Eff this place! Horrible customer service and portions a so small. We ordered a bowl and burrito but the portions on the meat was so little it's like it was all salad and the meat portion was the topping SMH. What a waste of money. If I wanted a salad I would have just enjoyed one from aloha salad. Where the price there is right and salad is local. Everything here went wrong. 3 employees working and not one "hi!" From any one of them. They over charged me so instead of getting a refund for the chips and cheese I just took it. BIG MISTAKE. Cheese was over cooked with a cheese film on it and they still served it to me. Chips was so stale yet they claimed they just cooked it. More like microwaved the bag. The beans - straight out the can. The rice omg don't get me started. It's like day or two old. It's so dry u can literally make fried rice with it. And additional charge for a tiny scoop of guac @ $2.55 a scoop is so ridiculous!
Ummmmmmmmmmm, what a great burrito!!! I had Paniolos inside of Kahala Mall bookmarked for the longest time, as I remembered seeing my Yelp buddy - Bruddah Daniel C. posting some foodie pics from this place, but every time I'm thinking about Mexican cuisine, somehow I end up at a different Mexican joint. Lol! As luck would have it, I finally had the opportunity to give Paniolo's a try, as my friend - Nat N. had suggested this place to try. Paniolo's kinda reminds me of a "Mexican Subway" where you order & build your own meal. Paniolo's menu is pretty basic, as they offer burritos, tacos, & bowls. In my case, I was here to give da burrito a try! 1st, you pick you base - they had the following choices - a, cilantro lime white rice b, cilantro lime brown rice c. romaine hearts 2nd, you pick your beans. They had the following items - a. pinto beans b. black beans c. refried beans 3rd, you pick you proteins or vegetables. They offered the following choices : a. grilled vegetables b. tofu c. free range chicken d. kalua pig e. Paniolo steak f. grilled steak To top off your creation, they offered an array of toppings like - cheese, sour cream, salsa, onions, cilantro, jalapeño, limes, greens, & guacamole. So I built my burrito with the cilantro lime brown rice, black beans, free range chicken, and I had them dump a crap load of toppings to kick my burrito up a notch, and I must say I was pretty happy about my creation! My friend ended up getting a veggie steak bowl, which looked pretty darn good! What can I say about my burrito??? Since I could choose what I wanted in my burrito, I was most certainly pleased with my creation! The ingredients they used were fresh, and they were very generous with applying the items into your creation! I enjoyed my burrito so much, I'm already thinking about coming back here soon to build me another burrito!!!! :D Great efficient service, fresh ingredients, and reasonable prices.........Paniolo's is WINNAH'S!!! Chance 'em! No can go wrong!
As someone who lived in California and recently moved back to Hawaii, I was hoping Paniolos would be a good local alternative to Chipotle, but unfortunately, it falls short. The flavor just isn't there. The meat, salsa, and rice were all pretty bland, and the portion size was kinda lame for the price. I expected double the amount for $14. The one plus is that they use quality meats, which is appreciated -- but overall, the experience didn't live up to expectations.
This was ok. Not bad for a mall food court type set up. Meat needed a lot more flavoring, veggies were fresh and prices were a little high. Portion size was very good and location is convenient since it's located in Kahala Mall. Of all the meat choices I surprisingly liked the Paniolo meat the LEAST. Although this place is kind of a mixed bag I recommend if you're looking for a healthier mall food option.
Delicious bowl/burrito/wrap with whatever you want! It was worth waiting for them to open at 11 for my brown rice, black beans, roasted veggies and grilled chicken bowl with extra kick. Fresh ingredients and fast service... it was my first time here... maybe I'll do double protein and have them put lettuce on the bottom. I loved the read salsa, pico de gallo, coon and jalapeños on top. I'd definitely come back again
So i give this place a 2 star. The service was decent. Which is the 2 star I give the food 1 star. As far as the food goes, it was terrible for the price! $19 for stale tortilla chips and a flavorless bowl. Portion size was decent i suppose. But The chicken had no taste, The veggies look old, romain had brown stuff and vety wilted, i picked them out! I asked for lime And the dude gave me 1 debydrated lime. Which i asked for 2. When i got home it was to late to say anything! I know the prices on groceries is high but damn if they gonna charge that much then it should be atleast decent, i asked the guy for extra sour Cream and i got a drizzle. I had to go next door and buy more. Flavorless bowl. Safe to say i wont ever come back
Nice place that's closest to a Chipotle. It's much more elevated than the mall's Taco Bell The food was fresh tasting, filling, and good quantity. The burrito is quite filling. However, the best value and tasting was the bowl since you can add more veggies and toppings (just like Chipotle) Worth checking out since there's a nice variety of items. Quick service means faster time to eat. read more

Good food. Always order the bowl, I feel like you get more. I love that you can customize it to your own liking. The missing star is the lack of customer service. Young kids but not a reason to not be friendly. When I ordered, the girl starting my order was great. When my order moved down to the veggies, he just stared at me. Uh, so I assumed he was waiting for what I wanted on it. At least say something. Then then cashier, no words at all either. Just staring. I understand that there's probably customers out there that just blurt out their orders and are very vocal but some need guidance and it's nice to hear that you're ready or what you need from us. Customer service is one of the reasons people come back or don't. read more
Gave this place a try since Kahala Mall is an easy place to pick up something to eat. I tried the steak bowl with black beans. It looked amazing and fresh and healthy but for some reason it did not appeal to me. It didn't register on my taste palate as Mexican food or a salad or a bowl of a combination of flavors that went well together. I picked off the steak and then everything seemed to kind of mush together so did not eat even a third of it. It could be I just didn't order the right item but not sure it's worth giving them another try with other tastier options so close by for the same price range. read more

This place sucks. I'm always disappointed every time I come here. Terrible customer service, terrible portions, terrible price. I got a bowl, asked for grilled steak, and got a half-spoonful of meat. I asked for a little more please and they said its gonna be $7 extra. are you serious?!! $7 more for another half-spoonful? It's already $15 by the way. I seriously wanted to just walk away. It's also a bunch of kids working who don't give af about you or your food! Also, the rice is hard, they put piles of beans to make ur bowl heavy, and the meat is so chewy. Terrible, I do not recommend to anyone. So frustrated.... I would give it 0 stars if i could read more

Paniolos omg I've passed by here countless amount of times but never quite understood it and that's gonna change. I wouldn't say I'm picky let's just say "selective" I don't prefer to do so much modifications like my Starbucks drinks because somehow it could get lost in translation. Here you build your own creation from start to finish. First you decide if you want a Taco, Burrito or Bowl. Then your build starts with white or brown cilantro rice or romaine hearts. Then choice of beans (pinto, black or refried) next is protein (grilled veggies, tofurico, free range chicken, kalua pig, paniolo steak, grilled steak) Finalize it with the toppings of your choice...oh yeah!!! Very hearty but not heavy just a nice right balance of everything...of course I made it lol!' Friendly staff and the convenience to upscale your meal and make it your own is something I could get used to for sure, thank you!! read more

I ordered the one taco today from a very nice employee at the Kahala Mall Paniolos. He started by shoeing me the tortilla and asked me what type of protein I would like to choose from the menu. I chose the Paniolo Steak. Then he asked me to choose four choices. I chose the tomato salsa, corn, cilantro, and cheese. All for $4.97. Taste: I liked it. Next time, I'll be sure to order three tacos. It was that good. The steak was soft and tasty and I liked the spiciness of the tomato salsa. Another customer ordered a burrito and it looked super delicious. read more
Similar to chipotle, you can pick a burrito, tacos, or bowl with you choice of meat, rice, beans, toppings and choice of 2 salsas. So quick, easy , and tasty. I normally go for the bowl since they pile it high and I feel you get the most bang for your buck. I like getting the grilled steak which can sometimes be tough and chewy, white cilantro rice, and all the toppings with the tomato and corn salsa. I wish that I could pick more than two salsas but unfortunately that cost extra. I also recommend the paniolo steak and tofu option. Located by the stage next to Starbucks and the apple store. It take out only. I love this place because you can customize it to your liking and I am always left satisfied and full. read more
I've always wanted to try Paniolos, but their first and only location was in Kailua for the longest time, so I never got to. Fast forward to 2020, it's finally in town, which means this townie finally got her hands on some! This location is inside of Kahala Mall, right next to the stage and Aloha Salads. Ordering style & toppings are similar to Chipotle (and Chronic Tacos, although I've never tried them before) We got a burrito with the cilantro lime brown rice, and asked for half each of the refried & pinto beans. For the protein, we ordered kalua pig, and got cheese, salsa, and a variety of veggies. The service was quick and the prices ($10.50 - prices based on the protein you choose) weren't bad! The burrito was hefty in size and satisfying. One thing I needed more clarification on (but me being the awkward person I am, couldn't bring myself to ask lol) - When ordering the toppings, I asked for all the veggies except for the jalapeños. The worker mumbled under her mask that once you exceed ____ amount, it's an additional _____ charge. Yup, I missed the two most important things in that sentence LOL I paid with my Restaurant Card so I still got 5/7 toppings not caring if there was an extra charge, but she didn't charge me for it. This left me wondering what exactly she said. Other than that very mysterious exchange of words we had, my overall experience here was good. Mexican food isn't something I usually crave, but now that it's so close I'll probably be back again. read more

Quick and easy dinner choice. Location: Inside Kahala Mall next door to Aloha Salads near Center Court. Parking: Free mall parking. Park at the entrance nearest Whole Foods and Starbucks for easy access. Price: $10-13 per meal plus drink. Kalua pig is always juicy and soft. Portion size varies based on the employee packing it but it's always a good size for one person. read more

I was stuck at Apple literally all day due to a tech issue with my MacBook Air. Since I was there longer than some of the employees shifts, a few employees told me to go grab food if I was hungry and they would watch my belongings. Paniolos was new in the area so I decided to check them out. Also, it's next to the Apple Store and Starbucks where I was getting a coffee refill. It took me a minute to go through their menu to decide. When I stood in line, I made my choice. It's like Subway or Pieology where you pick and choose what you want then they put it in your order. I ordered the Bowl because I didn't want my hands to get dirty from their Burrito or Taco option. My choices were Cilantro Lime Brown Rice, Black Beans, Cheese, Sour Cream, Tomato Fresco, Roasted Tomato with Chipotle Peppers, Paniolo Steak, Cilantro and Jalapeños. Nice healthy serving and the customer service was friendly from all the employees. It was also nice to find out this was a healthy version of Mexican food. I got my order and went back to eat it at the Apple Store Genius Bar. It was surprisingly better than I expected! The meal definitely left me content and I was able to draft this review as I was waiting for my laptop to be finished. If you're craving Mexican around Kahala Mall then definitely check them out. read more

Finally, a great Mexican-style food joint in Kahala Mall! They are located next to the center stage area, in between In My Closet and Aloha Salads. As mentioned by other Yelpers, this is a build-your-own meal concept, like Chipotle or Taco Del Mar. We ordered the Kalua Pig bowl and the three tacos. The Kalua Pig bowl was delicious. The pork was marinated, flavorful, and pretty well-textured. It wasn't too salty but salty enough to add to its flavor. The beans were a little more firmer than I prefer but anything beats canned beans, so no gripes here. The hot sauce was tasty but not super spicy. The pico de gallo/fresco salsa was refreshing. Toppings were very fresh and added great flavor to the overall bowl. The tacos were pretty generous. The meats we chose were Organic Chicken, Grilled Steak, and Paniolo Steak. Chicken was very tasty and well-marinated. The Grilled Steak was absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked - the winner of the three. And the Paniolo steak was good but a little too sweet/strong in adobo sauce for us. Prices are reasonable! They give a lot of food and their ingredients are all fresh, which you can taste as you're eating. I would definitely come back to try the other meats and get my Mexican-cravings fulfilled. Kalua Pig and Grilled Steak is our go-tos (for now) but I also gotta try their other menu items. Also, gotta appreciate the meaning of the name and its relevance to Hawaii's history of Hawaiian cowboys. Love it! read more

Paniolos opened recently in the space where GRYLT was in kahala mall. It's unfortunate that I love chipotle so much, because I feel like I'd give this place a higher rating if I had nothing to compare it to. It's basically like chipotle. You can choose from tacos, a burrito or a rice bowl. Then you choose what type of beans you want, what type of protein you want and finally the toppings you want. I got a rice bowl... because that's what I always get at chipotle. You can choose brown or white rice and both rices are "lime" flavored with little pieces of cilantro mixed in. I don't like beans, so I asked for more rice. At chipotle, the workers happily oblige, but here, I guess that's not common practice and they guy kind of unwillingly gave me more rice. I chose to get the steak, and was surprised to see how little protein they use. I finished my bowl with some cheese, pico, corn salsa and lettuce. For $11, it was just ok. I didn't think the meat and rice and corn were as flavorful as what I'm used to and the amount of protein left something to be desired. Will I return? Possibly. I'm at kahala mall a lot. Will I miss chipotle every time I walk by Paniolos? Definitely. read more
I was in the mood for a hearty burrito and this was the best option in Kahala Mall! Pretty simple menu -- burrito, tacos, or a bowl. Handful of different protein sources - I was pleasantly surprised by their Tofurico option which was like a chipotle baked tofu. YUM! You can choose up to 2 of the 4 salsas, sour cream OR cheese, anything from their veggies, and guac is $2.25 extra (but worth it in my opinion!). read more

Man i was craving for chipotle but because HI doesn't have chipotle here, my personal substitute is Paniolos. It's been years since i haven't had Paniolos so i decided to venture out on my lunch break. Located inside of Kahala mall and across the apple store, there was no wait time when it was my turn to be helped and everything through the glass case looked sooooo fresh. I got my usual preference, a bowl: you pick your toppings, meats, beans, and rice: i love their cilantro white rice, which also has an option for brown rice as well if you wanna cut down on rice calories. I like how the cilantro lifts the flavor not just with the rice but also to compliment the meat: i got steak. That's my usual. It's great how they cut the steak in bite sized and it was delicious and i didn't have much of steak fat which is great because i don't prefer it much in my food. To compliment the meat and rice, i also added black beans (there's option for refried or pinto beans), and i topped it off with their tomato and corn mixes, along with cilantro, tossed salad, their avo sauce, a spoonful of chopped sweet onions, chopped jalapeños (which isn't extremely spicy!), a lime wedge, and finished with sour cream. My mouth is watery. They had the usual fountain drinks and bottle water but something stood out to me and caught my eye: Shaka iced tea - mango hibiscus. I definitely had to try it! It was great!!!! It's literally an infused brewed tea, 0 calories, sugar free and 100% plant based to cleanse the palette after every bite i take. I ate the whole thing on my meal and it was such a great balance! I didn't feel like the food was heavy like having a "kanak attack" lol but it was just right. But just be careful on the beans lol (if you know what i mean). I will definitely be back to try more options!!! Good staff as they recommended me on what choices were popular and fast service with contactless payment options! read more

Saw that this place opened so we stopped by to pick up dinner. The assembly line for making your food is super quick, since everything is already prepared. I got the paniolo steak (which is like marinated pulled beef). I got to try some of the grilled steak as well and I do prefer that, especially since it's the same price. If you're one of those people who has the gene that makes you hate cilantro (like me), it's a bit disappointing that both their rice options have cilantro mixed in. It was tolerable for me, but could be bad for someone who's more sensitive. Overall a solid place for a quick meal. read more
There are no words to describe how much I am obsessed with this place. From the food to the service and location, Paniolos Hawaii has been my friends and I go to spot for lunch for about half a year now. We are known regulars and they even know our orders without our assistance. The food is just amazing, the produce always taste fresh and they have a huge variety to choose from! I personally get a bowl with white cilantro rice, no beans, steak whether its paniolo or grilled, lettuce, cheese, and cilantro. I love this bowl, its only about eleven dollars and can hold me for two meals of the day. It is very filling and I dont feel guilty eating it as well. My friend gets a burrito with brown rice, black beans, chicken, lettuce, cheese, pico, corn and cilantro. Literally the best tasting mexican place in Oahu. And to include the fact that they incorporate Hawaiian history of Paniolos give it a very local feel to your experience. The customer service is top notch, like I said before, they already know our order and are always kind when helping us get lunch quickly. We love them a lot as we have literally nothing bad about them! Definitely recommend them if youre looking for a quick mexican food fix as they have bowls, burritos and tacos! read more

Went to Kāhala mall yesterday for an early dinner and a movie. Ended up at Paniolo Joes. My friend got the nachos which was a heaping portion. Good enough for 2 people to share. I ended up with their chicken bowl with lettuce instead of rice. Ate ALL of it. It was so good. Not to mention my first meal of the day. read more

Does this location have any plans to start doing catering orders sort of like Chipotle does large catering on the mainland? You guys can expand to make a lot of money with large catering orders. I'm talking about the big chipotle catering boxes..
