This is their chicken chow mein. If you are expecting fried noodles with chicken, that's not how they make it.

Ugh. After Hunan gate closed, we have been in search of another great Chinese restaurant. We ordered kung pao chicken, chicken lo mein, and moo shi pork fro Panda Cafe. The kung pao was disappointing - it seems like it was coated in flour before cooked, so it doesn't seem as fresh and healthy as we are accustomed to. It's more like something you'd get in a mall food court. The chicken lo mein was colorless with limp vegetables and a clear sauce - not what you'd usually expect (fried noodles with chicken and lots of vibrant veggies). The moo shi pork was 99% cabbage and 1% meat. It tasted okay but I couldn't finish one pancake worth of it before getting tired of the flavor. Our search continues...

Good take out and quick delivery service! I enjoy the sweet and sour chicken along with the beef and broccoli. They honor the menu coupons as well

Stumbled upon this place tonight. The food is pretty good. The portions are a good size as well. Will definitely visit again.

Steamed Pork Dumplings

Overall it is pretty decent Chinese takeout and delivery. I ordered chicken with broccoli combo (Chicken fried rice and spring roll), steamed pork dumplings and wonton soup. The chicken with broccoli was pretty good, the chicken was a little rubbery but I enjoyed the sauce and broccoli. The chicken fried rice that came with the combo seemed overcooked and very dry. The egg roll was also disappointing and wasn't like the usual egg rolls I have had from Chinese places. The steamed pork dumplings were the best thing in my order. Had awesome flavor and the right among of dough in the outer layer. I would definitely get these again. However, the wonton soup was absolutely awful. The dumplings in it were falling apart and the broth had no flavor, I would avoid trying it. Delivery arrived in 40 minutes on a Friday night around 7pm. The delivery guy was nice and the food was all very hot and fresh. It isn't New York caliber Chinese but for this area I felt it was adequate compared to other places I have tried. I would order from here again

A friend who is a novice to this type of cuisine, was interested in sampling a variety of Asian style dumplings, and this place definitely fits that description. The spot can get busy during the prime time 6-8pm dining segment, so I'd recommend making reservations to guarantee seating. Located in the heart of Arlington at the intersection of Wilson and Clarendon Blvd, parking can be a challenge but if you're willing to walk, there is usually availability in the surrounding neighborhoods. The interior is beautifully decorated. Tile flooring is complimented by blonde hardwood ceiling and wall accent pieces, while bamboo lighting fixtures provide soft illumination. The menu is rather extensive and runs the gamut from soup based, fried, and steamed dumplings. There are also appetizers such as scallion pancakes, tofu with perserved duck eggs, and dim sum ...but we decided to stick with the more traditional style steamed dumplings. A pot of hot jasmine tea arrived to share and we appreciated the refills of hot water through out the meal. Pork soup dumplings - or xiaolongbao (XLB) - arrived first and I provided a brief primer as to how to enjoy this dish. XLB are delicate steamed dumplings filled with seasoned pork and a rich, savory broth that bursts with flavor when you take a bite. My recommendation was to nibble off a corner, and then allow the contained broth to drain into the soup spoon. If you bite directly into the dumpling first, it will likely make a big mess as soup squirts everywhere. We agreed that the pork broth was extremely flavorful and not too salty. I also suggested making a dipping sauce of the black vinegar, chili oil, and just a tiny splash of soy sauce. Dipping the XLB into the sauce amped up the spice and enhanced the flavor. The other two dumplings arrived a few minutes later. Of the two, the chicken and shitake was preferred. Seasoned chicken and earthy shiitake mushrooms are mixed and then steamed to bring out an umami-rich flavor. This was quite good. I grew up eating this type of pork/cabbage dumpling, so while it was solid, to me, it was quite "boring." The pork dumplings needed the dipping sauce for sure. Service was fine. Dirty plates were removed when appropriate while water glasses and the tea pot refilled when necessary. My only observation, and not a complaint, is that I can understand why some reviews say this place is "expensive." I don't necessarily concur with that assessment since I think the food is quality. However, paying $11-$15 for a plate of 5-8 dumplings can add up quickly. Still, for a restaurant where a diner can try a variety of different dumplings in one spot, I think the prices are reasonable. Dinner for two adults - a pot of tea and three entrees - with tax and tip came to about $61.

Came with my family and we ordered a smorgasbord of things, way more food than we could reliably finish between four people. We got the Seoul hot chicken bao buns, curry laksa, roti canai, chili crisp wontons, jerk wings, gochujang salad, edamame, nasi lemak, and one other dish whose name I can't remember at the moment (told you we ordered a lot!). One of the standouts for me was the roti canai; I liked the texture of the roti and the curry it came with was flavorful (though it's a shame that it arrived after all the entrees, despite it being an appetizer). The nasi lemak was pretty good too. I can't say any of the other dishes we had were particularly good or memorable. Not a place I'd be able to recommend for its food, unfortunately. To add insult to injury, the service felt quite lacking. It started off well: we were greeted really warmly by one of the chefs (he also seated us because there was no host present at the time). He explained the concept of the place to us and gave us a preview of a family-style prix-fixe option they offered. After that, however, all semblance of "service" disappeared. Our server took our orders and delivered them to our table, and that was it. Things arrived in a super strange order; one person got a single entree while the rest of us looked on, then finally more things started arriving, but the whole thing just felt chaotic and strange. There was no friendliness, no apology, no information shared with us throughout. Though we were told our server would tell us more about the family style option, he never did; when I finally asked about it, he said he didn't tell us because he figured we'd wanted to get cheaper stuff since it was happy hour. I can understand the thinking, but shouldn't that have been our decision? Can't help but feel like he was making an excuse to gloss over his mistake. Speaking of happy hour, I will say that that seems to be one of the perks of this place. Five bucks for a few bao buns or some wings is pretty good in this economy! That's maybe the only reason I could see myself ever going back after this experience. Too many better places exist that I'd rather repeat or try. I should note that I started this review with a 3/5, since nothing seemed egregious, but by the end realized it was really more of a 2/5 experience between the meh food and the bad service. Had one of those been better, it'd def be a 3/5. P.S. Random sidenote: The "veggie-ish" menu was a bit confusing at first. All the items on the list seemed to have no meat, except for one -- the Vietnamese chicken salad. We had one vegetarian in our group so it stood out to us as a strange grouping of things on the menu!

90 minutes of unlimited plates, yes please!…read more I'm very been to Yunnan a couple of times but this was my first time trying their Chef's Endless Table experience. There are two tiers to the menu that are priced at $44 and $69 per person. The menu offered a little bit of everything from Bao buns to their popular Mixian noodles. The restaurant's design was clean, chic and minimal.

Ordered the Mogu Shiitake Mixian Noodles like last time; overall it was solid, though the hard-boiled egg probably could have benefitted from a little more time in the broth, but it was near-closing, so not a big deal. Unfortunately, the service quality has ebbed since my last visit. My server, while outwardly calm and friendly enough, was eager to remind me of their imminent closure thrice during my meal. I eventually had to say "Yes, I'm aware" to ensure I understood. I suffer from heartburn and need to pace my meals, so this felt like a rather passive-aggressive "get out" which I didn't appreciate for the sake of my own physical health. Moreover, I asked at the end of my meal if I could apply a $5 off coupon I received for my birthday. The server told me that the manager has to be on duty in order to apply the discount code, and that they already left. I found this bizarre, having worked with Toast POS systems before, I know this isn't a difficult thing to train your staff on. This was compounded by the fact that I had to wait an additional 10 minutes for another employee, ostensibly an assistant manager, to apply it, and she wasn't even aware until I flagged her down. Again, solid fare; always love when I get to stop in to Yunnan for that reason alone, so I still recommend it. Unfortunately, I think the management should circle back on a few items with the staff in terms of service quality.

Chinese is often a takeout cuisine, but this place was bustling and had more of an interior ambiance than I expected. My food was ready in a timely fashion, but for some reason they didn't include the drink I ordered, and it wasn't even on the printed receipt; maybe they have some separate system for drinks or something. They resolved this and got me the beverage I paid for quickly enough. From a reasonably diverse vegetarian selection, I ended up with a sauteed cabbage dish with jalapenos which gets a bit soggy as leftovers but provided some needed fiber, as well as a fairly basic but tasty homestyle tofu. Their ma po tofu had a significant note of astringency and visible peppercorns, although not a ton of numbing sensation for some reason. Overall, it was a very soy and garlic set of meals. My toffee tea likewise was not fancy, but delivered the promised flavor. Portion wise, three dishes mixed in various combinations yielded three full meals. You could go a long way in DC by putting out pretty good Chinese food, and that's what this place is doing.

We've since ordered multiple times, but the quality of the crispy beef has been inconsistent. Sometimes it scores a five, while other times it dips to a three, likely due to different chefs preparing the dish. I noticed this firsthand during my last visit when I picked up my order. Though I was excited to indulge in the crispy beef again, it turned out a bit tougher than usual. No service issues. Restaurant is clean and inviting. I'd love for TNR to refine this dish so it maintains its deliciousness consistently, as I truly enjoy it and will definitely be back for more.

We have gone through times where everything works well and others where the experience is as crisp as a soup sandwich. I clearly ordered a starter and stated I wanted the two entrées to arrive after that. The starter (crispy pork belly) and an entrée seafood pan fried noodles (entrée 1) were brought together. A little irritating but for the price point not end of the world, even though we purposefully pair these two entrées together for their contrast of heat to balance out the course. We finish the pork belly and seafood pan fried noodles and wait. Then we have to followup and ask where is our second entrée (stir fried chili beef). It had clearly been waiting in the kitchen. It was barely warm. PLUS there was NOTHING hot about the stir-fried chili beef. Something was clearly janky in the kitchen because we have had this dish before at this restaurant and liked it for the spice. My toothpaste had more spice than the dish we were served. The restaurant was not busy and was staffed well. I could see both in the kitchen and saw plenty of front of the house staff, so I can't give a pass for that. My recommendation is stay away for a while and HOPE things get sorted. If you do go, we had a starter, two etnrées, two white rice, a glass of wine, and a beer. Total price with 15% tip was $116. When (if) service and cooking improve, it could be a good value. I'm hoping....
