Was driving through the area, and this quaint little place caught my eye. It wasn't super busy, so my family and I decided to check it out, and we are glad we did. Family of 6 was sat immediately, and we ordered the Vegetable Tempura and Shrimp Tempura. Both were fresh, decadent, and piping hot. Alongside this we received a delicious broth soup, which was definitely nice after the cold day. Our sushi came out fast, and one bite in, we ordered more rolls. They have different platters and even a sushi boat, so we ordered the basic platter along with an Alaskan, 2 Californias, and 2 Caterpillars, as well as a Tiger roll. Incredible. The servers were kind and knowledgeable about the rolls, and the chef was so sweet. If you're driving by, it's definitely worth the stop. read more

We used to live in Bowling Green 15+ years ago and recently returned. Many of our favorites were gone, but Kyoto was still there!! We stopped in for lunch and decor was pretty much exactly the same, but it's the food we care about really. We were greeted and seated right away. Still same friendly service. The hibachi was still amazing, I love the shrimp, my kids had the steak and my daughter got a couple of sushi rolls. She loved them! Still a 5 star place in our book! read more

Very good lunch. The food came out with generous portions and had a delicious yet clean taste. I usually don't like hibachi or teriyaki but this place made me love them. I highly recommend this restaurant especially to the people who hate food that tastes like MSG. The food seemed to use very very little MSG or none at all. So glad we choose here. We love Japanese and can be quite particular. Teriyaki sauce is homemade and wonderful. Ginger yum yum sauce was creamy delicious. Salmon was perfectly cooked. Steak was flavorful and tender. Vegetables were fresh and plentiful. Seaweed for sushi was not fishy and definitely fresh with big chunks of ripe avocado. Kyoto's is seriously one of the best Japanese restaurants I've ever eaten at. I used to live in Bowling Green many years ago and ate there on a regular basis. I recently was in BG again and decided to stop in and it's just as good as I remember--even more surprising the prices are still just as cheap! This is typical hibachi grill style food at 1/3 of the price. The only catch is it's a diner and cooked in the back rather than table-side. Which is fine because even at those hibachi places I'm long over the show and dining with strangers aspect and sit in the dining side there too. So Kyoto's has great chicken, steak, and seafood. What sets it apart is that every vegetable--broccoli and squash included--is excellently, addictively seasoned and tasty! The ginger sauce is delicious as well--fattening I'm sure but who cares when it's this good. Seriously--nothing on the menu is more than 13 bucks and that's for seafood and steak options. read more

Started out with an over salted non-descript broth. Followed by shrimp and chicken. The shrimp were not clean, the chicken was overcooked and dry. The fried rice was mush. I also got the eggroll, which tasted a little bit like a dirty dish rag. There was food on the carpet, there was food on our seats before we sat down. Needless to say we did not eat our meals and when I told the waitress that I was not happy the food was not good she just brought me the bill. With an apology. Nothing else. My daughter had the steak and chicken, she picked out the steak and left pretty much everything else. I felt bad about not eating either of the meals and I probably should've asked to speak to a manager when the waitress did nothing. Oh well. Moving on to something else. read more

Well I should have judged, service was super slow even though there were only 3 different tables seated. Our silverware was dirty, and the drinks had an old taste. The food took a while longer then expected because once again there were only 3 tables seated. The food was hot and tasted alright. That night came the WORST, my whole family of 6 had food poisoning. Decided on this place on a whim as it had better reviews than the other 2 restaurants in the same strip mall. The quantity of the food for the price makes it a good deal. The meat was cooked pretty decently. The name of the restaurant suggests it is Japanese food, but this place is very unauthentic. No chopsticks were provided, the decor is clearly not Japanese, and the menu items barely had any Japanese influences. Well, we are not disappointed. The restaurants are decorated like old food court served scattered old table, our party originally think of bailing out judging by poor worn tables, fortunately for us, we stay. The food was first class. The quality of teriyaki steak, which the majority of us ordered tasted just like it's from a Japanese steakhouse. Some ordered teriyaki salmon was also impressed. I really love this place. The price is just so fantastic and if you go in on a day that is kind of slow the service is super fast. We have come here a couple times and both times it has been fast and delicious. I love that you can get the japanese hibachi food w/o paying over $20 a person. Ambience is toward the local cafe/greasy spoon style, but clean. Got away for $16 with tip for two full meals and it was tasty.
