Panda Express - Chinese Near Me - Truckee, California

They have a habit of not making the honey chicken breast nearly everyday. It's the best choice meat IMO but almost never available.

We were visiting family here and chose to have lunch here. With signs posted at the door/entrance that masks are required inside this establishment (and signage visible inside as well, like on the glass at the start of the buffet line)! I was shocked to see so many individuals who chose to ignore this while we stood in line. Where we're from (Hawaii), if you chose to ignore the mask mandate, you would not be served. Anyhow, the food was as good as expected, but we did noticed that the selections were much less than we're used to seeing back home. Missing chow fun noodles, egg plant/tofu, and almond chicken, to name a few. read more

What can you expect from this place... pretty much the same thing as any other Panda Express. Staff does their jobs, food tastes consistent across the chain just as one might expect and the place is kept relatively clean. One of the trashcans in the outside eating area were jammed full of takeout packaging, as it seems this location defaults to takeout orders. I got myself a "bigger plate" of fried rice, chow mein, and orange chicken with an added side entree of sweetfire chicken breast. They need to do a better job of keeping their entrees replenished. The kung pao chicken and string bean chicken we got tasted old.

The foods always good and the staff is very friendly. I appreciate that they always add extra teriyaki sauce if i ask and don't try to charge me extra for it. Sometimes you need that Chinese food craving satisfied and this is pretty delicious. read more

EDIT: The management reached out to me on this. I feel like that alone deserves an edit to the review to consider the change that I could be wrong. The were reassuring and I hope it means there will be a change. I will upgrade my review and if nothing changes, I will update it again. This location seems understaffed every time i go in. I normally like Panda Express but I have had such a consistent disappointment with the food at the Panda Express in Truckee I had to leave a review. The last three times I have eaten at this Panda Express the food has been terrible. Nothing like what you experience at other locations. Tonight at 8pm I had limited choices because they were out of most of the main dishes. The wait was 15 minutes. In your car because of COVID. What I chose didn't even taste like the ingredience listed. The chicken tasted like old frying oil. No sauce on the orange chicken and the other beef dish I got was inedible. The only thing that was remotely edible was the rice and even it had and old oil taste. I will never go back and I am off any Panda Express in any location. read more

Nice service, very clean restaurant, lots of choices for Chinese food. We received exactly what we each wanted -- nice, quick line -- and you order exactly what you want (and how much you want). Easy self-serve drinks and sodas. Plus able to buy bottled Panda express products. One thing this store should consider -- is putting the menu up right when you come into to restaurant -- so you can see how it works (2 entrees plus a side, 3 entrees, etc) while you want in line. (rather than have people so up the line and try to decide and read the overhead too). It would just make things that much better for everyone -- including the employees not having to explain how things work and what to do. Overall, very nice experience and will be back. Love the Panda on the napkin dispenser that said to save some/not waste napkins -- to basically be more green! Good way to get people to conserve and get the message out. read more

They have a very good operation to deal with these COVID-19 times. They prepared our food very quickly and were very kind. They're only dealing with a limited menu, which is understandable. Very limited options for Chinese food in the north Lake Tahoe area and these guys came through for us. There was a park about three minutes away that had a few picnic tables to sit at. read more

Absolutely love this place. Hands down the best customer service in town! I arrived about 30 minutes until closing and just expected to eat whatever they had left. The girl taking the orders and the cook worked seamlessly to ensure I received whichever entree I wanted regardless of whether they had it made or needed to prepare it. I could tell the cook had a passion for what he did as well as keeping every guest that woked thru that door happy. I had ordered a large order of food a while back and the cook happened to be the one who helped me out to my car. I tried to tip him and he said that he couldn't accept but to please give it to the children's hospital instead. read more

Wow, a Panda Express in Truckee! I recommend getting the Panda Feast ($27) if you have a crowd. The feast includes choice of two large sides (fried rice, steamed rice, chow mein or steamed vegetables) and three large entrees. It should be enough food to serve 4-5 people. My favorite dishes are the eggplant and tofu, orange chicken and chicken with string beans. Bottom line: Decent food quality and portion size - a definite safe choice when on the road. read more

I recently moved up to Truckee full time and miss my neighborhood Chinese restaurant in the bay area. I almost never actually GET chinese food but I always knew I could when I really, really, craved it. But not so much up here (but I wouldn't live anywhere else for anything!!!) So...I was DYING for chinese yesterday after a big hike (I know...seems kinda counter productive...) so bit the bullet and tried Panda Express. Believe it or not, I've never been to a Panda Express before even though I see them popping up everywhere. I do recall getting an orange chicken sample at the mall food court waaaay back when that's the only place they were located. I really liked my food. I am a BIG believer in Americanized white person Chinese food. Only Chinese I like really. And the most awesome thing is they have nutritional data on all of the food (and their website) so, while it's not like eating at home and measuring out your ingredients, you do have a general idea of how bad you are being. BIG FAN! I bought mine to go but a quick scan when I walked in showed it was a clean place (not always true at Chinese restaurants. Go chain quality control!) and the cashier was extremely friendly and quick. I will be back. It's actually bad that I liked it so much ;) read more

All fresh ingredients! Fun for my son to try the different and options and for me, too! Ten times better than any panda express I have been to before. The food did not have any chemical or Chinese food after taste! No MSG. Each option had a distinct flavor, not like some Chinese good places where it tastes like they cook all the food in the same wok. They were really patient and kind with us wanting to try the options (since I have maybe experienced panda express once), even though they were swamped and obviously a very busy location. They had plenty of fresh food and the flavors burst on my tongue! It was wonderful. Fun wonton, egg roll and potstickers, too! The price was right. I got a 3 item combo for 8.50! Great portions so I was able to save half for dinner. The food sat well in my tummy and gave me energy for sledding down the street! Used to crave this all the time. Panda is pretty 'meh' as far as chinese style cuisine, but you know what, at least this one isn't dirty like others I've seen before. Good service, and the place gets a line to the door sometimes - not sure why, but it's always busy when i've been. Not a bad job for a Panda Express. I am usually fan of Panda. Sure it isn't gourmet or anything close, but it is a wonderful alternative to the other fast food. However, this location in Truckee is not one of the best. The place is clean and nice looking, but the food is not up to par with other Panda Expresses. The Chow Mein was bland (somewhat burned), the portion sizes were smaller than other stores (though based on the flavor, not to depressed about that). One positive is that they made the beef and broccoli with the angus steak by mistake and it was darn good. Overall, I'll skip the place next time. read more

Stopped in for dinner on a Tuesday while our Tesla was charging in the neighboring parking lot. The place wasn't busy. The food was fine; but there was only 1 clean place to sit in the restaurant. The floor hadn't been cleaned in awhile. Wanted to sit outside; there were 3 tables but only chairs for 1, which was occupied. There were 2 shopping center trash cans outside their door, which were overflowing. I realize this isn't the restaurant's responsibility but I do know that they can talk to the center's management about getting that under control. After a 3 day tiring trip in Lake Tahoe, a friend decided to eat here for our final meal before departing home. I don't know if I was really hungry or if the food was good, but we really enjoyed our meal. Food was ok, noodles were not really cooked. Burnt wontons, but what really got my attention was the cashier. Older lady, maybe 5'2", as soon as I got to the register, it seemed that she did not want to help me at all. I requested for teriyaki sauce because no mandarin was applied to my chicken. She did so but made no eye contact, no talking, no engagement. The second part was when the total came up, did not tell me the price, just stuck her hand out, no eye contact, not saying a word. I handed over my card, she did what she had to do without a word, handed it back, and started talking to the next customer, made eye contact with him, interacting. It got me thinking, maybe she snuffed out that I was gay and probably does not like gays, maybe she didn't like the way I was dressed (jeans and zip up sweater). Personally, I am thinking it is because I am gay, I do make it obvious with my short hair cut and men's clothing with a feminine voice.
