Was craving pizzas and decided to try a place I hadn't yet. This brought me to Papa Luigi's. I ordered a 14" pepperoni and sausage with some extra cheese. I also ordered a Cookie Butter Banana Cream Pie. Yes, you read that right; heaven on a plate. And yes, you also read that right, it was most certainly heavenly. My tastebuds were singing hallelujah. Was the food worth it?! Absolutely not! This small slice of pie cost me $14!!! It was still delicious. Do I regret it? Yes! But I was doing a happy dance. Hands down, not worth it at all. Should you try it? Yes. But it's not worth it. So delicious though. Like for real. So good. The pizza and the pie were so yum. Not worth it. But definitely give it a try! Also, this was technically through DoorDash. I had no qualms with either. Will I come back/reorder? Yes. But it will not be worth it! But I'll hope it'll still be as delicious as this time. TBC...

Papa Luigi's Tiramisu: Papa Luigi's opened in 1982 by founder Sal Purpora. He's since passed running the business on to one of his sons, but they still use Sal's mom's Sicilian recipes. The restaurant has plenty of menu options, but I'm skipping to dessert. I'm told tiramisu translates to "pick me up" or "cheer me up" and it certainly did. Its origins are disputed to be from the Italian regions of Veneto or Friuli-Venezia Giulia. It is a coffee flavored dessert made with ladyfingers dipped in coffee or espresso, layered with a sweet, whipped mascarpone cream, and flavored with cocoa. As it is made with coffee there is caffeine in it, but it is a miniscule amount as typically only a half cup of coffee is used for an entire cake (and this is just one piece). I've never had a dessert with a texture quite like tiramisu. It's difficult to describe, but it is rather interesting. It has some cake-like properties to it, but it's "spongier" and there are the layers of whipped cream. I say spongy, but soggy might be more accurate as it's dipped in coffee/espresso. The whipped cream is my favorite part as it's sweet, rich, and pairs perfectly with the more bitter flavor of coffee. If you love coffee and dessert than tiramisu is a must try. Doughboy approved. Can't believe I haven't reviewed this place! This is our go to pizza place. The pepperoni pizza is my favorite. Not only is the pizza delicious but they also have great pasta dishes! The servings are quite large. Our family recently used them for catering our Christmas celebration for 18 people. I worked with Janet and she was great. We did the pizza party package which included garlic bread, salad, pizza and mostacholli pasta. If you pay with card, there is a service charge, so if you can, pay with cash.

I recently placed an online order and selected fresh mushrooms. Immediately after, I realized it mistakenly said canned mushrooms. I called within 30 seconds to correct the order, but the person on the phone said they couldn't change it because it was already made. There's no way it was prepared in just 30 seconds. We order from here regularly, spending $50-$100 every week during summer pool parties. It's disappointing to lose a customer due to such inflexibility. The timestamp shows I called less than 30 seconds after the order was confirmed. Are you seriously telling me you made the entire pizza in 25 seconds and couldn't make the adjustment?

Craving some pizza before I fly home, an easy drive close to the MKE airport. Sat at the bar, service was great and the atmosphere was really nice - a newer brick place and was pretty clean. I was a bit confused on the pizza choosing between original thin; thick; or hand tossed as it seemed like there wasn't much difference. Went hand tossed, and the bottom still had a nice texture without being too crispy. It's a no brainer to come back as the pizza was great

In A Nutshell: -Papa Luigi's was a god-send for a pre-carb up meal prior to my triathlon. -It was near the bike shop I rented a bike in Cudahy. -I really enjoyed this no-frills Italian restaurant that appears to have a rich history serving up delicious eats. -I sat down & ordered a delicious Angel Hair Garlic Chicken Pasta meal. -It came w/ two big pieces of buttery garlic bread too. - I really enjoyed the amount of food that I got, it really was tasty, the chicken was so tender & the flavor of the garlic sauce was amazing. -The thin angel hair noodles were piping hot & cooked al dente. Overall, the service here is also very good, I would definitely recommend grabbing some food here.

When you arrive, there is a bar with a seating area. There is also another seating area with a separate bar, which is where we sat. What I noticed first is that there are TVs set up throughout the restaurant playing Moonstruck, the 1987 movie with Cher and Nicolas Cage. It runs continuously, and I think without sound. I didn't have a direct line of sight, but I did notice it a few times throughout the evening. It's a quirky thing, and I like it. The inside is dimly lit, but bright enough to read menus and make out all the essentials. The lighting on the bars is a rich red, and it really sets off those areas. The walls are adorned with photos of iconic Italian female movie stars like Sophia Loren. I liked the classic vibe. The place was very loud. We were seated right away and settled in with waters, drinks, and menus. Our server did a nice job walking us through the menu details. It's mostly specialty pizzas, with a few appetizers, salads, and a couple of entrees. For drinks, there were a couple of Santino Sangrias, which were unique in that they included gin, a nice touch. There was also a Paper Plane Martini, which was very good too. I mentioned before that it was loud, and it was especially loud with a large group behind us. It got much better when they cleared out. I noticed that they have sound absorbing materials on some of the walls, which probably helps, just not enough. For dinner, we started off with a couple of Caesar salads. They were a good portion and easily shared by two. The dressing was fresh and the right amount. It was a great start to the meal. I would have liked to try the calamari, but nobody else was interested, maybe next time. There were three pizzas at the table, Margherita, Paisan, and a make your own with cheese, sausage, mushroom, and onion. I decided to be different and tried the Gigante Meatball Plate. The pizzas are Neapolitan, with bubbly, charred edges. All of them had excellent presentation and flavor. Neapolitans are not known for their sturdy centers, so you have to hold on tight to keep everything from sliding off. As expected, the meatball was very large. It's served with penne pasta, which was okay, though I would have preferred spaghetti. The sauce and cheese had good flavor. A solid entree, though not amazing. We were celebrating a birthday, so we saved room for a few shared desserts. We tried the flourless cake, tiramisu, and the chocolate hazelnut gelato. They were all good choices, satisfying, but again, not amazing. Lots to like about this place. Nice atmosphere, great service (thanks Tommy), and an excellent selection of pizzas. Would come back again, and this time order one of the specialty pizzas (Da Vinci).

The menu states a Chicago stuffed pizza and since I'm from Chicago I thought I would try it even though I'm a thin crust cracker fan tavern style pizza from Chicago. Most people people not from Chicago have this misconception that it's a thick crust and they are turned off and say it's pan pizza that has too much crust and I'm tired of correcting them. Yes it's cooked in a pan with a thin crust and high walls like a pie cooked upside down with the cheese and toppings on the bottom and topped with a thin crust or not but the pizza sauce/tomato purée on top. I ordered takeout with a friendly young woman and the restaurant was very nice as I walked around and probably the nicest in the area. My pizza was ready in about 30 minutes and it smelled amazing. I ordered a 12 in stuffed Chicago style pizza with sausage which could feed 4 regular people because it's packed with cheese and toppings/sauce like a pie vs a flat pizza. Halfway into two slices I was full with the meat sweats. The cheese pull was absolutely perfect just out of the oven. The sauce was tasty with a garlic flavor and not sweet which I prefer as an Italian American. The sausage was top quality with some zing. Overall as a chicogan who likes thin over stuffed pizza it was fuc%ing delicious. This is a really tasty pizza with quality ingredients so they hit this pizza out of the park today.

There's a world-class chef at the helm, but with any sort of air of being pretentious crowded out by video games, kitschy homey decor, and Midwest friendliness (and I'm not just talking about from the generous wine distributor, but his colleague also was very kind in making sure I had a good experience and welcoming me back soon). Despite the frigid temperatures, the place was very busy! Given that, we weren't able to be seated before our reservation time but that was fine, we hung out at the bar for a bit and the host grabbed us and guided us to our table with expert care. I do wish we didn't have the table closest to the door as there isn't a ton of places for folks to wait and they weren't always courteous about not leaving the door open for those of us already inside. But the window vantage point was nice, as was the birthday card signed by the staff (and I just realized that in our haste to hustle back the several blocks to our car, we forgot it at the table! We must seem so rude!). Ally was our server and she did the best she could with the general busyness at 715 on a Friday night. She did have some assistance with the food delivery by other staff, which I did appreciate as things took a while due to the aforementioned popularity of the restaurant. Food-wise, everything was very good overall but didn't quite stick the landing: - Clam chowder was creamy but a bit heavy on the parsley and not served with crackers. I really love that crunch of the oyster cracker with the cream of the soup. - Bolognese was a very generous portion and the short rib was excellent, but it needed just a little more sauce to keep everything moist. - The tiramisu was several layers and looked perfect, but while the marscapone was delicious, the booze flavor was way too strong for a teetotaler such as myself. Despite some opportunities, this was still a very wonderful meal!
