You have to wait online now I'm being told I can only pick up for one other person I don't understand when I purchase food I can purchase as many dinners or items as I want and can pick up for all the people. Why am I only being allowed to pick up one other drink for one other Person, everyone holes a special shipper unlimited club membership everyone pays for it if it was not paid for the number would not go through the machine and it would not be validated it would not come up on the screen, so why must a handicap senior citizen come out walk through the store. Wait online because they never have rapid pick up when I can pick up for them. This is the stupidity of this woman and the manager. Imagine this ... you walk into a place and order a cup of soup, a half of a salad, and a small iced tea ... BAM!!!! 14 bucks gone on lunch - I left feeling slightly hungry and with my wallet with almost no money. I will say this, in general the place is clean and at the busy time the manager was walking around cleaning up tables and such. The bathroom smelled of those delightful pink urinal cakes and was otherwise pleasant. There is a parking lot which under normal circumstances is good in Queens, but you can't get in or out due to construction. It literally took me 12 minutes to get out of the parking lot. The food is typical Panera, but the soup wasn't hot, somewhere around Luke warm which equates to being getting a nicely wrapped Christmas present and there's socks in it ... and not the nice comfy expensive ones but the ones that irate your feet and create a nasty cheese smell when you take them off at the end of the day. Also, the last time I was waiting for my food the microwave panini press they use had definitely not been cleaned that day. It had a strange brown color ... you can imagine what I was reminded of. The clientele in this place is interesting. Beside the chess club (I like chess, just not to watch while I'm eating my overpriced meal) that meets at all hours and times and the freeloaders that are there sucking up the free wifi, this is a classy bunch of folks frequenting this spot. This location is pretty busy on the weekends but that does not change the speed of service or friendliness of the employees. My cashier, Merry, was personable and quite a character. She reminded me of my nana I was able to empty out my gift cards and see the remaining balance on the last one after my purchase. The soup was fresh and hot, ready and served up on about 7 minutes. The manager was really awesome because he told me that I could pick out a couple of pastries if I would like. I opted for two cinnamon rolls that me and my wife enjoyed the following day. If not for the wonderful company of a neighbor who chose our breakfast location, my review would have pointed the dirty end of the stick at another link in the corporate food chain of errors and mishaps. It's a sad trend that is irreversible at this point, but we the consumer have allowed this to occur by not sticking by our smaller business, instead selling our for a few nickels and coagulated arteries. The ham & swiss souffle was quite enjoyable, but at over four dollars each, the three inch circular souffle was not worth the price, its the size of a golf hole. I'm amazed how the eggs remained so warm, moist and tasty sitting on a non temperature controlled counter. The wonders & marvels of modern food science I suppose. The Asiago Cheese bagel was barely toasted as I ordered it, not a brown toasted spot to be seen and it was difficult to get excited about cream cheese served in a sealed plastic container, that's so sad. You hear your order somewhere in the loudness, you go over to pick it up, and food that may or may not be yours just sits there for a moment as you wait for one employee to be available for just one second to confirm that this is indeed your order. A lack of communication is always an F in my book. The food has been mostly above average; the quality is there. The cheddar broccoli soup is to die for (4 / 5) and the sandwiches here and there have been delicious. However, my most recent order was a steak sandwich which was underwhelming. I was excited to get their coffee membership. I do like their tea selection especially and get their light roast coffee. I like dining in their cafe and this is one of the few locations and cafes open in Queen's. But, time and time again my order is not ready when I get there, even if I order ahead through the app. Today at the register the lady was quite rude and flustered. She assumed I wasn't dining in and just gave me my order in a paper bag and my hot tea without a sleeve. I went to the pick up area to ask for a cup sleeve. Returned later to ask for a plate. I love Panera! The experience here just wasn't the best because of the kiosk. My app wasn't working for some reason and the line was really long so we decided to use the kiosk. It didn't offer all the options and we didn't know that. We order a flat bread thinking it would be one whole order but it came as a half(half meaning just one. Two is a whole). We were use to getting the whole order so I went to the cashier to let her know and the cook told them that's correct. I looked up at the menu and noticed the option for one or two/ half or whole. Well it didn't -obviously but it locked my card for some reason. I never got the refund.. going to wait a few more days. The cashier seemed very frustrated as if it was my fault and then mentioned that I used the kiosk wrong and it was my fault. I thought that was rude because the other workers knew it was the kiosk. I was trying to figure out why my card wasn't working for less than $10 and she kept saying she needs to take other customers when whatever she did froze my card. I had just used it for the entire order on the kiosk. But it wasn't her issue so it made the experience worst that I had to get off the line and come back and rejoin the line after finding out my card was frozen or something because of the double transaction. Which has never happened before ever! We spent about $60 in food and she kept asking me was I sure I want it- implying I didn't have the money. But I was able to just use my Apple Pay because I didn't have any other cards on me. Unfortunately just after I ordered my brownie and cinnamon bun I noticed a fly had landed on one of the other pastries. It was at that point that I realized that none of the pastries are covered. Let me start by saying the only reason I give it one star is because the staff was nice enough. Well, that and I can't give 0 stars. When my brother suggested to go here, I said yes, as I had never gone & have heard good things about it. When we got there, it was fairly empty, so me & my fiance looked at the menu, trying to decide what to get. It was a bit confusing as to how to order or what was in the foods you were ordering. We stood there for about 10 seconds before a man started calling us over. I assumed he was the manager, and he was very nice, although we were still trying to decide what to get. It would have been nice to be given some time. Assuming the Italian sandwich would be a nice, thick hero sandwich, filled with lots of meats & some cheese, and after the man told me it had two types of salami & provolone cheese, I decided on that. Well, a half sandwich, along with their cup of soup in their "deal". Was given the choice between chips, an apple or bread. Since the place is called Panera Bread, I went with the baguette. My fiance decided on a half turkey sandwich & the salad. She got an apple with her "deal". We both got a drink & the whole thing came to almost $30. A bit steep, I thought, but considering the reputation of the place, I thought it would be worth it. Boy, was I wrong. Let's start with the soup. I got chicken noodle. It was lukewarm, contained maybe 3 slices of carrots, about a dozen noodles & possibly 3 tiny pieces of chicken. It was also bland. Every component of the soup was bland. No flavor whatsoever. It probably came out of a can as well, which I don't mind, as I've had many cans of chicken noodle soup, all better than this. Next, my sandwich. The sandwich bread was around 4 inches long, 2 & a half inches wide & 2 inches high. The man was right. It had 2 types of salami & provolone cheese. There was exactly one slice of each type of salami & one slice of cheese. The salami slices were no bigger than one of them silver dollars from 1977. The cheese slice was in a triangle shape & slightly bigger than the meat. At Subway, you can get a $5 sandwich that's a foot long. And if anyone tells me that the meat & cheese on this sandwich was any different than Subway's, they're a liar. Looked exactly the same & tasted the same (bad). There was so much extra bread on the sandwich in comparison to the meat/cheese combo, there was no need for the baguette. There was also lettuce on the sandwich & a very sour Italian dressing. The taste overall was pretty bad. That brings us to the baguette. About 3 inches long & an inch wide. Yep, that's it. I dunked it in my soup & ate that. After eating all of them, I was ready for dinner. Which never came, of course. That was it. $15 for maybe $3 worth of mediocre food. My fiance was a little happier with her meal. He sandwich half was actually a half sandwich. She liked her salad, although by looking at it, it seemed very dry. I don't think she wanted to say anything to me about that. In any case, she agreed that what she got was nowhere near a $15 price tag. My brother & his friend got full salads. They both said it was very dry & definitely not enough salad dressing on it. Their salads were supposed to come with a hard boiled egg in them, but did not. Why people rave about this place is beyond me. I mean, I know one reason. Big Organic spreading the lie that organic is better, & GMOs are bad, so they can charge a ridiculous amount of money for almost nothing. This place is a prime example of that. Sickening. This review is for take out orders. The lady's at the counter are nice and not to blame. But the people behind the line who prep and pack food stink in my opinion. I almost got killed today while waiting in line for my coffee. I was half monitoring the line's pace, half perusing the overhead menu; an even 20/80 split.., whoops! Out from nowhere pops out this third cashier, and she barked aloud, "Next on Line!" At this point in time you may keenly be wondering, what the F are you doing in Panera Bread Tony C?? I like to read my book, but I was sleepy so I needed an injection of coffeeeee... Panera Bread is different than your typical (shhhh!, starbucks) coffee shop though. They balance more towards dining. And, what do people do when they're eating? They like to talk, sometimes while they're actually chewing or swallowing too, go figure. So, you'll hear more noise in Panera Bread than you would in your typical (ahem, starbucks) coffee shop. Though, the type of interesting conversations you can eavesdrop on can be quite amusing. What isn't amusing is when they catch you laughing at them. That's when it helps to stare incessantly at your phone or book while you're laughing, pretending that you're laughing at something else. Save! But, then it's not my fault that I can overhear a couple's conversation from 4 tables away (I blame it on bad feng-shui!). I don't really want to hear about his indigestion problem, or her discomforting and ongoing wedgie issue. And, if that wannabe hipster over on table number 4 says, "Oh my God!" one more time, I might start flinging hot coffee, or slapping people. And, why is this (strange) fellow on my right conducting a business call with his mouth full of Chipotle Chicken Panini? I wanted to say to him, "at least have a LITTLE bit of shame!" But, I didn't because, again..., I didn't want to die that day, and he was a lot hairier than I was. Location-wise, this Panera Bread was comforting. I must have loitered there for at least three hours. The space is Huge compared to what I'd find in Elmhurst, Jackson Heights, or Manhattan. And, I discovered that you just pay $2.50 for all-you-can-drink coffee! Interesting that you can get a buzz off 3 cups of coffee. Bathroom situation?, clean and accommodating, all 3 times. Yesterday, I had clicked get directions and followed google maps directions. It lead me to Atlantic Avenue. I was carrying lots of books and walked a lot to only find out that I was taken to a place that was not this restaurant. My friend called me and asked me where I was. Some people are playing chess and some are having a chat. Most are working on something, like a kid I saw was doing homework. The food selection varied and all seemed healthy. Ordered through Panera's site for delivery, I was unaware they use door dash to deliver, the driver calls and says "I got a flat, you can cancel or come pick it up from me" he was supposedly close by so I go to pick it up, call the cell number he gives us and no answer, also no car in the general area with someone in it, after my girlfriend is on the phone for 30 minutes with door dash I decided to go to the Panera location and ask for a manager, what awesome staff there! I love Panera's but this one is a bit of a disappointment. I use to go here a lot to study and to eat. I no longer come here because the environment is too distracting and the service is a bit lacking (though it could be better now, last I went, it had only open for about a month or so). It gets really noisy during most hours as nearby high school students trickle in. Worst part - most of these noisy, rowdy high school students are friends of employees here so they're all just loitering around and talking loudly about sex, school and how so and so heard that someone was "talking shit about them" and how they're going to "f them up" etc... The location attracts the oddest people too...while I think of this place as a cafe, only here for a quick meal and doing some work, I once saw an entire family not only eat dinner here (which isn't entirely that strange) but stayed for another two hours to play Uno (the-obnoxiously-noisy-as-if-was-at-home-kind-of-loud!!)!! uh.... Here is the main reason I won't come back - me and my fiance were sitting at one of the tables against the wall....and out of nowhere a ROACH crawls up on the wall!!!! AHHHHH!!! I lost my appetite and my confidence for the place. I know all restaurants have at least some degree of pests...but the place just opened!!! I loved the food but the roach was just at my eye level and I can't get that image out..... Also, their serving sizes for soups were really inconsistent when I went...the managers knew what they were doing, but some of the other servers were completely lost...one time, I just got half a bowl of soup! Who knows, maybe that problem is resolved by now...Oh yea, coffee isn't that great either...although it's free refills PS - this Panera leaves a bit to be desired, the one in LI is superb in terms of crowd and service. Bottom Line: Not an ideal substitute for Starbucks...if you're looking to get some writing or studying done....food is good if you can get past the fact that there could be a roach on the wall when you're eating read more
