Last night we ate at Papa Luigi's for the first time. I've been meaning to go there for a while now and boy, am glad I did. F irst of all, there is a city lot in the rear with ample parking. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant opens at 4, and we got there around 4:30 and there were plenty of open tables but it really started to fill up fast.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We also saw that this place does tons of carry out (mostly pizzas). Service was really quick. We had a server named Autumn and she was excellent. I asked her if the pasta was freshly made in house and she said yes. Portions were huge, literally enough for three meals. I got the spaghetti and meatballs, and my friend got the chicken parmesan. Both dinners came with soup or salad and two pieces of garlic bread. Both were great choices. My meatballs (2) were humongous but my friends chicken parm looked delicious. I thought the prices were reasonable, especially considering the amount of food you get. It's one of my favorite places for a solid thin crust pizza. I always get it extra crispy. Beyond pizza I've tried different pasta dishes plus their breaded beef sandwich and everything was outstanding. Usually don't dine in but service is always quick and friendly. Was craving pizzas and decided to try a place I hadn't yet. This brought me to Papa Luigi's. I ordered a 14" pepperoni and sausage with some extra cheese. I also ordered a Cookie Butter Banana Cream Pie. Yes, you read that right; heaven on a plate. And yes, you also read that right, it was most certainly heavenly. My tastebuds were singing hallelujah. Was the food worth it?! Absolutely not! This small slice of pie cost me $14!!! It was still delicious. Do I regret it? Yes! But I was doing a happy dance. Hands down, not worth it at all. Should you try it? Yes. But it's not worth it. So delicious though. Like for real. So good. The pizza and the pie were so yum. Not worth it. But definitely give it a try! Papa Luigi's Tiramisu: Papa Luigi's opened in 1982 by founder Sal Purpora. He's since passed running the business on to one of his sons, but they still use Sal's mom's Sicilian recipes. The restaurant has plenty of menu options, but I'm skipping to dessert. I'm told tiramisu translates to "pick me up" or "cheer me up" and it certainly did. Its origins are disputed to be from the Italian regions of Veneto or Friuli-Venezia Giulia. It is a coffee flavored dessert made with ladyfingers dipped in coffee or espresso, layered with a sweet, whipped mascarpone cream, and flavored with cocoa. As it is made with coffee there is caffeine in it, but it is a miniscule amount as typically only a half cup of coffee is used for an entire cake (and this is just one piece). I've never had a dessert with a texture quite like tiramisu. It's difficult to describe, but it is rather interesting. It has some cake-like properties to it, but it's "spongier" and there are the layers of whipped cream. I say spongy, but soggy might be more accurate as it's dipped in coffee/espresso. The whipped cream is my favorite part as it's sweet, rich, and pairs perfectly with the more bitter flavor of coffee. If you love coffee and dessert than tiramisu is a must try. Doughboy approved. I recently placed an online order and selected fresh mushrooms. Immediately after, I realized it mistakenly said canned mushrooms. I called within 30 seconds to correct the order, but the person on the phone said they couldn't change it because it was already made. There's no way it was prepared in just 30 seconds. We order from here regularly, spending $50-$100 every week during summer pool parties. It's disappointing to lose a customer due to such inflexibility. Grabbed a 16" pepperoni and sausage with 12 Buffulo wings through DoorDash. The wings were surprisingly good as I typically don't like breaded wings. The sauce was very flavorful and the wings had plenty of sauce on them. The pizza was hand tossed and came with plenty of toppings. Although the pizza was round, it was cut square. Saw a recommendation for this place and we wanted a cozy and filling dinner that wouldn't break the bank. This absolutely delivered. The service was so good. Our server was so attentive and kind. She apologized that our soup and salad took a few minutes, but we were still eating our appetizer (the Eggplant and Cheesy bread ) so we didn't care. Food was so good! We had the delicious aforementioned appetizers and soup/salad, and then ordered Chicken Parm and the Lasagna Roll Dinner. A loyal customer no more. Ordered on the phone. Large pizza & 2 side salads. I order the same order about 2x month. On 1 occasion the salads were brown and wilted and the pizza which is supposed to be "thin crust" looked like a deep dish crust. Very disappointed. Today asked if I could get another dressing (small takeout cup) and was told rudely that I would be charged extra. Ashley the so called "manager" was very rude and condescending. I'm a pinch I'd maybe think about getting this pizza again, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get it. It's a cross between thin crust and hand toss. A little too thick to be considered thin crust. I was underwhelmed. The Mediterranean salad was OK as well. I asked for no olives and they were on the salad - at least they were whole and easy to take off. Service was great!
