- Panecito y Café My girlfriend and I stopped at Panecito y Café while driving through Bakersfield on our way to Los Angeles. After comparing several review sites, we chose this spot because it was conveniently located near the freeway and had a great selection of coffee and baked goods. I'm glad we did because it ended up being an excellent stop. Parking was easy, with plenty of open spaces right in front of the bakery. When we walked in, we were greeted by a very friendly staff. Most of the employees primarily spoke Spanish, which is pretty common for an authentic Mexican bakery. Thankfully my girlfriend speaks Spanish, which made ordering easier, though everyone was still welcoming and helpful. The layout is nice. There's a small dining area on one side, while the other side features the coffee counter, a small selection of Mexican grocery items, and display cases packed with fresh pastries and breads. The selection is impressive. They had conchas, empanadas, croissants, yoyos, polvorones, muffins, churros, cinnamon rolls, pineapple cakes, Mexican donuts, vanilla and pineapple pastries, niño envuelto, cannoli-style pastries, and many other traditional baked goods. I ordered the apple empanada, which was excellent, along with another pastry that my girlfriend explained was topped with a cream cheese and butter mixture covered in sugar. It was incredibly sweet, but absolutely delicious. For drinks, I ordered the large Carlos V iced coffee, and my girlfriend ordered the Duvalín coffee, which is inspired by the popular Mexican candy. We both really enjoyed our drinks. One thing I thought was especially nice is that the specialty coffees come with a small conchita on top, making them an even better value. At around $7.95 for a large, it's a great deal considering you're getting both a specialty coffee and fresh bread. Their coffee menu is extensive. Beyond their specialty drinks, they also offer lattes, cappuccinos, Americanos, mochas, macchiatos, espresso, frappes, hot chocolate, iced hot chocolate, teas, lemonades, aguas frescas, and plenty of flavored syrups like vanilla, hazelnut, brown sugar, cinnamon, caramel, coconut, white chocolate, and chocolate. I also used the restroom during our visit, and it was spotless. It was so clean that I actually went back and told my girlfriend she should use it before we got back on the road because it was one of the cleanest public restrooms we'd come across that day. Overall, this was a fantastic stop. Easy parking, friendly service, clean facilities, excellent coffee, and an outstanding selection of authentic Mexican pastries. I would absolutely stop here again anytime I'm passing through Bakersfield and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great Mexican bakery and coffee shop. read more

Came to try this place on a Sunday morning. We ordered some chilaquiles, and waited an hour for two orders of chilaquiles, absolutely unacceptable. The coffee drinks we ordered were ok. Tried the mazapán, wasn't overly sweet. It's a bit warm inside the location, I'm assuming due to the ovens used to bake the bread. Once the food finally arrived, the presentation was nice and the flavors were good. They forgot to bring out two tacos we ordered. They gave it to the wrong table had to remake it. Made one of the drinks wrong and had to remake it. A bit on the high end $75 for 4 drinks 2 orders of chilaquiles and some sweet bread. read more

I finally checked out Panecito y Café, and it's definitely going into my regular rotation! The space itself is surprisingly spacious, so you don't feel cramped while you're browsing. The staff were incredibly nice and went out of their way to be helpful, which always makes a difference. It was a little warm inside, but honestly, that's to be expected when you're in an authentic bakery with ovens going! They have a huge selection of pastries. You can grab your own from the self-serving cases or pick out some of the specialty items they keep over the counter. Everything looked so fresh, and the best part is that it is all extremely well-priced. The Coffee (The Real Star) I ordered the Mazapan Coffee, and it was delicious. It had that perfect nutty, sweet flavor. The coolest part? It actually came with its own mini chocolate concha on the side! It's such a thoughtful (and tasty) touch that you don't see everywhere. Beyond the bakery items, they also have a selection of grocery items, including a bunch of different Mexican snacks. While I was there, I noticed they look like they're in the process of setting up a paleteria section. Walking in, it's very lovely and casual. It wasn't too packed, people just coming in for some coffee then leaving. Their display of pastries looked so good. I got a few, and man they were bomb. They were all fresh, nothing was harden. The breads are very soft. The drinks were also great. The Strawberry Blast I assume has red-bull mixed in it so it's recommended if you want energy. My Dulce De Leche Coffee is sooo good and sweet. It even comes with a concha on top. The service was great. The lady was very sweet and served us with a smile as of everyone else walking in. She even brought us our drinks to our table. It's a nice cafe. I think the only con is there is no AC so it is pretty hot. read more

I love that this cafe is part bakery, convenience store, and coffee shop! I wish I took a picture of their breads since they have two areas to choose from. It was a bit warm inside but not unbearable. They cook the food outside in a food truck but bring it back inside covered with a plate cover which I thought was very considerate and smart! I believe this establishment has changed to a bakery/small grocery store named Panecito y Cafe. My daughter & I visited to grab up some pan dulce and coffee. There is a lot of options of pastries, you can grab a tray and select pan dulce or you can select pastries from behind a counter. I did both! I ordered an Abuelita iced coffee (just a note: if you are pressed for time I definitely just recommend to hold off on coffee as there was a wait time). Deliciously infused with coffee and the flavor of Abuelita hot chocolate powder, if you a fan of sweet iced coffee this is great! The pan dulce I enjoyed later with a cup of hot coffee and absolutely delicious. I had picked a few concha's and they were incredibly flavorful and delicious! Can't wait to go back! read more

Went today in the AM to see what was the hype and it was ok. Really bad customer service, the lady got my bread and tried to cram it all my bread in there until i asked her for a box, then she couldn't fix my bread in there and crammed them in there as well. On the receipt it said "Jenny". I thought that place would make you feel at home or something like that but like i said ZERO customer service. I loved the bread that had just came out the baked area in was nice and soft. as a current barista & manager i'm always very understanding of other baristas & ticket times. i was just there today & the only worker was completely swamped with orders. i felt very bad for her, the line kept growing & she definitely noticed. i waited 20 minutes total just to walk out with a refund, no coffee & a very fussy baby. once again it wasn't her fault, this was definitely on her managers for not scheduling ppl at peak hours. i don't see myself coming back any time soon which is unfortunate. i live not even a minute away & always love to put my money back into the community. please don't overwhelm your workers & schedule enough staff. they are the ones who have to deal with tough situations read more

Came here on a weekend morning to give this place a try. I ordered two plates of chilaquiles (one with asada and one without) along with a mazapán coffee. The food was good and arrived in a reasonable amount of time. My biggest issues were the customer service and the pricing. When I asked for salsa, the waiter suggested jalapeños instead and seemed hesitant to get the salsa from their truck. I understand it was hot outside, but as a customer, I wanted the salsa I asked for. The mazapán coffee tasted good, but the concha on top was hard and not very fresh. In total, the bill came to $48 for two orders of chilaquiles and one coffee, which felt overpriced for what we received. While the food was enjoyable, I don't think it's worth the price. This place has become popular over the past few months, but if you're on a budget, I'd recommend saving your money and trying one of the many other local breakfast spots instead. read more

Ok, these are some really good tacos. This food truck recently moved into the area as an addition to Mi Pueblo Meat Market. The staff at Mi Pueblo is so friendly and accommodating- this little store is such a welcome addition to the neighborhood. They have items you might need on the go, delicious fresh Mexican breads, and any meat (and plenty seasonings) you might need for the grill. We put in a pretty hefty order for tacos to feed about 5 people. We got asada, pastor, & chorizo. Each taco tasted authentically made and full of taco deliciousness in terms of flavor. I especially loved the sides of radish and cucumber that came along with the bags of salsa. The salsa has decent heat and great flavor as well. There was ONE man back there preparing all of these- and God bless him, he absolutely knows what he's doing. Delicious and highly recommended! The bakery shop is big. They have lots of great options for sweet bread. I love the way the soft bread is sweet and not dry at all. The service they provided is amazing. They were kind and very helpful. They recommended a few unique coffee options. The coffee called cafe abuelita is my favorite. It's a must try. The ambience is welcoming and big enough to cater a good amount of people. I would highly recommend this place for its delicious baked goods and unique coffee.
