My cousin needed new glasses because his frame was broken. We had to get pre-authorization from his Primary Care Physician to see Dr. Tanji again... after all of these years... because of insurance coverage. It took a few phone calls, but the appointment was finally made for 2:20pm. We arrived early to update paperwork. Cousin was called in at 2:28pm... not bad! He had some testing done; waited in the lobby for a few minutes; then got called back in. In short: mission accomplished! (We were there for about 2 hours total.) He got a prescription to take to Lensctafters! Thank you, Dr. Tanji and staff for your professionalism, thorough manner, and cheerfulness! Therefore, I made an appointment to have my right eye fixed. This time, I was kept waiting in the waiting room for 2 hours. I finally had to go to the restroom. When I returned, I asked how much longer do I have to wait. I was told that I lost my turn because I was not in the waiting room when I was called. I then had to wait another hour. When I finally had my left eye worked on, Dr. Tanji said that if my eyesight is not improved, he could redo it. A few days later, I was looking at the full moon and could see 2 moons. I made an appointment to see Dr. Tanji to correct the problem. When he saw me again, he said that he was not going to fix it. His exact words were, "do you know how hard it is to do this? Have you gone to see your doctor for a checkup?" He was insinuating that my mind was not working! I had to see another specialist who tried to correct the mess that Dr. Tanji caused but it could not be completely corrected. Plus, Dr. Tanji made a tear on my eyeball. I am stuck now with double vision which cannot be completely corrected with glasses. Dr. Tanji not only ruined my eyesight but he was also very cocky and condescending!!!

As I planned to have both of my eyes done over the next few months, for laser glaucoma surgery, i…read morebegan going to Dr. Tokunaga (who I was referred to by my regular eye doctor Dr. Chan at Honolulu Vision Care Center in Hawaii-Kai) at the Aloha Vision Consultants location in Aiea as it was closer to where I now live. I went to both pre and post exams from September 2024 to my final follow-up in June 2025. Several of the post operation exams were performed by Dr. Soriano with the final follow-up exam appointment done by Dr. Tokunaga. Besides having the laser glaucoma surgery, i opted also for near AND far vision corrections AND the procedure to lessen the eye pressure from the mild glaucoma that I have had for a few years. Yay! No need for use of my gas permeable contacts ANYMORE that i have used since 1985 and glasses before than since the 5th grade! My first surgery took place on Veterans Day on November 12, 2024 on my left eye (as that eye was my strong eye) since i would without the use of glasses or contacts until my next eye surgery to my right eye in February, the 24th to be exact. The actual eye surgeries for both eyes took place at an eye surgery center on the second floor of the Dole Cannery Square in Iwilei. My right eye post-surgery did not' 'heal' as quickly as my left eye surgery back in November, so I had to go to one more post follow up exams... which by that time, my vision had noticeably improved ! The feeling of warmth and compassion by EVERY staff member was so genuine and not a 'put on show' that when I had my last follow up with Dr Tokunaga in mid-June, I (sincerely) shook his hand and really wanted to break down and cry to tell him how welcomed i felt with he and his staff! I know, I know...I'm a man at 66... but hey, I still have feelings you know... haha... You know that i now live in Waipahu and not the east side... i did have strong thoughts of changing my eye exam location to here in Aiea. But I still also have my allegiance to Dr. Chan and staff at Hawaii-Kai where i have gone there since 2006.. so hence, I will still gladly make the drive to Hawaii Kai. But Aloha Vison Care Aiea ---- ALL OF YOU... deserve the compliments that i have to talk about! btw, parking there at that medical building complex is $1 per 30 minutes...no need to stamp anything at the doctor's office...

I did not have any regular ophthalmologists since I had previously gone to the eye centers at Costco and Sams club. After calling all around the nearby areas in East Honolulu, I found that all other doctors were about 2 weeks out for any new appointments. Finally called Dr Yoshioka and was able to get an earlier appointment due to another patient's cancellation. The office is located in the small office building next to the public parking lot off 11th avenue or in the same building as Subways and Paul Mitchell salon school on the 2nd floor. Parking is either around the neighboring streets by meter or in the pay lot. I parked +2 hours and the fee was only $3.00 The office is fairly small with just a few seats (4) in the waiting area. Upon my arrival, I was greeted by Erva who normally is the doctor's assistant for eye testing etc. but the receptionist was out for that day. Erva was super helpful running back to man the front office, answer phones and conduct the preliminary eye evaluations. Erva made me feel welcomed right away and she was so friendly and accommodating. After all of the preliminary paper work and some basic eye tests, I was seen by Dr Yoshioka who was very courteous and explained each and every process to me before undertaking the procedures. He performed many eye tests which I had never experienced ever in all of my years. Dr Yoshioka is very thorough and patient to explain everything to you after he completes the entire procedure and tests. I am so happy to have found Dr Yoshioka for my eye health needs and look forward to having him take care of me in the future. If you are in need of any eye care, do yourself a favor and see Doctor Yoshioka. He is easily one of the best doctors I have ever been under the care of.

I was lucky both times to have Stephanie as my pre-surgery nurse, the same anesthesiologist and of course, Dr. Jason Tokunaga of Aloha Vision Consultants to do the laser to break apart the cataracts then move to the operating room to have the new Odyssey lenses implanted. The actual surgery is supposed to be about 15 minutes. Once okay to be discharged your nurse will contact your emergency person to walk with you to your car to go home, or out to have lunch since you have been fasting. Dr. Tokunaga's office is in Aiea but he said Eye Surgery Center at Dole Cannery is the best. I would definitely agree.

Melanie quickly checked us in and the two fantastic technicians, Jasmine and Reina thoroughly reviewed my dad's history and helped measure his intraocular eye pressure, Cassie did detailed imaging, and Dr. Miller, along with his wonderful assistant Cecilia, carefully evaluated his eyes and explained everything clearly. The office location was not far from my home, And so, I made my decision (to make an appointment) based on proximity to home, as well as being included in the HMSA provider network. NOTES 1. The office is located within the Stadium Mall complex near the entrance to Ice Palace. Ample parking available within the complex lot. 2. I made my appointment online, BUT they do call to confirm the appointment fyi. I was contacted two days prior. 3. Email correspondence with the office/staff was polite and professional. 4. My visit was in the 1st half of July 2026. I arrived about 10 minutes before my appointment, and the front receptionist extended a friendly greeting as I approached the front counter/office area. I signed a consent form, provided my ID and insurance cards, and patiently waited my turn. I was initially assisted by Alice, who expertly took my medical history and necessary patient info. I found speaking with her very comfortable, and she definitely put me an ease before she began the initial eye exam (I would later meet wit Dr. Fusato during the visit who also conducted other testing). Alice patiently explained the purpose and use of all the instrumentation she would be using in the exam room (four all together). She was very patient and knowledgeable throughout the entire process, and I appreciated her thorough explanations about how to position my face for each of the instruments. After we were done in the exam room, I waited in front area for a few minutes before the exam continued in another room. The next portion of the exam was very similar to the eye exam for renewal of your driver's license. After Alice was done administering these tests, Dr. Fusato came into the room for the remainder of the exams. Dr. Fusato's demeanor/"bedside manner" was very friendly and professional. He explained the testing results thoroughly and provided a comfortable environment (for a first time patient visit) for discussion and questions.
