Their soup is quite good, and they have a variety of dessert options. I recommend calling about 20 minutes ahead to save time on pickup orders, although I also enjoy walking in to eat there, with natural light and fun art on the walls. I was searching yelp for a place to get a sandwich and this place looked good. (They had me at fresh baked bread). It did not disappoint. My sandwich was great and the chocolate chip cookie was very good. I wished I had room for the chicken barley soup as it sounded good. Nice employees too. Seems family run. Really tasty, high quality and high quantity reasonably priced food. I had the Veggie Cabra sandwich, which was a really good veggie sandwich with goat cheese. The ratio of all the vegetables and cheese and bread was spot on, and the bread itself was really fresh. The chicken feta salad was a big portion with fresh ingredients and a yummy vinaigrette. The pizza bread was so good--Panes bread with tomato sauce and cheese, with six pieces for a very low price! The staff was friendly both on the phone and when I picked up my order. The cafe has been here for 25 years and recently just started accepting credit cards (according to recent yelp reviews). I ordered the banana pecan French toast for ~ $6.95. It was such a steal and absolutely delicious! I even had leftovers because the portion was generous. The cafe is counter service (like every cafe). It had a large food menu (brunch menu and lunch menu, which consisted of sandwiches, pasta, and other typical lunch options). I didn't see a lot of drink options on the menu, but it did look like they had a huge fridge full of soda, and bottled waters). All in all, was pleasantly surprised by my visit! read more

Really adorable cafe. My girlfriend and I decided to stop by for a quick breakfast; I ordered the French Toast, since they use some of their own bread for it. It was a really simple, but well-executed dish. For the price point, I thought Panes was an extremely good deal; I also left feeling pretty full, as it was a generous amount of food. We also picked up a loaf of their Chocolate Chip Banana bread, which we later took turns devouring at home. It was still warm when we bought it, which really emphasized that "homemade" quality! I enjoyed the food - spicy chicken sandwich, key lime pie and coffee very much. What I hated was the difficulty I had getting into and out of the restaurant. I use a rollator or a cane when out and about. Without one of them, I am very unstable and can't be independent. I had to negotiate two steep high steps up to get into the restaurant. I was using my rollator and couldn't lift the rollator onto the step, and balance the rollator and myself on the step while stepping up to the next step. Even if there had been handrails, the task was impossible without the help of a compassionate human. I never could have entered the restaurant without the help of a staff member who happened to notice my struggle. When I left, I had to rely on the help of a fellow diner who happened to stop as he was leaving to help me. Because of the access problem, I will never return and must recommend that anyone who relies on aids to totally avoid this place. My review star rating reflects my decision to never return. I can recommend this place for only the able bodied. I'd give it three stars for the able-bodied only. read more

Fillings were skimpy and the tomato bread was incredibly dry. The only thing saving it was the avocado. Flavor was also bland. I ordered the last banana bread on the shelf and that was also so bad. It was so dense and dry I had to force myself to taste the banana flavor. The only moderately decent item was the monster cookie. So much for being a "bread cafe". Additionally, there were only 2 parties inside the store (me and another group of 4) and it took almost half an hour just to get my sandwich. Awesome sandwich spot with out-of-this-world bread. I have gotten many of their sandwiches but by far my favorite is the popular chicken on their tomato cheesy bread. I'm typically the type of sandwich person who cares more about the actual contents and meats of a sandwich but it's the bread at Pane's that really stands out. They also have awesome breakfast sandwiches that come with awesome home fries. You honestly can't go wrong with any of their sandwiches and you can get breakfast anytime of day which is yet another plus. Price is reasonable compared to a lot of other places in the city, especially since they give you chips on the side with your sandwich. The place is always crowded so definitely call ahead if you're planning on taking out. It's nice to eat their if you plan on doing that but just know that there aren't a lot of tables and it can be difficult to find a seat during peak lunch hours. read more
