The server, whose name was Kam, was most gracious, and did his best to make sure we made knowledgeable choices about what we ordered, and he was attentive after we had our order. My partner had the chicken noodle soup, and it had such a fabulous broth and was full of noodles and shredded chicken. I had to have several spoonfuls of it myself. I chose the vermicelli with beef and an eggroll. Each table was equipped with soy sauce, sriracha, chili pepper oil, and Hoisin sauce. The overall lighting, ambiance, and cultural appeal of the restaurant is pleasant. I noticed that we had quality (not wooden) chopsticks instead of American utensils, but I'm sure they have forks for the picky or clumsy folks. I cannot eat Asian food without using chopsticks; it just isn't the same. His soup featured one of those lovely china/porcelain spoons with a glorious absence of metal. Possibly the only thing about this entire meal I could offer suggestion for improvement is the tiny scrumptious eggroll could have been larger. However, the servings overall were generous and reasonably priced. I even have a small to-go box of noodles for tomorrow. Additionally, I got to try my very first BOBA tea! I am not sure why they call it tea because it's more like a slushy with those little Boba balls and a wide straw. There are 15 different flavors offered, including avocado (which I was not brave enough to try). I had banana, and it was very good. I thought it mildly pricey at $4.50 but novelty drinks usually have novelty prices. I really wish we had visited this restaurant before, but as I said, we will be returning. They care about the food and the patrons. This time, we got takeout. We tend to alternate between Thai Thai and Thai Express (both are wonderful and authentic, with great flavors and spice). We got some of our favorites: drunken noodles (pad see Mao), packed with egg noodles, zucchini, broccoli, onions, bell peppers, carrots, mushrooms, and basil. They really do shove this dish full of spice and fresh veggies. I got the level 4, which is a level below "Thai hot." Honestly, I will say they probably serve things hotter and more accurately in the restaurant. I didn't think my takeout was a level 4 . . . certainly nowhere near the next level of Thai hot . . . I suspect this is because they expect palm colored people to shy away from spice, and if not in person, they can't confirm what they REALLY mean when they say "spicy" or "hot." We also got the pineapple fried rice and the lo mein. Honestly, a lot of our dishes overlapped, but we were fine with that because we knew this food would be high quality and would carry over into lunch the next day. Thai Thai offers authentic takes on all of the above as well as pad see ew, lard na, pad wooden, various soups. They offer the whole range of noodles, from thick and beefy egg noodles to stir-fried glass noodles. Fried rice with pineapple, sriracha, crab, sardines. In addition to noodles of all textures and sizes, they also offer a multitude of flavors: ginger, veggies, brown sauce, basil eggplant, sweet and sour, garlic, cashew, peanut, pepper, sesame . . . or even "three tase," or their special three flavor sauce. Tons of curry . . . red, green massaman, panang. Meaty dishes like basil steak, BBQ pork ribs, roasted duck, lamb . . . seafood like scallops, lobster, salmon, pompano. This is a Western Kentucky mainstay. We must protect Thai Thai and Thai Express at all costs!

By the time it finally showed up, we were so fed up we just had it boxed to take home. And here's the kicker: it wasn't even a busy night. Well over half the tables were vacant. There was absolutely no excuse for such inattentive, careless service. A restaurant's reputation rests as much on service as on food. Ichiban may still be known as a Bowling Green favorite, but if they keep operating this way, that reputation won't last. Right now, they're failing their customers in a big way.
