I love the pizza here. I just moved to the neighborhood so the first order of business was to find my go-to Pizza place. After reading the reviews, I decided to try Papa Sammy's first and I'll probably just stick with them. I've had them twice and have only gotten pizza so far and both have been outstanding. I like to order it early in the day and have it uncut so I can throw on additional toppings later in the evening and reheat in the oven when I'm ready to chow down. This place has nice, crust with good crisp, awesome cheese and a nice tangy sauce with a little zip. I don't know if they have gluten free options or not, I don't see it anywhere on their website but according to Google AI, they do. I am on a mission to find the best pizza in the Charlotte area and Papa Sammy's has been on my list for a bit. I stopped by for pickup on Friday and it did not disappoint. Easy to find and has it's own parking lot which is always a plus. The pizza was dense but not greasy. I ordered a pepperoni/mushrooms pie, a white pie and garlic knots. The white pie was phenomenal - so much flavor and not overly heavy. Wasn't crazy about the garlic knots, but they did have a generous amount of oil and cheese which I love. Seriously so good!! This was our first time trying Papa Sammy's & we ordered through door dash. My family and I are from New Jersey so we don't play about our NY style pizza. Papa Sammy's did not disappoint! The pizza was delicious! The sauce was very flavorful and robust. Though it is thin crust pizza, there was just enough dough for a fluffy and tasty crust. The slice had just the right amount of char on the bottom and held up well for the perfect bite. Let's not forget the chicken wings! We asked for extra crispy wings and we received just that. It's been 4 years since I come here and I'm not sure if ownership has changed but the pizza wasn't up to par from what I remember. The crust was terrible and got hard immediately. The rest of the ingredients were fine, but the overall experience wasn't what I expected from my last visit 4 years ago. I'm not sure when this place opened or how I've never heard about it but dang it's so good!! So first it is a cute little pizza joint. They had a ton of games for the kids but not arcade games they had connect dots, cards, and a bunch of other little things the kids could play with. That helps a lot when you have littles. We ordered a large pizza, wings, garlic knots and 4 sodas. It was only $28 for all of that!! That's crazy to me! We usually at least drop 60-100 for dinner. This was my second time eating Papa Sammy's Pizza. The first time was MUCH better than this visit. When we walked in, we noticed the restaurant was pretty busy. We went to the cash register and placed our order with the "help" of an annoyed teen staff member. The place was pretty old and gross but what else do you expect from a local pizzeria. Regarding the wait time, it didn't impress. We waited an HOUR for a pizza and wings. When the food came, it was hot but lacking a lot of flavor. The sauce and cheese tasted pretty much like nothing. To add to this list of cons, the prices were very expensive. When I'm in the Mount Holly area, I think I'll stick to Marco's pizza. read more

Everyone should support this pizzeria! Papa took our order and we watched them make it! Their health score is 100 and I can see why. While waiting we saw their kids come to work and the respect and manners they have were fantastic! Now about the food!!! The pizza was so good and cooked so evenly. I have been to Papa Sammy's several times but didn't feel compelled to write a review until I had their Philly chicken sandwich last night. Boy was the sandwich good. Instead of the mundane sub, they use a good Ciabatta like bread which really made it stand out in my opinion. I also loved the melted provolone cheese. Their pizzas didn't blow me away but I didn't grow up eating pizza and don't share the sentiment that pizza is a major food group so what do I know. Papa Sammy's is a fantastic little blink-and-you'll-miss-it restaurant run by a family. You'll find checkerboards painted on some tables, giant UNO cards and decks of regular cards and all sorts of other amusements that will let you put your phone away and concentrate on your companions for a change. Of course, once the food arrives, all that will change. For an appetizer, try the fried ravioli and garlic knots drenched in delicious garlic butter. For pizza, the "meat pizza" is a carnivore's delight, and the crust is tender, but with a little crispness on the bottom and edges. My favorite thing on the menu, though, is the Philly cheesesteak. This is not the overstuffed monstrosity you get at a lot of places. There's just the right amount of tender beef and sauteed mushrooms, onions and peppers. The bread is out of this world, baked by Mama Sammy daily. It's got a perfectly golden crust with a tender middle that drinks up the goodness of the fillings. I crave it regularly. And if the chocolate cake or cupcakes are available, GET THEM. They've got a boiled chocolate frosting that your grandma might have made if you're lucky.
