The locals already know all this...and you'll see them lined up waiting if you come at the busy times. And if you do...do what they do. Wait. It's worth it. Thankfully we arrived right in front of a rush and only waited 5 minutes before being escorted upstairs to a fairly isolated table. The ambience is old-school-diner and the service is back-to-basics. No overwhelming friendliness or chatty interchanges. They all just keep moving, working and trying to keep up. It's not a big restaurant, even with the upstairs seating -- maybe 25-30 patrons per level and I counted at least 9 employees. That's a high ratio. That said, service was slow. We waited longer than I would have expected to have our order taken (10+ minutes), but that's really my only gripe. It's not enough to lose a star though -- and like I said, it's all worth the wait. The food is incredible. That's why you are here. The serving sizes are generous. The food comes out hot. And the flavors are excellent. I enjoyed a corned beef and hash -- substituting the country potatoes for crispy hashbrowns, topped with scrambled eggs and my date enjoyed a kitchen sink omelette with hashbrowns. We both LOVED our choices and I'll just highlight -- the corned beef is slow cooked (8 hours) and chunky. It's incredible. Food was fine. They ran out of the Nutella for my partners meal which is fine stuff happens. But server kept disappearing for a long time and we had to wave her down to get anything. I tried asking a couple questions at the beginning after we got our drinks and after one question she goes "how bout you take some time" and walked away. At the end the server and what looked to be a cook but I'm not sure we're talking very loudly behind the counter with kids in the dinning room just feet away swearing. I was just not impressed and beyond disappointed. At the end she also "forgot the cash discount" which is whatever I reminded her and that was the end but for $44 for 2 entries and just water no actual drinks I was hoping to at least be served and not felt like a problem. read more

We hit Pangea on a Friday at about 11:40 and we were lucky to get a table. They gave us two huge menus, one breakfast menu both sides and one lunch menu both sides and we had a terrible time deciding what to have. But in the end we both had lunch. I had the Reuben and it was very good although I thought the chips were not as crispy as I would have liked. My friend had a bowl with the Korean ribs which she enjoyed. We both took portions home. The sandwich was definitely shareable. It's local café ambience, nothing special, comfortable, slightly noisy. Good service, excellent coffee in a gigantic mug. They offer a ton of variety for sweet or savory food options--almost making it too hard to choose (which is a good problem to have, though )!! We were big fans of the Eggs Benedict and Steak & Eggs Skillet! The cafe gives off a homey, small town vibe and is situated in a perfect spot to browse the nearby shops afterwards. Phenomenal! The food and service were fantastic! Three of us were visiting Waconia from NY and Charlotte and this was one of the best breakfast we've ever had!! Horrible service! At least with one waitress. I was a walk in the other day. Stood in the doorway gif over 20mins. The upstairs of the cafe was closed, and really should be opened. Only 2 waitresses on. Not enough for the business they seem to get. Anyways, The redheaded waitress completely avoided eye contact with me the whole time. No, we will be with you soon, nothing. Finally the other waitress was trying to be kind enough to sit me, and redhead says, no we have 2 tables before her. No niceties. Nothing. Just turned and walked away. The other waitress apologized. We were seated at a dirty glass top table. Took about 15 minutes before our order was taken then waited 30 minutes for our food. The hash browns were cold. The omelets didn't have any flavor and we were only given a fork, no knife to cut our food or to spread jam on our toast. When the food was delivered (by someone other than our waitress) we weren't asked if we needed anything else. He dropped the plates at the table and booked it back to the kitchen. We never got our coffee until halfway through our meal our waitress finally came back and asked if everything was ok. Waitress didn't come back again until she cleared our plates and said she'd be back with our check. 10 minutes later we went to the register to pay, still without a bill. It was cold in the restaurant. They appeared short staffed. Very disappointing. read more

This year we tried gluten free bananas foster French toast and chocolate chip pancakes and they were both great! We tried them twice for consistency. The first visit: Food was ready on time and staff was very pleasant. We did not get the fruit side for the kids pancakes and the bacon was floppy. The French toast and pancakes were perfect. The second visit: The food was ready and cold actually (although I arrived at the beginning of the quoted time) The fruit side was there and the pancakes and bacon was perfect. The French toast had more toppings but less "foster" this time. I can't speak for the eggs as I didn't try them this year. I think if they moved toward consistent menu delivery, I could learn to really like this place. read more

Yesterdays choice was Pangea, and let me tell you, there was not one thing about our experience that was disappointing. From the cute, homey interior to the incredible servers who made us feel more like regulars than first timers, this place was outstanding before we even tasted the food. My first time in this town and I was meeting a friend. It's a nice drive from the TC. She recommended here since I like trying new places. This is the place to see and be seen in Waconia. They don't give you a menu as soon as they seat you. But when you get it it's hard to decide between breakfast and lunch, cause the menu is so perfect, they have everything you could want. I settled on the gnocchi skillet, it had mushrooms, soft red pepper, and white cheddar. It was excellent. So was the peach mimosa with lots of simple syrup. Worst food of my life. The omelet I ordered had EXTRA of the things I said I DO NOT want and made sure the waitress heard me and wrote it down, yet they were still on there. I couldn't eat more than 2 bites. My boyfriend and I had 2 omelets and 2 drinks and the bill was over $100. Ordered a Reuben, which was pretty good and a Cuban, and a cup of the soup special, chicken wild rice. Service is really slow, but we came for the food (third time). Disappointed with the cuban- it was not completely toasted. The soup was so awful my husband couldn't eat it. We told the waitress but no adjustment was made. The chicken was chewy and stringy, and the flavor was bland. We at least expected an apology, but none was made - although we did get an up charge for using a credit card. Waconia is a charming lakeside town. It has a vibrant downtown with a variety of interesting shops. An excellent medical center. A good movie theater. A brewery. And, it has Pangea Cafe, a cozy, family-owned spot that never disappoints. Every time we have a need to be in Waconia we stop at Pangea for breakfast or lunch. Yesterday it was bitterly cold, and the hot chocolate they served up was the best we've ever had. The corned beef hash, always my litmus test for small cafes, was fabulous. They slow-roast the meet, add lots of red, yellow and green peppers, along with tons of potatoes and some onions. The 2 sunnyside up eggs were done perfectly. The serving was so large I had to take most of it home to eat later. We also ordered a traditional breakfast of eggs, hash browns and toast, along with extra crispy thick bacon. Delicious. In a previous visit, ​we had the cobb salad, which was excellent. Bottom line: if you live close by and haven't been, go. If you ever have a need to go to, or travel through Waconia, make a beeline to Pangea. And come hungry. read more

I always leave satisfied, full, and feeling slightly healthy in my choices. My latest trip (supported by the pictures) features the Lolo Eggs Benedict and hash browns, and The Mighty Omelet. Before being seated, we had a 10 minute wait, and a busy restaurant ahead of us. Our server was friendly and apologetic for the wait. In/on the Lolo, the goat cheese and avocado add a delicious twist to a "regular" eggs Benedict with Canadian Bacon. I would strongly suggest! They're hash browns are to die for as well. Have been here multiple times and it wasnt bad. Today the hashbrowns were burnt on one side and raw on the other, at the same time they were so soaked in oil there was an 1/8 inch of oil still on the plate when you moved them. The toast was not toasted, just bread with melted butter slathered on them, completely inedible. The kitchen sink omelette was also so drenched in oil or grease you could not even taste the ingredients. It wasnt busy, the cooks had my meal out in less than 5 minutes and then stood around flirting with the waitresses. Such a lovely cafe with elevated taste for a small town. I always thought breakfast was their jam.... the I tried dinner last night! Both are SO good! Now I can't decide what I like better there! Breakfasts I usually go with the Lolo.... Benedict w chèvre... yes please! And last night for dinner I was there for a catered event... WOW! I got to try so many things from the dinner menu and it was DELICIOUS! My fav was the spinach artichoke dip (best I've ever had!) and the chicken lettuce wraps .... so savory and delicious!
