I ordered the Time Out (warm roast beef, mozz, sauteed onion and gravy $16)... The second time I ordered it, I got the dark delicious gravy on the side. No flavor in all 3 sandwiches we ordered and small portions. Chicken vodka sandwich was dry with not enough sauce to even taste, ribeye sandwich tasted only like the cheese, and sausage sandwich tasted like cardboard. Bread was good though. And they didn't give me the extra side of sauce I ordered and paid for. Not a big deal, but it adds salt to the wound. read more

Sandwiches made to perfection!! Ordered the Anthony's and the homemade roast pork was so juicy and tender and went perfectly with the sharp provolone and hot peppers. The bread was perfectly crispy and held its structure despite the stock. Also ordered the panino mortadella which was also perfection. The bread was reminiscent of what I've had in Italy with generous portions of burrata, mortadella and pistachio pesto. Service was quick but we also went on a Friday at 7:30pm. There is a small counter along the window with a few seats for dining in. Both sandwiches were very sizable and were plenty to share amongst three people. Last week she sent me a picture of Shrimp po boy which she said it was a great and tasty sandwich. I was craving one of your sandwich (I live in New Jersey) took a ride over to my cousins house and we ordered 3 different types of sandwiches which all were great.. If it wasn't for the cost of going over the Outerbridge Crossing I would go there every day to get something to eat. I don't know where to begin with this place!!!! The food is amazing & every sandwich is made with the utmost attention & love. Of course, I have my favorites & my go-tos. The others that I've sampled have all been good, but certain ones just strike you perfectly! There's a consistent lunch crowd here, so you know the food is moving & none of the ingredients have been sitting around. We're so glad we stopped by after visiting the cemetery. I highly recommend the #13 Maria, Staten Island Italy a la vodka and the Phil Leonardo. Other family members ordered their build your own and did the mozzarella and roasted red peppers and we all loved our sandwiches. I wish we had this quality on the west coast. We came in to try the porchetta which is a must to have. Pork , broccoli rabe , fresh mozzarella and pecorino crema. We moved from SI to TN last year, my wife follows his sandwich making FB videos. Today we ordered sandwiches, 4 in total. One cold: the Luigi; and three hot: the Gino, the Joey Muscle and the special of a Ruben pastrami (on a hero). It was for a pick up and the total order with a tip was $90. Three of the four sandwiches were good and I was looking forward to my pastrami but when we sat to have them, immediately after pick up, I was highly disappointed. A lot of people have said that the pastrami was fantastic here but I have to say, it was truly horrible. The meat was extremely dry and tasteless. I thought I was me, but my family tasted it also and agreed with me. This sandwich cost the most at $21.50. I threw away the entire thing. I really wanted to like this spot. I really did. It just wasn't in the cards. Staten Island is filled with amazing Pizza. Close to the best pizza in the USA from just this island. I know all about the history of the Brooklyn Italian Americans and their diaspora across the Verrazano to the Island. That explains why pizza is elite in Shaolin, which also explains why the only NYC borough are full of Trumpers. As for the roast beef sangwich game, it's not yet up to speed. I don't know what it is with Italian delis trying their hand in the roast beef game, but every roast beef sandwich I've eaten from an Italian deli are either mid or trash. I've tried every roast beef/mozz/gravy from Hoboken to Hackensack and Brooklyn to Staten Island. I watched all the Staten Island food TikToks from the Scarlotta twins to Cug. Anthony's was top of their list. Anytime I decide to cross the Bayonne Bridge, I have to decide if it's worth the toll, so Denino's would be the 1st reason why I would cross. Today, I decided to bypass Denino's and try either Royal Crown Bakery or Anthony's. Cug said Anthony's is the spot so I rolled the dice. Anthony seems to be a good guy and I'm sure his other sandwiches are elite, but roast beef with caramelized onions did not hit. I took my RB to the Mall to eat in the food court. At first smell, it was odd. It already didn't smell like I was going to enjoy it. I cracked it open and the first thing I noticed was a burnt roll. I was going to ask them to toast it before making the sandwich but I hesitated and just let Anthony do his thing. I would commend myself for not asking because it would have been burnt beyond had I asked. The question I have is, why would he even make a sandwich with that trash roll? I'm truly offended that my $18 wasn't good enough for him to assume this wasn't the product that he wanted his customers to experience. I don't know if it's the way the onions were caramelized or if the gravy was the cause of the unpleasant smell/taste. Either way, I have no idea why this would be mentioned in the NY Times. I had to throw away the other half. Nothing was salvageable. I'm going to stick with Jersey sandwiches and only cross the Bayonne for Denino's, Lee's, and Jimmy Max's. G's is legit though. read more

Anthony's is one of those deli's that mixes the old school classic sandwiches with a modern feel. Small shop but packs a punch. The roast beef with carmelized onions and gravy was my jam. So good. I am used to having fiore's in hoboken and this one may not be that but it is in the ballpark. The voc with chicken cutlet, capicola, and gardiniera was my other choice. So good. Nice combo of spicy, tangy, fatty deliciousness. The bread has a nice crunch to it but thin layer of crunch rather than break your tooth or scratch the top of your mouth style bread. I got the 2 Guns sandwich which was an amazing choice it wasn't over packed with meat which is good it's not too overpowering with one meat all of them come together in this sandwich perfectly. the price is worth it with the quality of meat it's not no store brand crap.
