Orange chicken, fried rice and chow mein, two entree plate
    Richard R.

I stopped by Panda Express in Visalia to get a quick lunch to go. As you may know, this is sugary carb goodness packed into a styrofoam container. This location was covid compliant with no self serve anything available and masks required upon entry. I went with a 2 entree plate, double orange chicken and a side of half fried rice and half soft fried chow mein. I asked for pink lemonade but they only had regular lemonade. The price was 11 dollars and some change out the door, but there is an option to donate the change to a children's hospital so I opted for a flat 12 dollars out the door with donation, which I think is a nice option to help the children. The chicken was freshly made and a nice blend of sweet and tart, with a little bit of spice. It was soft yet crunchy, a little crispy on the edges and perfect. The chow mein was soft and had just the right mixture of vegetables to have a slight crunch. The rice is good with small green onions, egg, peas, and carrots in it. A little bit of soy and it was excellent. I don't eat at Panda Express often but when I am having some carb cravings, this is a good place to satisfy that need. This was my first time at the Visalia location but they were nice, friendly and helpful and the hot, fresh food made it a good experience. I recommend it.

I decided to order from Door Dash as I usually do, never will do that ever again. I ordered a plate- honey sesame chicken. There was a large piece that looked like chicken, which took up a large portion of chicken I got on my plate. Upon biting it I realized it was like uncooked batter sort of like a mixture of cornstarch and flour. It was very powdery/chalky and to make it worse my daughter got orange chicken only for it to taste very vinegary. Not sure what happened but it was very disgusting.

Ordered food and picked it up. When I got home I noticed crispy almond chicken was semi burnt. It didn't taste very good.

    Orange chicken and broccoli beef

Good thing there's three different Pandas in town. First, the drive thru experience was awfully frustrating as they were constantly rushing me when they had ONE customer inside. I know this because I was asked to park and wait 5-8 minutes for the broccoli beef. They finally brought it out and when I got home you wouldn't believe it but they completely forgot to ADD THE FRESHLY MADE FOOD. Not only that but they didn't include the sauces, fortune cookies, straw and they filled my cup just over half. Why the rush? Why the terrible service? I get to the restaurant to show them the missing food and they STILL had NO BROCCOLI. Another 10 min wait so I just subbed it with something different. Oh and instead of replacing the now COLD dish, they just added the warm replacement to the cold dish. Terrible experience.

    Poor portion it's ridiculous!!!

Each plate had its own, taste - The egg rolls were crisp on the outside and had a good filling. The sweet and sour pork had a crisp batter with a good flavor. We enjoyed several different items . The house rice was perhaps too mild. I asked the manager/ owner about her menu and how it was different from other Chinese restaurants. She offered that the food is based more on what is found in Shanghai. She commented the have spicier options we could ask about next time we came in. The Shanghai has a modest interior and is crowded in the cluster of restaurants at the corner of Walnut and Akers.

This was our go-to for delicious and freshly prepared Chinese food but it's not the same anymore. The restaurant is located in a strip mall with plenty of free parking. The restaurant is clean but the one restroom could definitely use a deep, thorough cleaning. I ordered the #2 dinner combo $15.00, it consisted of --a cup of basic egg flower soup 3/5 --two deep fried wontons with sweet and sour sauce 4/5 --two deep fried shrimp (a bit greasy) 3/5 --one veggie egg roll (a bit greasy) 3/5 --chicken broccoli (very garlicky and flavorful) 5/5 --orange chicken (some of the pieces of chicken had a gamely flavor (yuck) and the chicken was not crispy; orange sauce coating the chicken was good 2/5 --chicken chow mein ( chicken and veggies were kinda nonexistent & it looked like they used spaghetti pasta rather than traditional chow mein noodles) 2/5 --pork fried rice was pretty good 5/5 Service was efficient and waitress was friendly. Unfortunately, I won't be back due to this experience.

It was his favorite Chinese restaurant when he lived in Visalia. I had not been in many years, so I went with him for dinner one evening, and it was good. Not my favorite in this area, but good. The food was really solid. Very delicious, excellent food. We ordered family style, so we got great portions. However, the service when we went was very slow and definitely lacking. We knew exactly what we wanted within about a minute of sitting down, so we did the typical set the menus aside and fold our hands to signal the server that we were ready to order. It took more than 10 minutes before we were able to finally get a waitress to take our order. Not that there weren't waitresses there, they just kept walking by and saying someone else would get back to us to take our order. Our appetizer arrived 25 minutes after we arrived. Yes, it was so noticeable, I WAS paying attention to the times. We started off with the fried chicken wings, spring rolls, and tempura scromp-scromps. They were all good. Again, not my favorite in Visalia, but still quite good. A few minutes later, we got the Beef & Egg flower soup. Now, I love me some egg flour, soup, but then you go and throw some meat in it? Next level. That was definitely better than other Chinese restaurants in Visalia. Our main dishes started arriving at 31 minutes. We got the Orange Chicken, Honey Walnut Scromp-scromps, and Beef with Broccoli. These were all very delicious arguably as good or close to my favorite Chinese restaurants in town. The restaurant was relatively busy when I was there, so I didn't take any inside pics, but the inside is nice. The restaurant seemed clean and the prices were reasonable. It was really the service that we had issue with, and found lacking. It could've been a isolated event, I don't know. Even my brother was disappointed.

The target customer demographic in this area isn't generally Asian, so we tempered our expectations before dining here. We were impressed by the extensive menu offerings and after some deliberation, we settled on the Dinner for Two which started with a Won Ton Soup and fried shrimp and pot stickers as appetizers. The entree included sizzling rice wor bar, Peking pork and pork fried rice (we substituted for pork chow mein). The restaurant was very traditional in closing the meal out with fortune cookies. Our favorite due to its flavor was the Peking pork, and we also enjoyed the fried shrimp, pot stickers and sizzling rice wor bar. The only misses were the Won Ton Soup (we felt the flavor of the broth was not quite right) and the pork chow mein (it arrived lukewarm and lacking in flavor but it was an improvement after dousing it in chili sauce). Chinese Kitchen doesn't appear to be located in the best neighborhood, but it is easy to tell that this establishment has been around for quite some time. The best part of our dining experience was the service. Our greeter and server welcomed us, took our order and checked in on us multiple times. We also had the opportunity to chat with the owner and she is very welcoming and helpful. If you're in Visalia and have a craving for Chinese cuisine, Chinese Kitchen is as good an option as any!

But my friends who recommended it they've came but only for the drinks on the Lum Lums side. Hong Kong is the the food side apparently. So I ordered the Shrimp Fu Yung. I got stir fried shrimp with veggies over a clump of breaded onion. The shrimp was over cooked veggies were fine. The breaded onion seemed like it might have been reheated from a previous unused dish. If it wasn't for the gravy it wouldn't have rehydrated. Wasn't this an Egg Foo Yung dish, instead it was a clump of breaded onions. That's how bad it was. This place was busy but don't know why. The other people I was with ordered lemon chicken, orange chicken, fried rice, fried plain wontons, sweet and sour chicken. They all seem to enjoy it. They received a lot of food. But a lot was taken home as leftovers. My friends are also non-Asian and not a big foodie like me. So take that however you want. It's sad when businesses close but to make a highly traditional dish like egg foo yung terrible, that is a sign.
