For probably the first time ever, I am sorry that I chose to go to Panera Bread in Wilkes Barre, Pa. I went in at 9:30 for breakfast. When I went to the counter, the young man did not acknowledge me. He instead decided to put gloves on and start stocking some bakery items. Then when he was done while I waited for him, he went to the register and just stood there. Still no hello, no "may I help you". I had to push up against the counter and just started to order hoping that this dude with no smile, no energy, and no customer service skills was actually taking my order. I ordered the Farmhouse duo sandwich and got a bottle of OJ from the cooler. He then told me a total without even asking if I had Panera rewards. I had to tell him and it seemed like it was a bother. He said "Punch your number in on the screen." No thank you no life. I was just an inconvenience. Beyond his poor service, the sandwich did not live up to the quality of a McDonald's breakfast sandwich that I could have gotten for half the price. So disappointing! At 9:30am multiple tables were dirty, and I don't think it was from this morning- if you know what I mean. This was a big surprise. I have never been disappointed at this location before, and I have never been so disappointed in any restaurant visit in a long long time. I think it will be a long time before I visit there or any other Panera Bread again. So irritated. I ordered in the drive-through. Asked for the cookie and brownie to be warmed up. Staff replied "yes, sure". Was handed the food but both were cold. I went inside and asked for them to be warmed up, the lady told me they do not warm up items and was directed to the microwave. It's a frustrating situation because communication has lost somewhere. I got my free drinks here (as a member of the sip free club). Service was fairly fast and looked organized. When I was ordering my drink in the afternoon, the kiosk gave me a pop up for a $2 pastry which is a nice deal! I'm sad the charged lemonades are gone from here. Hello food crew! Today video I did meet up with a couple to book a future wedding with Simple Ceremonies of Noreast Pa. After we were done, they had some last-minute things to do in preparation for their big day so I decided to stay and do a food review. Now It was lunch time and I was really hungry for some type of sandwich, well they do not offer any type of ham sandwiches, so I decided to get the pepperoni mozzarella melt. It had of course pepperoni and the mozzarella served toasted. Now I was checking out the sides to which did not have anything that caught my eye. They do not have sides like potato or macaroni salads; however, they do give you a side of chips, just an f.y.i I am not a chip fan. This is the first time I've been in the rebuilt Panera and they did a fantastic job. It's very open and there is a lot of seating. You can order on the screen when you first walk in or go over to the counter to place your order with one of the very friendly cashiers. I had the pick two - Asian chicken salad and steak and white cheddar. The bread was super fresh. The cold green tea I had was so good I filled my cup up a few times! You can also order on the app and there is a "Rapid Pick Up" area for you to walk right in and pick up your order. Decent food and very convenient. read more

Being from Saint Louis, the start of Panera, I like this place. Good selection of desserts, quick and semi-accurate food prep, and spacious enough for the cautious Covid diner. While I read that WB is described as being rundown away from the university, and that the median income is 40k, with average single-family homes at 78k, you wouldn't know it by this Panera. It seems a bastion of hope in a place described as economically depressed that "could've done better" on the website Niche. I'd eat here again. read more

I got a call to confirm our reservation and was told to call back with our order a few days before. I called back 2 days before (like they said) and they said that they can't honor the reservation and that they don't do those kind of reservations. I got a confirmation TWICE. You can literally make dishes just as good or better at home at a lower price. I will give them credit that they have a cozy atmosphere and friendly staff. But it's not all that great. I wish this economy wasn't so lazy to cook healthier and cheap meals at home. I believe this location may be closed due to the storm a while back. I don't know for sure - the description was labeled closed so that's what I'm assuming. It was a while back but I still want my other half of my sandwich. I gave this place to try on two occasion once in the drive-through taking well over 30 minutes the other time I dined in and the place was so dirty I almost wanted to leave I'll never go back here again the staff is a bunch of people who don't care. Visited two locations in the Wilkes-Barre area over the weekend and saw the same thing happening twice. Diners are allowed to refill their own cups which seems to be inconsistent with COVID best practices. I'm not a public health official, but every place else has paused the use of refillable mugs. Having diners bring their previously-used cups back to the fountain feels like an unnecessary risk to me. read more

Let's face it Panera is a massive chain with more than 2,000 locations. However, one thing you can always count on is the food is always going to taste the same no matter which location you go to. This is a good thing for those coming in the morning for bagels, coffee and pastries, and also those arriving at lunch for a salad or sandwich. One thing I've learned in the dozens of Panera locations we've been to across the country is that everything is average. There's nothing to complain about, but there's nothing that's going to blow you away either. And that's a good thing. There's so many chains that are out there that offer such poor food and nothing on the menu that tastes good. That's not going to happen here. One thing that we appreciated with this particular location is that the staff was well-trained and knew the menu well. The service was excellent and our breakfast items and lunch sandwiches for the day were to us in only a few minutes. They also got our order correct, which made us all happy. This is a frequent stop on our long long drive to Florida. Got here at about 12:30 for lunch & it was packed. We frequent Panera quite often at home and like this one too as it is located right off the interstate. DH & I had Pick 2... tomato soup and fresh bread for me & DH had turkey with apple slices and cheese. He said it was good but sloppy had to get a fork to eat up what fell out.. but all in all it was good & would definitely stop again on our journeys south. read more

I typically don't like to leave bad reviews especially Now with staffing being limited and things changing after the pandemic but service here is incredibly subpar, not just on one occasion but on multiple times that i have been there. I placed an order online after i completed my order it stated that it would be ready at 2:43..i placed the order at 2:25 so i figured that was adequate time to complete my order that contained 2 kids grilled cheese, Mac and cheese, a sandwich, a salad and a large iced green tea. I arrived at approximately 2:45 and saw my order was being prepared as indicated by the screen. I waited for my order for approx. 25 minutes. There were many staff members working behind the counter preparing food and packaging food for to go and dine in orders..I'd say they were staffed adequately ( i previously worked at this location prior to the tornado that destroyed it so i can pretty well gauge staffing) . Being that there were a fair amount of staff working on orders i will say that they seemed very unmotivated to expedite the delivery of orders to customers and took their time. There was a woman who appeared to be a manager, she had a gold name tag, that seemed to disregard the numerous tickets present on the screens. When i worked there it was priority to get orders out in a timely manner..that ideal must of gone with the tornado because it was non-existent. Managers would help staff to clear the screen and get customers their orders. This manager was more distracted by what appeared to be her boyfriend who came to dine at the restaurant and stepped away from the line and was talking and flirting with him instead of helping out her employees. Without a great captain this ship will sink. Multiple people seemed to be getting irritated with the wait for their food items. I will say the quality of the food is great and accuracy of orders is spot on. I hope they can figure out a solution to their delay in preparing and delivering orders if they can do that then they will be great! read more

Upon reaching of the shores of this metaphorical Hades, I wave weakly to Charon, mutely conveying that yes, I have done this again, yes I've paid to be here - yes some woman wanted to go, even though I insisted it would be like stepping on the tormented howling faces of my long dead relatives once I stepped foot into the pseudo-urban-cafe environment. The menu is all riddles. Sometimes you think you can maybe just get a Turkey Sandwich and some soup and get out with your dignity - but there's always something, always some phantasm flying in the corner -- beckoning to you. A broken and beaten soul made up of ingredients that should have never been forged together. It's arms perhaps Salami, it's legs a whole piece of ginger, it's brain - coffee? What is that? Why is it on a sign, why would I ever dare to eat that? What corporate schlep insisted that this is what needed to be added to Panera's menu, what monster decided that this should replace a Turkey Sandwich.... By the time you sit down, there are men and women -- visages of pain, they hide here from their children, from their husbands and wives, they talk in hushed tones about divorce, about the horror of taking the kid's to soccer, they do it with such an air of self-importance, it's nearly suffocating. You get through your soup, burning your tongue, because the sensation is leaving your legs and you really don't think you'll get out of this dining experience alive... You put your dishes in a trash can, something you assumed someone would have done for you, but it's all smoke in mirrors, you aren't where you think you are - it's a Wendy's with Soup, and you crawl your way back to Charon, and he ferries you back to life. You then argue with whatever woman your with, about why you had to act like that in Panera Bread -- and all you can mutter, all you can try to reason is: "Why is Panera Bread?" read more

While I was here I observed a cashier call a customer up, and after beginning to take their order the manager quite literally ordered the cashier to start wiping tables (this despite a line almost out the door). The man stopped taking the order, apologized to the customers and left them standing there. The manager didn't even do that. Then, they got my order wrong and the prep person acted like a toddler when I asked them to correct it (I asked for to go, they had it on a plate). She slapped my sandwhich into a box, half it's contents falling out, stormed off. Hi all. Short and sweet. Bottom 3 of all Paneras I have visited. Clerk taking my order didn't say hello. Didn't answer when I asked how she was. I'm guessing she was a robot with a malfunctioning AI. Siri is friendlier. Soup was lukewarm at best. Sandwich and apple were OK. Tea looked more like water than tea. Guess they are reusing the leaves. That's all I've got. I don't typically leave reviews but after my experience at the Panera in WilkesBarre today I believe its warranted. This is by far the absolute WORST Panera I have ever been to. It looks beautiful since it has been redone from the tornado but don't let that fool you. The service is an absolute nightmare and the food is god awful. They have kids working there who don't look like they know their right from their left, let alone how to make food. They should be shut down. I waited 40 minutes from my food AFTER I waited 25 minutes to order. No one took my order (despite staring at me as I stood at the counter waiting) so I had to use the kiosk. They were out of cups at the kiosk and no one was available to ask for them when I went back to the counter. Then, my fiancé wanted food as I was leaving so I got in the drive through line (only 3 cars in front of me) and waited 45 minutes. Their drive through is built in such a way that you can't pull out or leave until your practically ready to pay. So I just had to sit there. Pathetic excuse for an establishment. read more

Out of hard boiled eggs, an ingredient in the feature salad! Get your act together, this is a high volume store no excuses.
