I'm giving this restaurant one star as there isn't an option for zero. My wife is sick so what would be better than Panera Bread Soup? I Placed my order for a drive through pickup, paid and drove to Panera Bread on University which is a few minutes from our house. Upon arrival I found a small 4 door car parked in the entrance to the drive through blocking access. No sign or indication of why the drive thru was blocked. I drove an around front and placed a telephone call to the restaurant. It rang and rang and rang with no answer. I wasn't dressed to go inside this the drive thru order. So I pulled around and backed up to the drive thru window. I couldn't see through so I reached over and found the window unlocked and easily opened. The telephone was still ringing loudly and I could see two people, maybe three, at the other end of the bar talking. Phone ringing loudly. I finally blew my horn and a young black female came to the window and demanded to know if I opened the window. I assured her I opened the window as it appeared no one inside was going to open the window or answer the telephone. Her demeanor was anything but friendly, still stuck on my opening the window. Probably because they had been caught doing nothing, letting the phone ring when they should have been working. I asked what was wrong with you people. This automatically triggered hostility in the young lady, hands on hip, "what do you mean, you people". I told her we weren't going to woke, you people are the people standing in Panera Bread, posing as employees and clearly not doing your job. That's who you people are. Went through the drive through and the guy sounded like he just got out of bed. Tried to order the spinach and bacon soufflé and he didn't know what I was talking about. I had one of the worst customer service experiences yesterday. The woman taking the drive through orders could not have been more rude of customer service focused. After ordering, she didn't acknowledge my order at all and just said 'drive forward'. Not 'Please drive forward' or I'll have your total at the window....etc. At the window she said my total and took my card and handed it back without another work" Then handed me the bag of food. I asked if my waters were in the bag. Pretty abruptly she said "no - i don't have them out yet." then finally handed me the waters and I asked if I could please also have them in a bag. The young man taking orders seemed unsure of himself and it took a long time to even get to order even though there was only one couple in front of us. We finally gave up and ordered with the kiosk, but you have to stand in line to get your cups for beverages, so that negates any benefit you might receive from using it. Typically I adore Panera, but the service was just so terrible that I don't think I'll ever go back to this location. I sat waiting for my order to be taken at the drive thru for nearly 20 minutes after being told to "wait". Eventually I pulled away and gave up but as I pulled out I noticed no one in the drive thru, only 4 cars in the lot, and all of the worker just chatting in the kitchen with a few glued to their phones. It's almost guaranteed that unless you're dining in, they will always forget items. Our first visit to this Panera. We have been to many other locations across the country and have always enjoyed their salads and breads. No one was at the cash register but eventually a man who was restocking the breads came over to help us. Not particularly friendly, acted like we were interrupting his work. Guess he forgot that without customers, restaurants don't stay in business long. He didn't have answers to some fairly simple questions so maybe he was new and needed more training. Anyway we ordered greek salads, a Margherita flatbread. and two hot coffees. The coffee area was not fully stocked and the only carafe there had cold coffee in it. A lady from the food prep area finally came over since the gentleman who took our order was totally baffled about what to do to remedy the matter and told us that she would make fresh coffee.
