Last night we ate at Papa Luigi's for the first time. I've been meaning to go there for a while now and boy, am glad I did. F irst of all, there is a city lot in the rear with ample parking. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant opens at 4, and we got there around 4:30 and there were plenty of open tables but it really started to fill up fast.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We also saw that this place does tons of carry out (mostly pizzas). Service was really quick. We had a server named Autumn and she was excellent. I asked her if the pasta was freshly made in house and she said yes. Portions were huge, literally enough for three meals. I got the spaghetti and meatballs, and my friend got the chicken parmesan. Both dinners came with soup or salad and two pieces of garlic bread. Both were great choices. My meatballs (2) were humongous but my friends chicken parm looked delicious. I thought the prices were reasonable, especially considering the amount of food you get. This restaurant is a solid 4 stars.

Service was very attentive and food was excellent. Had a pizza and those with me, pasta entrees. Cannolis were good too!

Was craving pizzas and decided to try a place I hadn't yet. This brought me to Papa Luigi's. I ordered a 14" pepperoni and sausage with some extra cheese. I also ordered a Cookie Butter Banana Cream Pie. Yes, you read that right; heaven on a plate. And yes, you also read that right, it was most certainly heavenly. My tastebuds were singing hallelujah. Was the food worth it?! Absolutely not! This small slice of pie cost me $14!!! It was still delicious. Do I regret it? Yes! But I was doing a happy dance. Hands down, not worth it at all. Should you try it? Yes. But it's not worth it. So delicious though. Like for real. So good. The pizza and the pie were so yum. Not worth it. But definitely give it a try! Also, this was technically through DoorDash. I had no qualms with either. Will I come back/reorder? Yes. But it will not be worth it! But I'll hope it'll still be as delicious as this time. TBC...

    Tiramisu

Papa Luigi's Tiramisu: Papa Luigi's opened in 1982 by founder Sal Purpora. He's since passed running the business on to one of his sons, but they still use Sal's mom's Sicilian recipes. The restaurant has plenty of menu options, but I'm skipping to dessert. I'm told tiramisu translates to "pick me up" or "cheer me up" and it certainly did. Its origins are disputed to be from the Italian regions of Veneto or Friuli-Venezia Giulia. It is a coffee flavored dessert made with ladyfingers dipped in coffee or espresso, layered with a sweet, whipped mascarpone cream, and flavored with cocoa. As it is made with coffee there is caffeine in it, but it is a miniscule amount as typically only a half cup of coffee is used for an entire cake (and this is just one piece). I've never had a dessert with a texture quite like tiramisu. It's difficult to describe, but it is rather interesting. It has some cake-like properties to it, but it's "spongier" and there are the layers of whipped cream. I say spongy, but soggy might be more accurate as it's dipped in coffee/espresso. The whipped cream is my favorite part as it's sweet, rich, and pairs perfectly with the more bitter flavor of coffee. If you love coffee and dessert than tiramisu is a must try. Doughboy approved. Can't believe I haven't reviewed this place! This is our go to pizza place. The pepperoni pizza is my favorite. Not only is the pizza delicious but they also have great pasta dishes! The servings are quite large. Our family recently used them for catering our Christmas celebration for 18 people. I worked with Janet and she was great. We did the pizza party package which included garlic bread, salad, pizza and mostacholli pasta. If you pay with card, there is a service charge, so if you can, pay with cash.

I thought it looked charming, a hold-over from an era not that far in the past, but generally gone. I looked forward to dining there, but it took a recent invitation from new friends to get me through the door. The only reservation we could get was for 4:30. Hmmmmm...OK, I figured we'd be the sole patrons at that time of day, but I was wrong. And that tells you one thing you need to know: Tenuta's is popular, and rightly so. Despite being generally more adventurous in my choices, I ordered the pesto. I judge every Italian place by its bruschetta (on the menu but not ordered) and its pesto, and Tenuta's passed my personal test with flying colors. The most pleasing things about the dish were the very generous amounts of tasty sauce on the pasta, chicken, and zucchini. The least pleasing was the pale orange of the very underripe cherry tomatoes included. Companions had the nightly special (gnocci with bacon and a gorgonzola sauce) and the Calabrese, a tantalizingly spicy dish. Everything was perfect. Desserts ordered were the tiramisu (a large portion) and butterscotch boudino, a dreamy cup of butterscotch pudding, homemade butterscotch sauce, whipped cream, and a bit of sea salt. Service was quick, professional, and friendly. The restaurant is small, but cozy and welcoming.

Most Italian restaurants in Milwaukee serve pasta swimming in sauce, burying the pasta's flavor. Sorella got it right. The service was friendly. We sat at the bar eating late and had fun. It was a beautiful night - there was no reason to have a tent, and the enclosed sides increased the noise level. Trattoria di Carlo(TDC): Just south of Milwaukee, TDC opened in Oak Creek, WI nearly 25 years ago…read morein 2002. Founder Carlo Pedone utilized his grandmother's recipes that she brought from Sicily. 2021 saw the restaurant close, but after a brief hiatus, it was revived by new owner Frank Carini in 2023. Carini still uses all of Carlo's original recipes. My experiences with the restaurant go all the way back to high school as my parents are fans of TDC's pizza. I'm going to get it right out there, I am not. Not as a teen, nor on second chances as an adult, which is why I'm reviewing their gourmet lasagna instead. Carlo's recipe fills the lasagna with ricotta cheese and tops it with a beef meat sauce. All of this is also smothered in mozzarella cheese. Two observations (not necessarily complaints), the first is that the lasagna was not as "tall" or stacked as what I typically experience, being flatter instead. Second, I thought it was interesting that a large amount of the toppings were not actually on the lasagna but instead trailed it. I know this does not sound appetizing, but it reminded me of a snail and its trail of mucus (with the lasagna representing the snail and the trail of cheese/toppings being the mucus). Anyways, before you scold me for that unappetizing simile, the gourmet lasagna at TDC was tasty and is Doughboy approved . Only I would order a dessert drink to kick off the meal I had there with my family, but let's be real, it's better than an appetizer. TDC's version of a chocolate martini is made with Five Farms Irish Cream, Chocolate Liqueur, and vodka. There was also obviously a little chocolate sauce, which the menu description omitted (along with the brand of vodka). You could taste the alcohol, but I wouldn't say it was overly boozy. It was just about right for a martini (which is still a lot for a lightweight like me). With a sweet tooth like mine, it still beats any standard martini, even if it's not the best chocolate martini I've ever experienced. Shaken or stirred, this dessert martini is Doughboy approved . Additionally, I included pictures of the fried Mozzarella Sticks and Ricotta-cheese filled ravioli we had for appetizers. The Mozzarella sticks were crispy on the outside and stuffed with melty cheese on the inside (you should have seen the cheese pull, and I wasn't even trying), doughboy approved . The ravioli was just okay . For dessert, I did try a little of my dinning companions' massive chocolate cake slice. There's a creamy chocolate buttercream on top of the slice along with alternating layers throughout the slice. The cake itself was rich and moist, while the frosting was chocolatey and sweet. Chocolate shavings also decorate the top of the slice, which in addition to the visual appeal, add a pleasant crunch that contrasts nicely with the soft and creamy cake. Dessert was easily Doughboy approved Doughboy_Food_Reviews

The menu states a Chicago stuffed pizza and since I'm from Chicago I thought I would try it even though I'm a thin crust cracker fan tavern style pizza from Chicago. Most people people not from Chicago have this misconception that it's a thick crust and they are turned off and say it's pan pizza that has too much crust and I'm tired of correcting them. Yes it's cooked in a pan with a thin crust and high walls like a pie cooked upside down with the cheese and toppings on the bottom and topped with a thin crust or not but the pizza sauce/tomato purée on top. I ordered takeout with a friendly young woman and the restaurant was very nice as I walked around and probably the nicest in the area. My pizza was ready in about 30 minutes and it smelled amazing. I ordered a 12 in stuffed Chicago style pizza with sausage which could feed 4 regular people because it's packed with cheese and toppings/sauce like a pie vs a flat pizza. Halfway into two slices I was full with the meat sweats. The cheese pull was absolutely perfect just out of the oven. The sauce was tasty with a garlic flavor and not sweet which I prefer as an Italian American. The sausage was top quality with some zing. Overall as a chicogan who likes thin over stuffed pizza it was fuc%ing delicious. This is a really tasty pizza with quality ingredients so they hit this pizza out of the park today.
