If you're in the Upper West Side, Panchos is a great spot to grab a couple of tacos. Our group tried asada, pollo, and al pastor tacos and loved all of them--the meats were seasoned well and were juicy, and the cilantro, onions, and salsa were quite tasty. We also got a side of tostones, which were a big hit. The workers at the restaurant were really friendly, and I'd love to go back to give them more business. read more

So happy to have discovered this neighborhood joint. I've only gotten delivery but food has been delivered quickly, is fresh and hot, and nothing is missing. Delivery guy is super nice. It's cash only but i thought prices were reasonable esp compared to the prices on GrubHub etc. Favorites so far are the shrimp tacos, agua fresca, coffee, and vegetarian nachos (which has actual vegetables in it!). Lots of food just not that great! Panchos is an interesting Mexican food dive. When you walk in you will notice it is a tight spot with a few tables and pizza???? What pizza? I guess that goes with Mexican now a days. They offer breakfast food, mexican, and pizza. I ordered the enchiladas which I was told was their best item and boy was I disappointed. The dish came tortillas, pork, rice, beans, lettuce, tomato. The pork was extremely dry and not very flavorful and same thing with the rice and beans. Overall it was very bland. The place is your typical NYC hole-in-the-wall. There are about two four-tops near the entrance and three two-seater high-tops further back near the kitchen/register. When you walk in you either have a seat at the table if you're eating in and they'll serve you or order at the counter if you're ordering to-go. I love the fact that they have an open kitchen. It allows you to see everything going on and even your food being made. They have a variety of menu items to choose from; e.g. tacos to pizza, but what they're really known for is their Mexican food. Their burritos are great and so are their salsas. Both the green and the their red salsas are really good, so I now always request one of each; and yes, both are nice and spicy. They used to deliver on Seamless, but for some reason I keep getting calls from them to say that Pancho's cannot process my order through them anymore so now I have to call my order in. I know, I know, it's not THAT big of a deal but I enjoy the convenience of online ordering. Hopefully they do that again soon. Also they do not have just chips and salsa but they have chips for their nachos and salsas, so unsure why they wouldn't just let me purchase it that way. Eh, oh well. read more

Friggin' awesome homestyle Mexican food. Huevos Rancheros are the best ever and I'm from the Southwest. Quesadillas are great too. I love it just plain cheese and they are made with Oaxaca cheese. Even the pancakes are good! Nice neighborhood hang out. Everyone from cops to criminals, locals and tourists!! And clean! And there's always a soccer game playing. Worst Mexican food I've had. Overpriced, almost $14 for a burrito. The burrito was to loosely wrapped and everything fell out when I tried to eat it(the fact that it was too big also meant you probably would have trouble taking a bite and still keep the whole thing intact). I ordered beef, but I discovered probably different kinds of meats in there, and I couldn't even tell what kinds of meat those were, some were brownish and some were white. Gross. Got the huevos rancheros. It came on a big plate with rice, black beans, eggs with green sauce, and a chorizo sausage split in half. It was filling and tasty, with all the parts seasoned the right amount and coming together quite nicely. I think I might need a return visit to accurately rate this place, since I only tried a single menu item- for now it's a solid three stars. I walked in this past Saturday, hoping to find something delicious and capable of saving me from/soaking up my horrible hangover. Not only are the portions huge, but the prices are a literal godsend to anyone who is on a budget. They didn't charge any tax, so the burrito was $10 even, the size of my baby cousin, and served with free guacamole and salsa fresca! That's a serious bargain. If you are waiting hungrily for your next paycheck and only have a few dollars to spend until Friday, I want you to try Panchos spot. And now for the food... I ordered a chicken burrito which comes with: sour cream, lettuce, tomato, rice, beans and cheese. I asked for jalapenos and onions, and their hottest hot sauce. My jaw dropped when this Godzilla looking thing was presented to me across the counter, and I knew I'd never be able to finish, but I attempted to tackle that beast, anyway. I failed miserably, but left Panchos very full. The rice was pretty bland, but the beans were decent. Their hot sauce wasn't even remotely hot- fine. Good for when you're really hungry and just want to stuff your face. The breakfast burrito is served all day and is delicious and very filling. I don't know why people rave about this place! I was craving burritos and decided to go to this spot instead of chipotle. Extremely disappointing, 1 chicken burrito and 1 steak burrito cost us $27? Ridiculous. I did not receive guac or chips just some tasteless salsas. As previous reviews mentioned, the burrito was huge but whats the point of having a burrito if its TASTELESS?! The rice and chicken was bland. The beans were okay but nothing amazing. My advice? Stick to breakfast.. its hard to mess up breakfast. This place has a good size menu so if your looking for variety come here. They have everything from Chorizo egg con arroz y frijoles to a burger with fries, breakfast sandwiches and lastly wait for it...........pizza. I ordered the chorizo and egg and I wasn't disappointed. My girlfriend ordered taquitos and they came with 4 with half chicken and half Bistec (steak). This place may not look like much from the outside, but it hit all the right notes during a recent lunch there. I had the burrito al pastor and others in my party had tacos and quesadillas. The food was delicious and the restaurant was cozy and welcoming. It felt like the rare authentic Mexican food restaurant in a sea of americanized and bland versions of Mexican food. I was looking forward to trying this place, and unfortunately I was fairly disappointed. Ordered a lengua burrito and guac/chips, and both were very bland. The salsas added very minimal flavor. I ended up adding some salt, which I almost never do, to salvage the meal. The burrito was expensive ($10) for what was included. There was very little lengua, which lacked flavor, and mostly filled with rice and beans, which also lacked flavor of any kind (salt, spices). Like others have mentioned, the burrito is not rolled neatly so it will fall apart easily if you do not hold it right. The guacamole was fresh but lacked any flavor, not worth it for $8. It's a good place if you want to try "Mexican" food, the tacos are good and they have a variety of flavors.
