Far East Grain Bowl
Kate F.

Every year when I'm visiting my parents for the holidays, my cousin and I venture out in the WB area for some shopping and inevitably crave a healthier lunch option after our heavy holiday meals. I was really happy to find that Red Leaf opened a location in the Arena Hub plaza. Parking is easy since it's in a shopping center. We arrived during prime lunchtime and found just 1-2 people ahead of us in line, and the line moved fairly quickly. You can choose from multiple signature salad or grain bowl options, or you can opt to create your own bowl. All salads are also available as wraps. On this particular visit, I chose the Far East grain bowl: spinach, quinoa, broccoli, carrots, edamame, oranges, and almonds with a carrot ginger dressing. At the first station, an employee piled all of my toppings into a bowl, making sure to ask me if I wanted to change or add anything to their predesigned bowl. There were several stations where multiple other employees were waiting to better mix the bowls using a mezzaluna. After chopping all the ingredients, I was asked which dressing I wanted --- I replied that I wanted the one that the bowl came with, but the employee wasn't able to remember the correct dressing, needing to flag down another worker to ask. It might be beneficial for them to post the dressings that correspond to the different salads at the mezzaluna station for employee and/or customer to see. My bowl was delicious, and the mezzaluna is clutch in creating a dish that allows you to get all of the various flavors in one bite. It was fresh, colorful, tasty, and impressively affordable --- coming in under $9 for a vegetarian bowl with plenty of fresh veggies. Definitely a great deal! Similarly, my cousin designed her own wrap, which was big enough for her to take half home. I did see a few folks come in and pick up online orders and it seemed to go smoothly, though reviews here suggest it may not always be a time-saver. Absolutely will keep Red Leaf in mind for any future quick lunches in the WB area.

Stopped here for a quick lunch before shopping. It is like a salad works only Way better and fresher. Server was friendly who got the ingredients for my wrap the girl who put my wrap together was miserable. Wish they wore name tags so I knew who it was. Wrap was super good I got the power wrap. I also got tomatoes soup. Too creamy for me, but ok. The guy forgot to include a soon for my to go order luckily I had a spoon in my car. Overall I will def be back and excited a healthy fresh option is in the area!

We are sometimes skeptical that a restaurant with an extensive, many-page menu spanning multiple…read moregenres/ethnicities of food may not be able to do it all well. But the Red Dot seems to nail every single dish. We started with the multigrain vegan waffle with fresh fruit and loved it! So clean and flavorful, with perfectly ripe fruit. I do think the fruit should have been included, because it would have been a bit plain without it. Next, we had the ancient grains kitchari which was incredible. We loved all the fresh vegetables perfectly cooked, adding a variety of textures and flavors. It is offered as mild, medium, or hot; we got hot, which was great but not overly spicy, and we might request extra spicy next time. Lastly, we got the breakfast paratha wrap filled with their incredible tofu scramble. We were so impressed by how non-greasy it was (both the paratha and the scramble). We are always looking for food that isn't overly salty or oily, which is hard to find, but the Red Dot managed to do everything perfectly. Also major props to their masala chai, made super fresh with your choice of milk. The soy milk was creamy and pleasantly sweet and it didn't even require adding sugar. So rare to find vegan masala chai. The food takes fairly long to come out, but we felt it was worth it because of how delicious everything was; we also appreciated the generous portions. I think we have found one of our new favorite restaurants!

There's a bathroom that's a little narrow, but it was clean. When I first walked in, I was starving and a bit tired, so I ordered their peppermint latte. It was absolutely delicious--creamy, smooth, and perfectly warm. I've seen other reviews mentioning that their drinks were served cold, but mine was just right. I loved it so much I ended up ordering a second one. For food, I started with their coconut yogurt granola parfait. I didn't expect it to be anything special, but it turned out to be the best coconut yogurt parfait I've ever had. It was sweet--but not too sweet--and perfectly balanced. Next, I ordered the gluten-free waffles topped with a fruit compote, along with a side of their Bed Head hash and vegan bacon. Everything was incredibly flavorful. I couldn't believe how delicious it all tasted. My friend got the chicken and waffles and enjoyed his meal just as much. I loved it so much that I came back one more time after that--and, of course, I had to get the waffles again. The food here is outstanding, and I recommend it to everyone, whether you're vegan or not. Just keep in mind that the space is small, they don't take reservations, and street parking is limited--you may want to arrive a few minutes early to find a spot. Overall, it's an amazing place. Definitely give it a try.

It was 10 by the time we decided to call it and ask about if the food was coming or not. However, we had a pretty simple order, French toast and a biscuit. We saw two tables have their order sent back for different reasons, one got their order wrong and the second admitted their menu was written incorrectly. We waited 45 minutes for our food and in that time saw two tables that came after get their food before us. We were told the kitchen was backed up and they had no idea when it would come out. They had one chef doing all of the cooking and that really slowed them down. We understand waiting, but the lack of service or communication did it. Plus we were charged for the coffee at double the price. Their menu said chai latte was $3 or 3.50 and it was nearly $7. Such a lie and clearly quite a bit needs to be worked out here. They can communicate the wait so people know what to expect. Cannot recommend anyone come here even though the food looked good. Horrible staff and do not tell you about the wait.

First time stopping by this restaurant (located on the back street of where google map directs)…read more The food was delicious! Sophia is in her 70s and is the owner, chef, waitress all-in-one. After making my takeout order she talked with me for 20 minutes about her family, business (has operated this restaurant for 53 years!), and travels.
