So I placed an order on the Panero bread mobile app for delivery. Shortly thereafter I received a message that my order has been canceled without any reason given. I called the Panera bread location at Marsh Ave on Staten Island and spoke to "Donna" who stated that she would look into it. Donna said that I would be reimbursed. My credit card was charged $28.50. Donna refunded me a portion of the charge of $20.23. When I called and asked Donna why was I reimbursed a portion of my total charge she simply stated that's all that she could refund me with a very rude attitude. She said the markup charges of DoorDash (who does their deliveries) and tip would not be refundable. This was unacceptable to me. Why should I be charged $28.50 for a product and service that was not delivered and only partially reimbursed? If Donna was not able to "technically "refund me the difference there should have been some sort of concession made whether it be free food or a discount towards a future purchase. Instead I had a "manager" raise her voice to me with other patrons watching. I realize that anyone can have a bad day but someone in a managerial capacity should be able to hold their composure and conduct themselves professionally when dealing with customers. Straightforward, somewhat healthy meals and "you pick 2" combos. Wish they could expand into the now closed pet store next door as it's almost always busy, but table turnover is fairly fast. Have had the lobster sandwich, isn't that great. Lobster doesn't taste as fresh as compared to offerings in the city and Brooklyn like Luke's/Red Hook Lobster Pound etc., but it's sorta expected with a chain. What is there really to say about Panera. Staff is always helpful and friendly. It gets very crowded here and they move along quickly. Tables can be hard to come by so be prepared to stand around holding your food until a table opens up. Often a lot of the tables are taken by people who aren't eating but meet there to play board games etc. so that can be tedious since they sit there for hours. The fresh brewed ice teas are always refreshing year round and state to state. This trip I tried the seasonal corn chowder. It's very thin unlike most chowdas, which I liked. But it didn't have much flavor to speak about and it's 99% corn kernels. The Asiago bagel bagel toasted with cream cheese, never had disappointed me. It's always a safe bet no matter where the location is. The desserts are nothing to speak of. Something that's always annoyed me is you never know what's on the sandwiches with exception of the protein. I find this to be a glaring problem across the board with Panera Bread locations. The only way to have an idea of what's on it is to go to the app and press the order now button and you can kinda find it there but that's asking a lot of your customers who want a quick bite. The onion soup, the gargantuan vegetable and black bean soup are always a good choice. I thoroughly enjoy them. The best thing here is the Asian wonton broth bowl. It's light refreshing, the ginger is very present and I love ginger. I get this most often but the tortilla soup broth bowl I really didn't care for. This place is trash. I asked for cheddar and provolone cheese on my grilled cheese and extra cheese at that because I know the bread they use is thick so I wanted to even out the bread cheese ratio. They end up giving me American cheese and not cheddar, provolone they got right but no extra cheese. The best part? They burnt my cheese. With that bad grilled cheese I got bad service. I can't tell you how many times the check out lady told me that the extra cheese would cost more as if I expected it to come free with the sandwich. This Panera is horrible and I'm let down every time I go. First off, there's an option for mobile order, curbside pickup, where they are supposed to bring it out to your car. Was ignored by the lady at the counter when I went back in. Ignored by the manager as I waited 10 minutes for a CUP OF SAUCE that was supposed to be in the bag anyway. We waited 20 minutes, and after we didn't see our food, we asked the register and counter if they had an order under my name. They both said they had my order and it would be prepared. In the past few years, the area in which I work has begun to change and turn vacant storefronts to nice little restaurants. One of those restaurants is Panera Bread, who is one of the top rated "fast-food" places in America. I read that somewhere, good fact to have. When Panera first opened up near the Staten Island Mall, everyone from my job was sweating this place like they gave you a bar of gold with every meal. I didn't come here until all the hype was gone. Pretty much, Panera is your upper class sandwich place. They have their panini and choice sandwiches, coffee, pastries, and other things a place with the word Bread in their name would have. If you ever come here, you'd be overwhelmed in the way the menu works. The popular thing is the "You Pick Two" - in which you pick a sandwich (you only get 1/2 of it) AND a Salad OR a soup and a side. Beginners think it is Sandwich, Soup, and Salad, but it is not. The "You Pick Two" is roughly $7. You don't get a drink with either, so that adds to the price, but you do get free refills. Yay. The sandwiches aren't Subway/Quizno/Blimpie sized, but they'll do especially if you have a soup or salad to enjoy with it. So yeah, Panera is a bit pricey. The meals are hearty though. I don't walk out still hungry, but I still feel a bit underwhelmed. 1/2 Sandwich, Bowl Of Soup, an apple, and a Mango Smoothie that all together is $13. Man...at least it isn't McDonald's. Oh yeah, they give you WiFi too - but you can't eat that. I can go here, but only if I don't want to walk to pizzeria or don't want to browse the supermarket - otherwise I don't come frequently. Panera Bread is a good place to come to for lunch if you're in the area. I've never really had anything from here that I didn't like. I usually go with the pick 2, where you get soup and half a sandwich. Their soups are really good. I love the broccoli and cheddar, and french onion. The roast beef on asiago bread is so good. I used to love coming here. The people were nice and the staff was friendly, food was excellent. But the staff recently has changed....and drastically. I mean, I don't want you touching my plate and cup after you just sweeped the floor. I don't want you touching the inside of my cup with your five inch long nails with glitter on them. And recently they don't understand what a roll is, because I asked for a sourdough roll and they gave me a bread bowl. Really? And they just remodeled and the walls look totally blank.
