New discovery for me in my neighborhood. They had left menus in my building so I grabbed one and decided to check them out. I like the fact that you can get both which gives you a very wide selection of food. I've tried things from both menus and they are both very good. Ownership and management change has helped this place. Competent kitchen staff and they cleaned up the place. Terrible recent health department inspection hurts them however. Hopefully they can correct the issues and continue to serve up good Chinese food. read more

This is my neighborhood Chinese/Tex-Mexican restaurant that I grew up on when I used to live in Kew Gardens. I absolutely love this gem because unlike Peter's Kitchen down the block they consistently put out good and inexpensive food. They've changed owners once since I was a little girl, but I'm proud to say that the food still hits the spot like way back when. Classic Chicken and Broccoli in spicy garlic lunch special will run you $5.50. An egg roll is included with the meal which to me keeps the customers coming back. Why should I drop an extra dollar and change on something that should be apart of the meal? The eggroll is deliciously non-greasy. Thank you Panda Garden for upholding a grade A inspection and yummy food. If you're thinking about dining in there's four table tops with mismatched chairs (black and white). I think the reason for this is to show the diversity of their restaurant. Hence the Asian and Mexican fusion. read more

Panda garden was always my favorite since I was a kid and moved into the neighborhood, but ever since the new owner took over the portions in salads and combos decreased horribly I asked for a chicken salad including all vegetables and only got lettuce and tomato and barely got any chicken. My family usually gets delivery from this place and we love it. Normally I'd give them 4 or even 5 stars based solely on the food and delivery. This evening, however, the food was off the mark. For the first time, we went to the restaurant itself, and I tried their Scallops dish. The photo of the dish up above the counter made my mouth water, as it included nice veggies like onion and red pepper. The actual dish I received had rice, scallops, and broccoli in an awesome brown sauce. It was a little disappointing, but like I said... awesome brown sauce. I was totally willing to forgive the "false advertising," but the scallops SUCKED. I'm telling you, they were small, extremely soft (fresh scallops usually give you some resistance, some firmness), and they tasted somewhat fishy. The more I ate of them, the more skeeved-out I became. I brought it up to the counter and asked them if they believed the scallops to be fresh, or at least within the expiration date. The chef simply asked me if I'd like him to make me some shrimp & broccoli. OK. And that was it. Awesome shrimp & broccoli, fresh out of the wok... and my wife & kid had their usual chicken mai fun. Another first, my daughter wasn't crazy about her Mai Fun! However, she's got a cold, and it's possible her taste buds are affected. I would say I'll definitely order from here again the next time we're with our friends who live in this neighborhood, but FIX YOUR DOOR. This place is very unassuming, and looks like your typical Chinese take out spot, but they also have a very extensive Tex-Mex menu which includes tacos, burritos etc. So with the combination of Chinese food items and Tex-Mex items there is surely something for everyone here. Came here late night for a quick bite to eat and they are definitely cranking out fresh flavorful food. I got a steak quesadilla and a steak fajita soft taco. I did wait a bit for my meal, but once it arrived I understood why. My tortillas were soft and fluffy as they were made fresh to order, a welcome surprise compared to tortillas out of a plastic bag. The steak was cooked perfectly could tell it was quality because it was not rubbery or too chewy. Meal came with salsa and sour cream on the side. Even my left overs the next day tasted as fresh as new. You get your money's worth for sure. read more

I'm shocked at how terrible this place is. I am very forgiving with food quality. Pretty much all food tastes fine to me. This place is seriously far below quality for chinese american food. Nothing is salted. Everything is too dry or tastes bland. It's like people who can't cook are cooking here. Bean soup is just beans in water. Wonton soup wontons taste burnt yet soup tastes bland. I could go on and on but I won't. Also bad, they are literally the only people I have ordered delivery from in new york city that refused to come into the building and deliver to my door. They wait outside and call you. I live on the top floor. So of course I will never order from them again. Amazing, because the instant I came all the way down (we have an elevator building) another chinese delivery guy from a different restaurant came into the elevator with me to go back up. I mean come on, waiting outside for a tenant takes WAY LONGER than just going into the nice warm elevator and delivering to the door. Pretty decent Tex-Mex spot which I discovered via Seamless. I wish you could give half stars, because Panda Garden gets a solid 3.5 in my book. My shrimp taco was sloppy and not even rolled up, so I made a huge mess eating it, but the taste was there. Pretty good amount of shrimp too. I also ordered a hot and sour soup, which was fine but nothing to sing about. My husband inhaled his steak combo. Delicious, fresh, and budget-friendly. Food is tasty, not overly salty compared to some Chinese take-out restaurants. Most importantly, their ingredients are very fresh, and their kitchen seems clean. Let's be real -- Chinese food is pretty standardized flavor-wise, so the fresh/clean factors go a long way. (I believe the restaurant changed ownership a few years ago. The prior ownership didn't seem concerned with freshness/cleanliness, and the restaurant never seemed too busy then. Under the current guys, however, business has been booming, so just goes to show...) Although they have a couple tables for you to sit and eat, you're better off getting the food to-go. read more

This is my go to place for Chinese take out when using grub hub. They are accurate and timely in their delivery. Their half fried chicken is better than average and not as oily as other places. The rest of their food that I have had is acceptable for this type of Chinese take out. I also like their Tex Mex, while not as fresh as the Chinese menu items, it's a great option to have. Coming from Elmhurst, my boyfriend and I know good Chinese food. Now living between Jamaica, Forest Hills and Kew Gardens, we found our expectations have to be lowered quite a bit because there's just not a lot of options. Sushi, on the other hand, there's plenty but we have our favs elsewhere. Back to Panda Garden, which my sister recommended (thanks favorite sister!) and it's pretty darn good for American Chinese food. Their fried foods are really good, such as their egg rolls, scallion pancakes, and crab rangoon (that particular item should be illegal, it is SO good). Every dish we had was good, from lo mein, to rib tips, as well as beef and broccoli with garlic sauce. They had pretty authentic pan fried noodles, but for $9 the portion was waaay too small. One drawback is the fried goodness doesn't stay fresh if it's delivered, so it's really better if you eat there (or the delivery guy makes it in under half an hour. Overall, we're glad we were directed to this option when we're a tad homesick and don't want to schelp out to da Hurst (or eat while wearing pants). I will give it a 3. The food was really good and got home hot. The waiting time was 45 - 60 min and the food came after that. But my main complaint was the delivery guy, I placed the order online and use my credit card to pay cuz I didn't have cash at home. When the delivery guy came he was asking for tips, I apologize to him and told him that I got no cash, so he hold my door and was not letting me close it. I kept telling him that I have no cash but he would continue holding the door, i was alone at home so I got so scared! I thought is was a spam and it was actually a robbery. I don't know how people are saying that the food is good here. I had to throw all my food out because it was so bad. The chicken in the chicken and broccoli was rubbery and the sauce was only oil, there was no flavor in any of the food. The chicken lo mein was absolutely terrible unless you pour so much soy sauce that you only taste the soy sauce. I ordered the shrimp toast which were horrendous, the inside was mushy as if it was very old and there was oil dripping out of them as I was holding the pieces up. I wish I could've liked this place because there doesn't seem to be any good Chinese restaurants in this area. read more

Very disappointed. I've been coming here for awhile but the deceitful business practice of this restaurant has caused me to not return. On a few occasions they have forgotten to place things in my bag. But today I ordered a tostada salad and paid extra for guacamole. Get home, no guacamole. So I call to complain, and i was told it's the red mushy stuff next to the cheese. I tell then guacamole is green from avocado. Then I'm told some story about not enough avocado but u charge me over $2 for something you knew you didn't have. Needless to say never returning. My favorite Chinese place so convenient because I live close by. Sometimes when it's cold I get a delivery and it always comes with a friendly deli every guy. The general tso chicken and wings are a must have. The tacos here are good too especially the shrimp tacos. They have Tex mex if u prefer that over Chinese foods. read more

I'm not even sure if I am reviewing the current restaurant of the previous ownership of the same location. That let's you know how many times they have changed ownership over the years. I will say that it looks like they cleaned the place up a bit since then and got some newer tables etc because before it used to look messy and outdated. I've never tried the mexican here but the Chinese was decent but not even close to the top 10 in the area. Chinese food restaurants are literally everywhere. There's probably at least 5 within a 10 block radius of this area so there's plenty to choose from and nothing really stands out about this one. read more

This is one of the many Chinese food spots around my area. This isn't my number one choice but when two people are in the mood for two different things, this would be a good place. Stale chips, the cheese on the nachos was like-singles American cheese, Guac was not fresh, chicken in the burrito was not the usual Mexican grilled chicken.... it was like the chicken you get in a chicken and broccoli dish. It's basically a Chinese place serving Mexican food. Never tried their Chinese food but I do not recommend the Mexican food. The delivery man was super sweet though and food came really fast.
