This is a Busy place with people of all ages. It would be interesting to do a poll of how many are here to conduct business, work off site from their job, or a social visit with friends. The place was filthy dirty. Trash overflowing, carpet hadn't been vacuumed in a LONG time, tables not clean. A bird must have gotten caught between the first and second entry door because there was poop on the glass with fleathers here and there. The smell was disgusting between the two doors. We had a Panera gift card that their machine "couldn't read". Huh? No manager to help the poor guy taking our order try to figure out why the machine wouldn't take our Panera card. What's the point of ordering ahead in your slick app when you end up having to wait 30 minutes in the drive-through to pick it up?

We stopped by for a coffee. They sold us the coffee, but all of the coffee dispensers were empty. Finally, the girl told us they would make some! Fifteen minutes later, I went up to check on it. The girl ran back and then told me, they forgot to start the coffee. I asked for a refund, but she said she couldn't give refunds by herself and she would have coffee up in just 5 minutes. I ordered a half dozen bagels from Panera through DoorDash on 8.18.25. I got them within 20 minutes. I immediately put them in a Ziplock bag to preserve the freshness, but noticed when I was doing that, that they were really hard. I figured that I could warm them to soften them up. I was wrong. (An entree) I purposefully waited to make sure I had everything, after they handed me the bag, and the lady at the window just walked away, so I assumed that was it. First the coffee is so hot you cannot drink it for half an hour. Now it is barely warm to the touch when they hand you the cup and it tastes like it was left over from the morning rush. Also at least every third time I come here in the afternoon they are out of bagels. They do make sandwiches out of bagels do they not? Plus it is one of their feature baked products isn't it. The strawberry poppy chicken salad was fantastic. I substituted spinach instead of romaine lettuce which was a smart choice for flavor and nutrition. At first thought I was worried it had too much fruit. After getting it I say it's perfect and creates a different flavor with each bite. I really enjoyed the chai tea both hot and cold. They gave me the option of adding a sweat treat for one dollar which I thought was given the cost of the meal. I would say the price was a little on the high side but definitely worth it in my eyes with how flavorful everything was. The cinnamon scone was a little on the dry side but had some really good flavor. Restaurant was very clean. The girls at the counter were extremely friendly and seemed to really enjoy recommending items and explaining ways to substitute certain things. You get a possible side of covid-19 if you visit this Springfield location. The children preparing the food consider their facemasks optional...after I ate I witnessed a young woman preparing food with her mask pulled down to her chin. If she happens to be a covid-19 carrier, she was breathing it out of her mouth and nose over all the food she was packing for in-restaurant and take-out diners. Unfortunately I saw this after I had eaten or I would have walked out without accepting my food order. Do not believe the "no contact" method will protect you when the food workers do not cover their mouths or noses if they don't feel like wearing their mask properly. I have had Panera Bagels many times before and I absolutely loved them...until now. I've always had them at work, I never bought them until today. I went to the drive-up window at White Oaks West in Springfield, IL. I told her which bagels I wanted and she asked if I wanted them sliced for toasting. I said yes I wanted them sliced. What I got were bagels that had a very thin slice taken off half of the bottom and toasted. I could have put up with the bad slice job but I didn't want them toasted then, I would toast them at home. But what they did could not even be called toasting, they were burnt black. They were so hard we couldn't bite into most of it. The inside of the thick part was all we could eat and threw away the rest. IF I ever buy bagels there again, I will tell them DO NOT SLICE THEM AND DO NOT TOAST THEM! The counter clerk was quick and friendly in preparing my Sierra Turkey Bravo for "here," and a loaf of sourdough and a cobblestone pastry "to go." Very quick service. If you are looking for a consistently good meal, you will find it at this Panera. I am always floored at how expensive it can be to feed a family of 4 at Panera. One tip to help combat this is to 1) order water (no brainer) and 2) order the large size items and split between people. The issues I've experienced seem to be with their order accuracy and the Management's ability to communicate with their team members. Mrs S here... I waffled about where to go for lunch and decided on this place based on their bean soup and caprese sandwich. When we arrived, they did not have my soup today. I was ready to leave at that point but Ben made the point that since we were so ambivalent in the first place I should just find something here and be done. The cashier overheard this, suggested a different soup, and offered to let me sample all of them until I found one I was happy with. Then she informed Ben that he qualified for a free espresso drink or smoothie. He deferred to me and I wasn't sure what to pick. The cashier again suggested one that she likes and backed it up with an offer to comp it and replace it if I didn't like it. I ended up with a pick two combo of caprese panini, chicken noodle soup, and a super fruit smoothie. Food was up to par as usual; it was the service that made the visit remarkable.
