it closed... just head next door for some fun at Sur La Table or walk through the Promenade since you're right at its north entrance anyways. read more

I love the store in Pasadena, but this location disappointed me. I specifically stopped in for bookbinding materials and found them carelessly crammed into a corner of the store. Their book supplies are shop-worn, dusty and sad, even though it's a fairly new location. They carry things like x-acto knives for cutting paper... but not the refill blades for the knives they sell. The glue I bought was half dried out because of a tiny crack in the container that I didn't notice until getting it home. So if you're looking for a Papyrus-like nice greeting card, blank card and wrapping paper store, it's terrific. For paper crafts, it is not worth the parking hassles. It simply doesn't matter if the wrapping paper I buy has the grid lines on the back or not, I still wrap gifts like a first grader. Thank God for Paper Source where I can distract my intended recipient by the fantastic paper, and all sorts of fun decorations to make the package look all the more exciting. this is real a review I should have written a while back but I am just getting too. I have been to the store many times with my wife and have always had a good experience. the reason for this review is because the manager Dina provided a great customer service outcome for me. Having been part of a newly launched art-craft business at the time we were in need of paper for business cards as we were going to be showcasing at some great places where we really needed everything to be in line the the aesthetics of the brand we created. long story short the wrong paper had been purchased and printed on after some confusion between the store clerk and I...so we were in a tough spot because as a new operation we had very limited funds and a tight budget and we had just paid for printing on what was now the wrong paper. I went in person to explain the situation to Dina and how important the cards were for us as a new company about to do some really high volume showcases. She contacted someone from the corporate office to explain what had happened and to see what they could do to help. In the end Dina REALLY HELPED us out by giving us the paper we originally intended on getting and they paid for the cost to re-printing! as a new small business this was huge for us, thank you! read more

My fiance and I were relatively clueless as to what we needed for our wedding invitations when we walked into Paper Source. We met with a very nice woman who, at the time, seemed very thorough. After we ordered our invitations I was already thinking about my YELP review and how pleased I was with their service. It took about a week for our proof to be received and there were several misspellings (i.e. "protobello"). After sumbitting our final order it took over two weeks for us to receive our invitations. There was an entire card that was missing from the order (which had never been printed) so we needed to re-order the card and pay for the expideted shipping. Another 10 days and hundred-plus dollars later, I called the store to see if our invitation card had been delivered... it had, and the Paper Source customer service didn't think it was necessary to call and let us know it was ready to be picked up. Ultimately, I am happy with the product ordered but I plan to stay as far away from this store as possible, and think you should too. read more

This is a great stationary, gift wrap, accessory store in SM. The staff is always friendly, the displays always tidy, and the store always welcoming in its modest but spacious location.
