I moved to SD back in 2003 and have been on the hunt for decent Chinese food ever since. Most of the time I've been disappointed and otherwise frustrated with just okay food. I ordered the combination platter which has house special with beef with salad, rice and 4 little pieces of sushi for the price of $7.95. I came here as our handyman lives in Alpine and said this place was really good. I got the Kung Pao Trio which was good and spicy. Most of the place I go to the Kung Pao is not spicy so that was nice. The shrimp roll was very good. The person really enjoyed her Moo Shu Pork. If the place was closer, we make it a regular place. " Thuan Is An Awesome Sushi Chef " My wife and I went to the Panda Machi restaurant tonight to enjoy some delicious items as we sat at the Sushi Bar, where Thuan Nguyen is the head Sushi Chef. We have enjoyed Thaun's bubbly personality over the years, as he creates some very yummy and super professional looking sushi rolls for us to enjoy. The Panda Machi has Happy Hour from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm everyday so you can enjoy many dishes at a very low price. Thuong Nguyen our server did a great job as usual, bringing our drinks and ready to eat items to us. We started our meal with a dish of Garlic Edamame which was Large and really good. We also enjoyed some Cream Cheese Wontons with Sweet & Sour dipping sauce. My wife enjoyed a plate of Fried Calamari which see loves ! We then had Thaun make us two sushi plates. We shared an " Awesome Sushi Roll " and a " Spicy Crab Roll ". Both of this sushi rolls were SOOOOO Good ! Thaun the Sushi Chef does a great job ! Nice place. I like the food. Sushi es great. Just staff is not that good I mean some are awesome. Some are not even mediocre. One time I got my bill split. Left a 20 bucks tip and for some random reason they charged us both 20 on tips so in total my bill was like 55 plus a 40 bucks tip and they still didn't think that was weird? A 90% tip. With mediocre service. Lol. I complained but they couldn't find it and I noticed too late. We noticed when we got our bank statement. So yeah. Food is good. Feels homie. We stopped and ate here when we had to travel to the east every weekend. The staff were attentive, and we loved the food. Now, even though we live in Poway, we sometimes drive to Alpine just to visit again. With gas prices being what they are now, we won't be able to visit as much. Best sushi place in Alpine!! Good food + good service = great experience. Trinity and Jose always give me good service. In addition, they have great lunch specials. I always recommend the special house chicken, which is my favorite. In addition, they have a great selection of Japanese beers and sake. I'm not a sake fan at all. However, Trinity recently suggested the hana-awaka sake, which I must admit, was really nice. Just like the label says..."Sweet and refreshing." This is one of my favorite places to go in Alpine. I always feel welcome and you can tell that they have a strong regular client base. They greet people by name and that means a lot. I hear the Cheers' theme song playing in my head....lol read more

I love this place! I drive from Chula Vista to alpine just to have Sushi and the orange chicken here. Once you have had it... other places with orange chicken will fall short. When you walk in you are greeted by smiling, friendly staff. You seat yourself, and then you get ready for your taste buds to go crazy! The sushi here is very fresh, and very, very delicious! My wife is somewhat of a sushi fiend, and it's her favorite place to go when she wants sushi. It's a hidden gem in East County. She usually gets a Rainbow Roll and a Philadelphia roll. I've never heard a complaint from her. I usually get the Leave It To The Chef roll. I request extra spicy octopus in it, and it's amazing - no matter who makes it! The Hamachi Sashimi is wonderfully fresh and delicious, and the Oysters never disappoint, but make sure to get them while you can! The service is incredible. They're quick, super friendly, and when you come as often as we do, they greet you by name and remember your usual rolls. The prices are extremely fair! The customer service is great, you can call in your order or eat there. I ordered just the simple egg fried rice and the fried pork wontons. The egg fried rice was super good, and they had added in a lot of egg. Which to me, is perfect. I had asked them to add in some extra green onion, and she repeated it back to me. Somehow, they never made it in. No big deal though. The fried pork wontons tasted amazing, but I feel like they could have easily added in more pork. It seemed a little under portioned. Like I said though, they were good! I'm the kind of person who will drown all Chinese food in soy sauce (sorry!) and I didn't add in ANY. I didn't have to. It tasted that good! IN A NUTSHELL: For $10, I feel I should have recieved a bigger portion (filling-wise in the wontons) and my onions should have made it into the rice, but it all was super tasty! Fresh, succulent, and topped with a thin slice of lemon that brought out a hint of zesty crispness. The combination of the fresh fish and perfect sushi rice alone was to die for. We tend to eat late dinner, traveling or not, so a place open past 8pm is always appreciated. We stayed at the Ayres Lodge that shares a parking lot with a strip mall, so the restaurants there got a look. The first thing we noticed was how busy Panda Machi was compared to the competition. Generally, going where the people are serves us well. So we gave it a shot. We were seated quickly, and our drinks (water and Coke) were big enough that we never needed refills. Not quite a caraffe, but close. We went with two of the specials, the Kung Pao trio and sweet and pungent shrimp, with fried rice, hot and sour, and egg drop soup. The soups were good sized, and hearty. The fried rice didn't stand out but it was tasty. The trio had big chunks of still-crispy celery, generous red peppers, and a heat that built slowly. The shrimp was prepped well. At first I thought it wasn't a lot but the shrimp to breading ratio was spot on and it filled us up. Great value for the price. We didn't try any of the sushi this time but it seems to be their claim to fame and from the dishes I saw being ordered, it's deserved. read more

I finally got to try these guys. I know many people who swear by this place but ik always skeptical to try new restaurants especially with a type if food I'm still experimenting with but boy am i glad i walked in last night. First impression was a quiet clean seating area and a very welcoming staff who may i add was happy to help me even with it being after last call. The prices are great and the food was superb. I was out in the area for work and stopped by for a late lunch. I ordered their Mongolian beef lunch special which came with rice, crispy pork dumplings and cream cheese wontons side soup and salad for only $6.95! Cheaper than Panda Express and taste delicious! I love the egg drop soup that came with it full of flavor and it was just right! I'm glad I stopped in for lunch and will definitely be back when I'm in the area.
