I was a fan of Kat and Emil's work long before I was engaged, so when I did get engaged, I already knew who to go to for our wedding invitations. Planning a wedding can be stressful for couples, but with Kat and Emil's easygoing personalities and professionalism, they made this part easy. The Paper Mint Press helped me print, gold foil, and address invitations for my wedding on January 6, 2018. Full disclosure: I know Kat and Emil from college, but I've loved their work! Though I designed my own invitations, I knew they could print reliably and would be great to work with! I reached out to Kat and sent over my files. I wanted to get gold foil done on all the script-y parts of my invite. Kat was super patient and explained the whole process of how to do gold-foiling and why the costs were why the cost of too much gold foiling could add up. She went the extra step and helped suggest ways I could stay within my budget--and so rather than gold-foiling all three parts of the invite, I only foiled the main one. My invites arrived perfectly packaged and ready for me to send off! They also helped with printing the addresses on the envelopes and made our address line look so fly on the back flap! Kat is fantastic. I really don't have a creative eye for these types of things, so I put all my trust in her. She did not disappoint! I actually did not even meet her once, as I live out of the area and all of our communication was via phone/email, and my invitations were mailed to me. At first I was kind of nervous not being able to see samples of the specific suite I wanted in person, but her professionalism, organization, and eagerness to work with me really put me at ease. Aside from the incredible invitations, of course, what I admire about Kat is her genuine love for what she does. I've seen her earlier letterpress work from 2011, which still amazes me, and it's been so neat "following" her and watching her evolve as a designer. My boyfriend has a thing for letterpress. He has letterpress business cards and has looked into taking a letterpress class in his spare time. While brainstorming ideas for an anniversary gift, I came up with a brilliant idea - a CUSTOM letterpress card, made just for him. After doing some research on how letterpress works, it became clear that a project like this wouldn't be an easy undertaking. Much of the cost of letterpress printing goes into making the plate (used to press the design onto the paper) and setting up the machine. I emailed and called several letterpress shops to get quotes for a single custom card, and quotes started at $250 - for A SINGLE GREETING CARD. The price didn't change much for larger quantities, but I didn't need 50 or 100 cards for this occasion. As much as I wanted it, I put the idea aside for a while in case some miracle could make it happen. Well... In this day and age where most people print their own invitations or choose from a mass market design, it's refreshing to see real art and talent go into designing a personalized invitation. When we first met with Kat to discuss ideas, my husband (!) and I talked about how we love music, as well as how we got engaged at the Coachella Valley Music Festival underneath a prominent piece of art that was on display. From there, Kat took off with the design and integrated the iconic Coachella landscape, the art piece, and our love of music. I had been in correspondence with a thermography printer for over a month, but with after countless emails back and forth it seemed we just didn't get each other, and I felt like I was making concession after concession. Our experience working with Kat has been wonderful. I found Paper Mint Press on one of the many wedding blogs I was frequenting and went on the website to check things out. My dream was to have letterpressed invitations, but I figured it was out of reach given our budget. I was so happy after visiting their website because not only are they very straightforward and clear about pricing, but the prices were also very reasonable and they have a bunch of options! I always felt weird about having to email people to ask what they charge, so I was very appreciative that the website had it all laid out. I emailed Kat, and she responded very quickly. We met a few days after that initial email. Our meeting was great! She provided lots of samples to look at and asked great questions about our vision. This is where I came to appreciate Kat the most - I knew what I wanted but lacked the vocabulary and creativity to describe it. We discussed both our Save the Dates and our invitations during that first meeting. She got back to us quickly with a proposal, so we knew going in what to expect. Our Save the Dates were digitally printed, which is a great option to offer! We are having a destination wedding, so we wanted the Save the Dates to convey that without being cliche or cheesy.
