Fast eye exam and not a long wait. The assistants and doctors are great. I badly needed a new pair of glasses and they delivered.

You do have to go to the Wahiawa clinic for the actual surgery, but I am 100% satisfied with the results. I can actually see without my glasses.. it's like magic! Dr. Rhee & staff were great. The first time was a good experience we covered all concerns. Maybe because there was an intern observing I transferred all my records. The second visit was horrible. I had a long wait and nobody could find my lab, x-rays and other pertinent records which the doctor ordered during my first visit. I had to email them what I had after waiting an hour on the exam chair while they looked for them. The doctor didn't seem very concerned about the results and just recommended to get new glasses with the new prescription and didn't spend time on my other concerns. He kept leaving the exam room while the nurse looked for my files. If all you need is a new prescription, it serves its purpose. But if you have other concerns, you will have to advocate for yourself. I also asked for my file and never got it. The girls at the front desk made me wait for an answer on when I can get it while they talked about lunch. Overall experience? Very unprofessional practice. They need to train their staff better. Otherwise my new eyeglass prescription is very good but I still had to go to a specialist to assess my other concerns which I thought they were going to help me with.

I went to both pre and post exams from September 2024 to my final follow-up in June 2025. Several of the post operation exams were performed by Dr. Soriano with the final follow-up exam appointment done by Dr. Tokunaga. Besides having the laser glaucoma surgery, i opted also for near AND far vision corrections AND the procedure to lessen the eye pressure from the mild glaucoma that I have had for a few years. Yay! No need for use of my gas permeable contacts ANYMORE that i have used since 1985 and glasses before than since the 5th grade! My first surgery took place on Veterans Day on November 12, 2024 on my left eye (as that eye was my strong eye) since i would without the use of glasses or contacts until my next eye surgery to my right eye in February, the 24th to be exact. The actual eye surgeries for both eyes took place at an eye surgery center on the second floor of the Dole Cannery Square in Iwilei. My right eye post-surgery did not' 'heal' as quickly as my left eye surgery back in November, so I had to go to one more post follow up exams... which by that time, my vision had noticeably improved ! The feeling of warmth and compassion by EVERY staff member was so genuine and not a 'put on show' that when I had my last follow up with Dr Tokunaga in mid-June, I (sincerely) shook his hand and really wanted to break down and cry to tell him how welcomed i felt with he and his staff! I know, I know...I'm a man at 66... but hey, I still have feelings you know... haha... You know that i now live in Waipahu and not the east side... i did have strong thoughts of changing my eye exam location to here in Aiea. But I still also have my allegiance to Dr. Chan and staff at Hawaii-Kai where i have gone there since 2006.. so hence, I will still gladly make the drive to Hawaii Kai. But Aloha Vison Care Aiea ---- ALL OF YOU... deserve the compliments that i have to talk about! btw, parking there at that medical building complex is $1 per 30 minutes...no need to stamp anything at the doctor's office...

The office hours posted outside said 7:45 a.m. and it was still dark with a short wait. Felt relieved when the lights suddenly turned on and the door was held open. Was given a 5 page handout on a clipboard to fill out. Their questions about your total body, history etc was the most comprehensive I've ever seen. So many patients going in and coming out before my name was called. The female that took me to one of the rooms on the left used machines and even a headpiece to check my vision. I've never seen machines like those before. Then we proceeded to two more rooms for various tests and measurements. So different from my eye doctor's ones. Returning to the first room Dr. Tokunaga knocked and entered. He introduced himself, asked a few questions then went over the findings. He informed me of 3 types of lens that can be implanted for cataracts ranging to $3500. He explained the differences of each lens and the procedure on a model of the eye. I asked about the alien appearance of one of my friends' eyes in the light and he said all lens have a refelection. I will return in 2 months in August for scheduling surgery one month later. Had to ask about recovery time. You return here one day after surgery to have the patch removed. He recommends staying on island a week after. Surgery is performed at an eye center at Dole in town. He would notify my eye doctor and regular doctor of his findings. He said take care and I'll need medical clearance before the pending September surgery. The total exam took about half an hour and he said the cataract surgery was not a rush for me but since I was there...the actual procedure is about 15 minutes plus a few hours before you are released to go home. Okay, one appointment and one eye at a time.

I was…read morereferred to the clinic and I emphatically recommend Jenkins Eye Clinic and Dr. Nikpoor. The vision in my right eye began diminishing nearly two years ago. At first it felt like I was seeing the world through plastic wrap smeared with bacon grease; over time it worsened into what seemed like wrinkled paper. I was scared I might lose sight in that eye. I had to depend solely on my left eye and felt unsafe driving at night because headlights became blinding spotlights. At Jenkins Eye Clinic I learned I had cataracts in both eyes. The staff were pleasant, knowledgeable, accommodating, and compassionate. I was a little devastated at first -- I thought I was too young -- but Dr. Nikpoor put me at ease. She explained what to expect before and after the procedure, answered all my questions about vision outcomes, pain, downtime, and cost, and helped me schedule bilateral cataract surgery for early April. My procedure was scheduled for 8:00 a.m., and I was out by 9:30 a.m. Tears of joy escaped my eyes when I realized I could see through my right eye again. The vision felt different -- somehow better. Colors, especially blue, are deeper and more vivid; whites are more brilliant. I can now safely drive at night without fear. I am grateful to Dr. Nikpoor, the staff at Jenkins Eye Clinic, and the team at The Surgical Suites.

We learn, play sports, watch movies, read, enjoy sunsets and fireworks, etc. through our eyes. What would we do without them? I first visited Jenkins Eye Care in 2000 and had LASIK surgery. The best result was getting rid of contact lenses! That one inconvenience was gone from my daily routine! What a relief! Recently, my optometrist noticed that I had the beginnings of cataracts. So many people advised me to get the surgery as soon as possible, so... Okay... I went for the exam/consultation and now am waiting to schedule the surgery. It's such a popular procedure that the office is backed up for months! I'm looking forward to interacting with the professional, patient, and pleasant staff again! I think I met six different people who helped me navigate the system! They were all kind and thorough! I highly recommend Jenkins Eye Care. They're very experienced and have an excellent reputation!

Dr. Steven Rhee's response was wholly inadequate. It was unnecessary, unpersuasive, and failed to…read moreresolve any aspect of the situation. His conduct reflects a clear lack of interest in addressing a serious operational failure within his practice. As anticipated, his response relied on the same pattern of excuses and justifications he presented on the morning of December 13 at his Hawaiian Eye Clinic in Wahiawa. Dr. Steven Rhee had more than twenty-four hours to contact me and address the incident in a calm, professional, and non-confrontational manner. He failed to do so. This failure indicates an absence of accountability, as well as a lack of regret or acknowledgment of what occurred at his Wahiawa clinic. This entire incident was preventable. It arose from a failure to ensure that front desk personnel on duty the morning of Tuesday, December 13 were properly trained to interact with preoperative patients who are, by definition, often anxious, vulnerable, and physically compromised. I was in precisely that condition. The situation escalated only after his staff demonstrated negligence in handling required paperwork, which was not available at the scheduled start time of my 8:00 a.m. surgery. Under those circumstances, my response was a direct consequence of both the operational failure and my medical condition. The refusal to invest in adequate staff training, particularly where patient care and preoperative procedures are concerned, constitutes a systemic failure. When staff commit an avoidable error of this magnitude, they are obligated to respond with professionalism and corrective action. Instead, they abandoned professional standards. My reaction does not justify or excuse that conduct. In this instance, the patient was a disabled American military veteran, an individual who previously served in defense of the United States, its citizens, and its national interests. That fact heightens, rather than diminishes, the expectation of professional and respectful treatment. Dr. Steven Rhee's failure to correct his staff during the incident, and his decision to align himself with their conduct, is significant. It demonstrates a disregard for the patient and undermines any claim that patient care is his primary concern. The evidence supports a different conclusion: that financial considerations take precedence over patient welfare. If Dr. Steven Rhee genuinely prioritized his patients, and particularly disabled veterans, the conduct observed would not have occurred. There would have been no excuse-making, no deflection of responsibility, and no hostile or unprofessional behavior. Instead, the situation would have been addressed immediately, competently, and respectfully, restoring order and allowing the scheduled surgery to proceed. As a direct result of this failure, I did not receive the surgery for which I had waited nearly one year, despite the significant time and effort I invested in preparing for it. On the morning of Tuesday, December 13, at approximately 8:50 a.m., I was dismissed and sent home by Uber by the administrative head, identified as "Jocelyn." This incident represents the most severe failure of healthcare delivery I have experienced in over sixty years.

It was always crowded, super long wait and I barely understood the doctor. I finally took matters into my own hands, looked online and found Alohi Clinic. But what I can say is booking online was easy for me and when I had to adjust times, calling was just as easy. There is a code to get into the building, which they give you, and the waiting area is a good space nice cool and quiet. They offer services like facials, hair removal, etc. but they also are an internal medicine practice so you can come for normal PCP stuff. It's pretty great. The wait is quick, the front desk is friendly and the office is clean. So far it's been great with this clinic and I'm glad we found it.

From our very first visit, Dr. Coelho made us feel completely at ease. He's incredibly knowledgeable and thorough, but what really stands out is the way he takes his time to explain everything clearly -- not just the "what," but the "why." You never feel rushed or like just another appointment on the schedule. There's something about the care he provides that feels personal and comforting -- almost like being "at home." That's hard to put into words, but it truly makes a difference. For the first time, I can honestly say I'll never dread going to see my primary care doctor again. If you're looking for a physician who combines professionalism, compassion, and genuine connection, I can't recommend Dr. Coelho at Alohi Clinic enough.
