I never really leave reviews unless I'm extremely happy with the product/service or very disappointed. Unfortunately, this is a bad one. The food, while it is fairly cheap given the portion size, was incredibly underwhelming. I ordered the sweet and sour pork combination plate and while the rice was rice and chow mein was chow mein, the pork was... not good. Which was saddening given it was the main part of the dish. Very hard, very chewy, somehow stringy in some parts and in my opinion lacking the main piece, the sauce. In other photos you can see examples but in terms of quality, very poor. Not to be hateful but there is a wide range of improvements on the food that need to happen before I consider eating here again. read more

Portions are huge but flavor is lacking. I got the orange chicken with white rice & pork chow mein. The orange chicken isn't the typical cubed breaded chicken instead it was chicken strips which was interesting. The rice was dry. The chow mein had a decent soy sauce flavor. My fiancé ordered the honey walnut shrimp, it had an interesting citrus flavor. We also got fried chicken, we were hoping for like a salt & pepper chicken but it was plan and had a weird batter. I found Fortune Cookie on YELP ,we went Fri evening around 6:30pm. Upon walking in I noticed there are no booths , The restaurant is a square building with tables and chairs , not a problem cause there was only one empty table. We were seated . 2 waitresses waited the whole restaurant , they hustled. This places' phone rang for orders the whole time. Now the food I ordered a combination plate just to taste a little of everything, the Almond chicken was delish, my egg fu yung was crunchy just the way I like them . Beijing Beef is my all time favorite though. I just found out that they do marinade all their meat in an egg marinade so my son who's allergic to eggs had been having reactions and we couldn't figure out why even if we order no eggs. Asia Gardens in Porterville has went downhill fast! (it's under new ownership) We will drive all the way to Exeter just for Chinese food takeout now. We live 26miles away. They don't offer soup with to-go orders, but that's no problem. Combos come with a huge amount of food - two entrees, fried rice, chow mean, fried shrimp, and fried won-ton. We went there again for our granddaughter's birthday dinner with all the family. This time everything was fresh and delicious. I don't know what the problem was on our earlier visit, but we really enjoyed it this last time. I think sometimes if you order combination dinners they are just not as well prepared as when each person orders one dish and then shares. I have found this true in two Chinese restaurants so far.
