Our family travels a lot, and the kids love Panda Express, but this location is constant issues. It's the worst Panda Express we have been to across the whole country. Most recently, we went in at 7:30PM and tried to order both Orange Chicken and the new Hot Orange Chicken. They informed us that they would not be making any more for the night. When I inquired as to why they would not be making any more considering they were still open for another hour, the employee changed it up to include that they ran out of ingredients. I find that hard to believe they would be out of two of their most popular menu items, but it's possible I guess. Additionally, as other reviewers have stated, there has been times where this location served me with significantly smaller portion sizes than any other location that I have been to. read more

I had never been to this panda express and had not experienced panda express since probably 2013... I wanted it to be a hit but unfortunately it was a miss! We bought a bowl and a plate. The portions for the bowl were scammy, it was 98% noodles and 2% chicken. The plate was about 50% noodles 25% chicken 25% shrimp, which was more reasonable. The chicken was somewhat gristly. The honey walnut shrimp was tasty, that was the best thing we ordered. We split a chicken egg roll and it was extremely spicy, and the wontons had kind of a sour-cream-and-onion flavor. I think if I had been a drive thru only customer I might have walked away unscathed, but my main complaint was with the condition of the indoor seating. There were puddles of food on the floor. I watched many patrons clean their own booths and tables with napkins before sitting down. The beverage area was messy with used cups and a full garbage. In a lull in the rush, two employees walked past the dirty tables and full trash can and concocted their own drinks in large cups at the beverage station before returning to the back counter to drink them. No hate to the employees who are probably not making enough to worry about this, but it was a gross environment! If you're in Owatonna, save your money and go to Mitzuki Fusion! read more

There was a line of customers waiting. I saw 2 orders waiting to be picked up so I proceeded to the front of the line only to be treated rudely and given attitude by employee. He said they hadn't even started my order. I had placed order online 15 minutes prior to arrival and just assumed when I was told to come in to pick it up that my order was ready. Asked staff to cancel my order then only to be met with more attitude and rumblings about DoorDash. I told them this was not a DoorDash order, rather a personal order. Still given more attitude! Proceeded to leave and decided to call their land line number to ensure my order was cancelled. More attitude from the manager!! Asked what the problem was and told him I was told to come in for order and they would not give me my order through the drive-thru. This is the second time that we have gone to this location and they say the drive through is closed because they are understaffed. I went inside to get the food, and the portion size they gave was not consistent with every other location I've been to in the cities. Because they were low staff, they didn't want to give the usual portion size because it would mean they would have to make more food. However, I'm still stuck paying the $10 cost of a plate. I've had this same service even when they are fully staffed. Get it together. read more

This is the most unreliable location I've ever experienced. Three times, I've arrived over an hour before listed closing time... there's people inside and they're closed. Once I was in the drive thru, they started to take my order, asked a question and then just stopped. I pulled up to the window and they were hanging a sign up saying they were closing early. Tried to order Firecracker shrimp with app as a part of Family Meal, but the selection wasn't available. Called the restaurant and Junior, the manager or assistant manager in charger of the restaurant said to go ahead and placed the order with another shrimp dish and he will replace it with Firecracker shrimp. Arrived at the restaurant before the order was ready, Junior offered me a beverage while I waited. My order was ready shortly after, everything was fresh and piping hot. Amazing! Hands down the best Panda Express I have ever had! I am always hesitant about getting Panda Express because it is usual very mediocre, but this was unlike any other location I have had. I was passing though town on a work road trip and it more than exceeded my expectations. I have otherwise only had it and St Louis and Des Moines. Trying it without knowing I would not have thought it was Panda. Corey was really nice too. Rare to see good customer service these days, especially at a fast casual place. I hadn't been to this Panda Express in a couple years. I wasn't impressed, so I recently decided to give it another try. Unfortunately this time was more disappointing than the first. I decided to try three entrees and a side of rice. Orange Chicken -- It was over cooked. The chicken was tough and dry. The batter was dark brown and thick, and there wasn't much flavor. SweetFire Chicken -- This was even more disappointing. It was equally as tough and dry. Some of the pieces didn't even seem to have chicken inside. Worst of all was the complete lack of flavor, No heat. No sweet. Grilled Teriyaki Chicken -- This entrée was the saving grace. It was tender and delicious,and the only reason I'll be going back. Panda Express is my favorite fast food chain but I'm really starting to not like it it because of this one restaurant. I like to come here on my lunch break but they are always closed. I come to this store on weekdays at 11. They shouldn't be closed at this time. When they are open they don't even have all the food in stock. I always try to get orange chicken and fried rice and they are always out of one of them. And if they do have them in stock they only give me like maybe 7 little chunks of chicken. I do not recommend this restaurant. I would recommend going to Culver's instead. They don't speak loud enough to hear though the intercoms. Placed an order online, only to be refused ANY specialty substitute when they ran out of the walnut chicken, they refused a refund, refused any substitution that I wasn't allergic too, and then told me the one thing I could actually eat was "gross and I don't feel right serving it". I was told I had to contact Doordash for a refund but I ordered through their website, and doordash couldn't do a single thing to help me. They literally completely robbed me. The staff was rude and incompetent. Honestly you should fire them all and start over, there's no hope for this place. Don't spend your money here, Mizuki isn't even that far away, and they aren't staffed by a bunch of brain-dead 10th graders. read more

Orange chicken bajing beef and even broccoli and beef came together as gladiators and bravely fought their way past my taste buds and into my belly where I was defenceless. I stood my ground but the longer I fought the longer my torment. My foe won the battle but never the war! As I regained my composer I was ambushed by rice and fortune cookie. Every now and then I will treat myself to a lunch instead of packing it and bringing it from home and this is one of my favorite places to stop off for quick Chinese. Why you ask, would I rate it three stars if it's my favorite? Simple. This is basic Chinese food. They have pre-made everything, and all they have to do is heat it up and serve it. I order the same thing almost every single time that I go and all but ONE time since this place has opened I have had to wait there for them to either finish, or start prepping at least one part of my order. One day it was the vegetables, and when I ate them back at my desk they were still cold in the middle. One time it was the chicken, which ended up being very well cooked (by well I mean burnt) and didn't have enough sauce. One time it was the beef, which tasted chalky and stringy and had been mixed with something odd as far as the sauce was concerned. One time I had to wait 10 minutes for wontons which take 3 minutes to deep fry. You get the picture. I will not stop eating here, I will just stop eating here as often. It is too time consuming for me to spend my lunch hours here waiting for food to be ready, or wondering if it will be done right. read more

They had only been open a little while and there were spills all over the floors, the booths were dirty and the food was over cooked to the point when the server was serving the rice, he was scraping the bottom of the pan and ended up mixing in hard, crunchy and burnt rice. This specific location is absolutely terrible. I have been to various Panda locations before and NONE of them are as terrible as this. The food is always over cooked or luke warm. Very modern and clean, not too noisy even with a full restaurant. The staff was very nice and attentive throughout our whole experience. The reason I'm giving a 2-star review, to be blunt, is the food. The Kung Pao was hotter than any Kung Pao I've ever had before, to the point where it made my husband and I physically ill. The Orange Chicken tasted like pure vinegar. The Honey Walnut Shrimp tasted like it had sat for days, despite being freshly made, and the Beijing Beef was dry as a bone. Their Honey Sesame, despite being a premium item, was not premium at all. The reason we stopped at all is for my husband. He had never been to one, and I suggested he try it. I've been many times in Montana before I moved here, and was always extremely satisfied with the food. I though, being a chain restaurant, the food would be just as good, but I was sorely mistaken. Got there at 8:25 on Saturday night, they didn't close til 9. The side-ish door was locked already, had to walk over to main door in rain. Got in line, 2 of the 3 members of the party in front of me didn't get food because they didn't have what they wanted. I go to order, no chow mein or fried rice, so I got steamed with some veggies. They had one scoop of orange chicken left they said I wasn't allowed to have, so I had teriyaki chicken and some other chicken with veggies. Sat down, couple next to me was just leaving and said they got there at 8 and they were already out of everything. You have an hour left, cook more food! Instead they're cleaning with customers in store so they can all leave by 8:55...there's enough other fast food options in owatana or whatever city we're in that I wouldn't waste time coming here. That was at 5:45pm, with only 2 cars in front that'd already ordered and the restaurant practically empty! Re: Employee Derek T's offer to contact me and return: ABSOLUTELY NOT. That was already 20-minutes of our lives we can't get back. Even when my family tried going inside after backing out, the line (which was only a half dozen people) did not move & your staff just stood around talking with each other and not prepping, helping, or communicating what the delay was so guests could make an informed decision about our time. Placed an online order at 5:15 for "ASAP" pickup while in the parking lot. Estimated time for the 2 entree order was 10 minutes. Walked into the restaurant and noticed no other customers. Informed people behind counter I had an online order. I proceeded to sit in the restaurant for 35 minutes waiting for my order to be filled. During my time waiting the staff helped 2 people who walked in and filled an online order for a guy who walked in after me with the same entres. Staff made no apologies for the wait. Though I'd heard of Panda Express, I'd never eaten there before. Being my first visit I didn't know what to expect and went through the drive thru (SO convenient!) without much expectation. I was so surprised and so impressed by the level of professionalism of the staff! The my order came out very quickly, especially for being made to order, and was fresh, appealing and absolutely delicious!!! Although I have since moved from the area, I won't be able to return to this location but I am thrilled to know that there is a location close to home now! I WILL be checking it out! This particular location is not interested in keeping their business successful or customers coming back. Since they opened a couple of years ago they have changed their closing times on 3 occasions. They used to be open until 9. Now they close at 8:30 pm. What other business in Owatonna closes at 8:30? What an odd closing time, none of the other fast food franchises in town close at that time. And we went there once 50 minutes before closing and we were told that basically they were closed for the day and would not be making any fresh food. They had 3 semi-warm piles of food available and no lo mein left. I told them forget it then. We went back to our car & watched as other customers went in and promptly left just as we had. I give this business less than a year, then it will be out of business. They have garnered a bad reputation in town for the awful crappy customer service.
