"Akita WHAAAAT?" Woof woof with curry on top!
Ate at their Schofield Barracks location a week or so (?) ago (before the flu season went "gotcha" and blanked my days--but I'll always prefer remembering food over how many days it's been Sickville, anyway).
Head for the Exchange mall and they're located in a landed trailer in roughly the same spot as Da Spot used to be. Serving the usual, Chicago-style/East Coast dogs in addition to some unique flavors.
Had the Akita Dog (all beef hot dog with a thin layer of white rice on it, Japanese-style curry over that, and a bit of mayo and diced white onion on top of THAT). Yeah, I know it sounds weird. You can get it without white rice, mayo, or onion. But chef recommended it this way, and we always go with what the chef says for starters. Payoff--was ONO! Don't think the mayo was Kewpie, though overall was still very yummy.
PROs:
+ Sweet customer service at the window; while I was waiting under the awning for my order, saw that they know their regulars and remember names. Nice!
+ Decent value for something a little different--two can eat for under $15 with drinks.
+ Can drink only, but cheap at $1 and you can always hoof it into the food court for a refillable drink if you're so inclined.
+ Food is made from scratch.
+ Bug/fly free thanks to their trailer with cover setup (yes, I checked).
+ Credit cards accepted, hooray!
+ Vet-owned business, double hooray!
+ Old school rattan chairs to sit in while you wait and you can smell the cooking!
+ Despite partially made-to-order, wait time is very quick and attention to detail is nice. They even ask if you're eating in or out, so you can have the container closed in a way that preserves the hot dog presentation (there is such a thing, right?).
MAYBEs:
* Open 10a-2p. Wish business hours were longer!
* Fridays is their curry special day; they don't always have it.
* Website seems in infancy, but their facebook is pretty updated: https://www.facebook.com/papadogshawaii
Because this was my first visit and I only ordered one item, I initially gotta go with four stars, but would gladly bump it up another star if the flavors keep on banging and the customer service continues to be on point.
