Boneless pork ribs and fried rice
Nora A.

Ordered lunch from here and it was delivered on time but they forgot one order and had to go back. They still got the order wrong. Besides the mixed up, food was good. Not sure if it was because I had not had Chinese in a while or not. Vacuumed the entire bowl. Prices is very reasonable and for lunch special, you can get soup, soda or egg roll with your meal for less than $6. That is very cheap for lunch in Nyack.

I like this place! The owners are lovely people, and the dining area is immaculate. Much better than most take out joints in the area.

I've now been to a few local Chinese takeout places and overall this is my current favorite. The…read moreplace ain't much to look at inside -- kinda sparse and bare, but more importantly the portions are generous and the prices are fair for what you get. I first tried the chicken egg foo young and it was very good (although I did add just a little low-sodium soy sauce to give a slight flavor boost but not a biggie). I also got the hot n sour soup that was also quite good if not the best I've had, but it's still very passable and I still order it with every meal. Next I tried another staple -- chicken and broccoli -- and I have to say it's excellent and rivals some of the best I've had from pricier/fancier Chinese restaurants. The chicken is moist and tender, the mix of chicken and broccoli is spot on, and the brown sauce is very flavorful and ties the whole dish together perfectly. Very impressed thus far I tried the general tsao's chicken yesterday and this is where things finally went south -- it was not good. The sauce was good but the chicken was so dry and tough it was virtually inedible, and despite this being a large order it had only three pieces of broccoli (I was told it should've had six pieces but even that woulda been kinda lame). I ended up bringing it back (which I've never done before) and exchanged it for the chicken and broccoli that was again excellent. So the bottom line seems to be that China Taste can vary from great to poor depending on the dish, but as my admittedly limited experience skews more to the great at this point I'm willing to stick with them and try other dishes (a beef dish will be next), and I still prefer them to the alternatives I've tried around here thus far.

I would never suggest this place to anyone. Just to add to the story I called telling the woman the ribs were bad and made me sick she pretended to not understand and when I asked for the owner and when they would be back her response was I don't know. Really this is shame this business is in this area it really should be in a 3rd world country where quality and health have no meaning.

After that it was down hill. I found the beef sticks that people rave about overcooked, and so hard they could not be chewed. The sauce was also a turn off because the beef sticks were gratuitously over sweet. I literally tried to take one bite and gave up. I brought the container of beef sticks that I had been served, up to the counter. I explained about them.being overlooked, hard and not being able to chew them and the staff looked at me in disbelief. Nevertheless, they were gracious and offered to remake it. I said no thank you, and they asked if I wanted anything else instead, I was delighted for this offer. I requested another order of the utterly delicious sesame noodles, and they very kindly accomodated me. I also had the Thai fried rice, which was also something customers who wrote reviews raved about. For me the dish was a complete fail. There were a few delicious shrimp on top and mixed in, which I ate thinking that the dish was very promising. After that it was a treasure hunt. The rice was so dry and anything else in the container was tasteless, but I was super hungry. So I searched for the itsy bitsy pieces of pineapple and for the peas and some little pieces of chicken. All the vegetables were cut so small that you really couldn't taste them, except the peas. Even the pineapple was so so small it failed to flavor the dish. I would say after eating the few shrimp and picking out the pineapple and peas that 90% of the food remained in the container. They offered me a top for the container so I could take it home, but I declined, and I quietly l tossed it out when I left. It was just so dry and tasteless I didn't think that anything I might do to it at home to try to give it some taste, would make any difference. I don't recommend the food based on what I had except for the sole exception of the extraordinarily good sesame noodles.

It is similar to Sichuan/Szechuan cuisine in ways, in that there is an emphasis on spicy foods, although the spice profiles differ. It is in the space formerly occupied by a different Chinese restaurant called Joyce (RIP - I loved and miss their short-lived foray into seafood boils). Although there are many great authentic (meaning regionally specialized) Chinese restaurants in Bergen County and northern NJ, including several Sichuan places, this is the only Hunan one I'm aware of (without venturing further south into NJ), and is certainly one of the nicest Chinese restaurants atmosphere-wise, with an elegant dining room. If you want to try the interesting and authentic dishes, of which there are plenty, order from the sections of the menu labeled with "Hunan" or "Home Style." The soups and cold appetizers are very traditional too. The house speciality is the Hunan steamed fish head with pickled chili - the platter is quite impressive and takes 20-30 min to prepare. You can add tofu (recommended) or noodles for an additional $5. We ordered this but since I'm not a fish head fan (and like my fish very simply dressed) - I think it was a type of carp - the appreciation for it was lost on me. It's topped with a heap of red chilis but is actually not as spicy as it looks. Personally I prefer the fish fillet dishes such as the fish with ginger, which has very tender filet slices. I loved the soup dumplings (large and soupy), shrimp with salted egg yolk (or any salted egg yolk dishes, which aren't easy to find), and enjoyed the tender sautéed beef dishes like beef with spring onion or the spicy green pepper with steak, with crunchy peppers that give a piquant refreshing kick. They have whole Peking duck (Beijing roast duck)! The menu only shows pricing for the whole duck but we asked for half and they obliged. To be honest it's not the best Peking duck I've had but the balance of crispy skin (that's yet not too fatty) to generously shaved lean duck meat was unimpeachable. And they use high-quality crepes that are superbly thin but do not tear. The lo mein is also pretty good - it's slightly smoky and is better than common. Parking tip: there are only a few spots in front but there is a parking lot in the back of the building with plenty of spaces. There are lots of exciting and exotic menu offerings and still many we'd like to try, so we'll be back repeatedly.

They said it would be "spicy", but it really wasn't very, so if you don't like extremely spicy food, you'll be ok (But maybe ask them for it to be a little spicer than normal if you do like very spicy food).
