I'm a big fan of Chinese mustard, but beware: it will make you cry, both from enjoyment and from the pain of your sinuses lighting on fire. Worth it anyway. If you like egg rolls, they're a must. They're enormous and packed with the freshest ingredients. I always regret loading up on appetizers because I'm full before the real food shows up, and I do it every single time. I've had a lot of the noodle dishes and each one is better than the last. If you're a tea drinker, they have a huge selection. I'm sad to report that I ate too fast and only snapped pictures of the desserts. They were as exceptional as everything else. Service is A+. I just wish I lived a little closer. Or maybe not, because I'd gain 20 pounds. It's a must try. Trust me, you'll be back.

Once things got going, my server was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. The atmosphere is pretty cool, a little moody. I love the Chinese ceiling decorations, with red lantern balls on the bar side and white hanging lanterns in the dining room that look like they're floating away. I also really love the large, pergola-covered patio. It's enclosed on three sides with louvered windows separating the dining area from the sidewalk. With the louvers fully open, you still get the open street feel and can see people passing by, but there's a nice barrier between your table and the people and dogs walking right next to it. The weekday lunch menu is simple and straightforward, with really good pricing. I ordered two shareable plates: soup dumplings (4 pcs) and chili wontons (5 pcs), plus a soda. A $20 bill covered everything, including tip. That's pretty nice these days, and I certainly didn't leave hungry. The soup dumplings came out piping hot and full of broth, which had a rich, full flavor. I really enjoyed the filling, too. Those alone have me looking forward to another visit. The chili wontons weren't quite my favorite. They came in a bowl of chili-flavored broth, and I had been expecting more of a chili-oil preparation. For me, the flavor was a little watered down compared with what I had in mind. That said, the lighter broth kind of works for lunch, and I really enjoyed the wonton filling. Overall, I enjoyed lunch and felt like I got a lot for my money. Next time, I'd like to sit outside and try one of the lunch entrées. Several caught my attention, though I may have to make room for more soup dumplings, too.

My husband and I have been here twice for dinner and have ordered the peking duck both times (we didn't need to reserve ahead of time or anything). The duck is very good with crispy skin, plus you get all of the usual accoutrements (cucumber, scallion, hoisin sauce). My one gripe is that I tend to prefer the thin crepe pancakes over the steamed buns that get served here. Other than the duck, we have tried two of the eggplant dishes here -- eggplant with spicy garlic sauce and braised eggplant. Both were tasty and worked great as a veggie option to go along with the peking duck!

And wow, the taste is the exact same. The decor is the exact same. The people are the exact same. It was truly a feeling of nostalgia that's hard to describe. My favorite dish has always been, and still is, the bamboo shoots with pork. It is so fragrant, umami, and simply delicious. The west lake soup is also a classic done so well - pro tip to add white pepper to give it a little kick. The steamed pork belly was okay - sauce is flavorful (a touch salty) along with the preserved greens but the pork wasn't as tender as I had remembered it. The fish filets are fried to perfection, full of salt/pepper flavor, and pairs well with the jalapeños. If you don't like fish, you can get the same flavor with the pork version of this dish, which I also really like. The service can be a little slow because it's just 1 chef and 1 waitress who own the restaurant - same people that have run the show since I first came here probably almost 30 years ago! Incredible to see them still working so hard and serving delicious food. They'll never know how much their restaurant and food means to me!

The ambiance was good, people talking amongst themselves along with some music. We did like how the kitchen was open to see them making the noodles and buns fresh. We ordered the following: Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken, Spicy Mapo Tofu, Pan Fried Pork Xiao Long Baos, Pork and Shrimp Wonton Noodle Soup, Hunan Stir Fry Beef and Spicy DanDan Noodles. The Taiwanese popcorn chicken was a great appetizer, crunchy and flavorful. The spicy mapo tofu was very delicious, and it was spicy while being silky smooth. The pan fried Xiao long Baos had a sesame seed bottom that complimented it well, and best eaten with a little soy sauce and chili. The pork and shrimp wonton noodle soup had a clean and light broth with freshly made noodles. The Hunan stir fry beef was very delicious with the flavorful beef and veggies. The spicy Dan Dan noodles were also pretty tasty as well with the sauce. We just wished that it had more meat in the noodles, but the fresh noodles are delicious. The waitress was very attentive to us from making sure we had everything and answering our questions. We initially didn't plan to come here, but we were glad to come across this restaurant with the quality and service. **This review is based on a Sunday evening to-go order.**…read more While these folks were polite on the phone and in-person -- and the restaurant was bright and clean when I came in to pick up my order -- I cannot recommend this place. First, I ordered the Chinese Fried Chicken (half), which is supposed to be brined in soy and hoisin, then deep fried in a light batter. This chicken was no more brined than a rock in the desert, and it was just as dry, even the dark meat pieces. The steamed rice was fine, as was the beautiful bok choy. The dish, overall was a huge disappointment. The chicken lo mein was also a letdown, as it had an underlying sweetness that I've never experienced with this dish. Two bites were taken and it (along with the chicken) ended up in the hotel trash can. A couple of positives: I enjoyed the hot & sour soup, and the egg rolls tasted as if they were rolled in-house, which is a rarity these days. I live a few hundred miles down the road and don't get to downtown Dallas very often, so the odds of me patronizing this place again is already slim. But, in the event I find myself here in the future, I will avoid this restaurant.
