After selling from this corner on Garnville for the better part of a couple of decades, this bakery showcases a myriad of quality pastries at reasonable prices. The best time to come is in the daytime, especially the mornings. There might be a small line from time to time, but they're after the same buttery aroma of fresh baked goods. Do not take a single item here for granted; multiple things here run out on the daily. The friendly mom and pop team are often here and quite accommodating. They are brutally honest about which batches are good or bad, and are quick to make recommendations for first timers looking to experiment with different pastries. From cookies to tarts to mini pies, the variety is some of the best one will find anywhere in TST, let alone the rest of HK. Classic egg tarts are always a win, but their milk custard and cheese tarts are addicting in their own right. The meat pies are decent, though the tuna leaves a bit much to be desired. The meat pies aren't of Aussie variety, but they've got magical fillings like BBQ pork and curry beef. Muffins and croissants occupy the upper level of the display and are constantly refilled till they run out. There is also a dessert stand right next to this, serving up cold treats and whole sized bday cakes. The fruit tarts have been my favorite, but they have been skimping on the fruit as of late. I imagine they would be a special quality desserts bakery, but the hot food attracts the bigger crowd and retains the following. Non-Chinese speakers should be relieved the staff speaks English. It is a cash only operation and there are no places to sit. If you're on the go and craving pies and or tarts, this is *the place* to score it.

My favorite Chinese bakery in Hong Kong…read more My brother said the Kee Wah bakery in International Financial Centre is larger than the one located at the basement of Sogo in Causeway Bay; perhaps there is a bigger selection. Whatever my brother says, I believe him. After all he is the wiser one. There are just two favorites I usually get in Kee Wah. They are: 1) Chinese sweet crispies (HKD20 for a pack of 4) 2) Pineapple Shortcake (HKD8.50 each) This shop is indeed bigger than the small stall in Sogo but the few things I bought can be found in the small stall as well. There are so many interesting pastries I like to get but the thought of packing them to head home to Atlanta in 9 days time is already giving me a headache. So I bought 8 pineapple shortcakes, 2 mango shortcakes (since I love mangoes!!) and two packs of sweet crispies. Will definitely try to save those pastries so I can slowly enjoy them when I return to Atlanta :)

I'm a local Bay Area native from San Jose, so suffice to say, I was really curious about Lady M when my HK cousin was raving all about it. Taste wise? The first half of the cake slice was very satisfying. However, it is a bit too rich for my taste and I find myself getting a little overwhelmed by the time I get to other half of the slice. This is the first time I've ever tried a crepe Mille cake, and I'm very interested in the concept. Lady M is definitely upper scale at about 9-10 USD per slice. My cousin and I ordered the earl gray while my mom ordered the original. I did love the ambiance and the simple, classy decor of the place as well as the bags/boxes. Hopefully, they'll bring a Lady M to the Bay Area!

Well yea, I can be a freak lol, but in this case it's all the bakeries "so far", not all were exceptional, but damn most are! Tai Cheong Bakery is the OG of bakeries on my list. Established in 1954 here on Lyndhurst Terrace, Tai Cheong Bakery is a legendary Hong Kong bakery famed for pioneering cookie-crust egg tarts. Known as a favorite of the last British Governor, Chris Patten, it is considered a must-visit for warm, buttery egg tarts, along with their signature Sha Weng (Chinese donuts). Bakehouse and Hashtag B Bakeries are the innovative ones that turned the "egg tart wars" upside down with modern recipes and Michelin baby followers lol. On the other side you have Tai Cheong Bakery that has been using the same recipe for 72 years. All amazing bakeries yet something in my heart will always favor the originals. On my visit I arrived about 10 minutes before opening and was second in line. For the 10 minutes I chatted with the sweet Korean lady who was there for the same reason as me... original egg tarts! There's a menu sign posted outside - lucky for those waiting in line because it's a photo menu with Chinese, Japanese, Korean and English translation. Once the doors opened I was second in line and the line of about a dozen formed behind me. Auntie greeted me in English and I ordered the following: Egg Tart (Cookie Crust) 12 HK$ x2, Puff Pastry Egg Tart 12 HK$, Milk Protein Egg Tart 15 HK$, BBQ Pork Pastry 7 HK$ x2. I actually wanted the Coconut Egg Tart, but oddly I ended up with eh Milk Protein Egg Tart. Ok, still ate it! Ambiance can be described as a good chi bakery, and apparently this is the original location from 1954, if so it was really clean and inviting. I didn't see a sit-down area tho. Everything I had delicious, yes including the Milk Protein Egg Tart I didn't order lol. The traditional Egg Tart (Cookie Crust) amazing with flaky crust and tasty filling expected from only the best Dan Tat! In the end, Tai Cheong Bakery is a must for egg tart fanatics. In fact, the menu was diverse enough to walk out with no egg tarts and still be happy as a clam. I heard the buns here are delicious. My only regret was not having a second visit, but it's only because it's located in Central and I was staying in Causeway Bay. Next time I'll jump on the Ding Ding for a second visit! Out of all the "traditional" bakeries this was tops! Pls follow my IG travel adventures: @eric_travel_guru

The interior is rather minimalist but clean. The cheese tart was so warm and fresh that it actually was a bit of a detriment. As I was about to grasp said tart to consume, the crust crumbled very easily and warm cheese filling flowed right round the tart cup and partly onto the bar table I was standing at. What I got to eat was quite good, however. The filling is smooth and not too sweet while the crumbly crust provided some (I suppose) structure to the dessert. There isn't a strong cream cheese flavor but more of a neutral cream flavor. I was just rather disappointed that I looked like a slob as I was consuming the dispersed dessert that resembled me dropping it on the floor. Like the decor, the service is minimal. While staff is not grumpy, don't expect much of a reception here.

The cheese tart (芝士撻) really started at the Causeway Bay location (https://www.yelp.com/biz/71IB0MVMT_FI9yWG4r0UNg), which after many lines and cheese tarts sold prompted the second location to be in good ol Kowloon. TST will forever have outlets of popular fad businesses. Only I don't think cheese tarts are a fad and that I think they're here to stay. Most folks can't get enough of them, myself included, especially at this location along Cameron Road. During the day time, the hubbub is so much that this place is often a mess during peak rush hours. It's easy to see why: the tarts are cheesy, ultra savory, and come in various flavors (baked cheese, matcha green tea, chocolate, egg custard). The only thing they aren't is cheap, which at $22HKD is a good grip for a single tart. Tarts aren't the only game for baked goods at this location thankfully, an item that often gets overlooked are their individual baked cheese cakes and custom pastries. In terms of selection, they alone put this location over their sister spot in Causeway Bay. My favorite of the bunch are the Blueberry Cheesecakes (藍莓芝士蛋糕), which I caution for lactose in tolerant folks is not kind to your insides. I would suggest a Caramel Egg Pudding (焦糖雞蛋布甸) instead. Last I visited, it was cash or octopus card only. They're always well staffed (if not overstaffed) with lots of eager young ladies who are looking to offer freshly baked Japanese goods to the masses. For cheese tart fans anywhere, this is one of the better spots to slay your inner cheesy cravings.

The restaurant is pretty spacious and when we visited, it was pretty empty. We had no trouble getting a table for our large group of six people. Staff speak some English and they have English menus available so we had no trouble ordering. I believe they're most known for the pineapple buns and egg tarts so of course, we ordered several to share. It's also an incomplete visit to a cha chaang teng without the coffee milk tea and on top of that, I also got a side of scrambled eggs. The pineapple bun was kind of dense and dry, even with the slab of butter. The egg tarts were also dry with a plain-tasting custard. The coffee milk tea was fine but we didn't realize until visiting another cha chaang teng that hot usually means unsweetened. And the scrambled eggs were so plain...I just remember cha chaang teng scrambled eggs being super silky and creamy. This was just disappointing and I didn't need to order normal, regular-tasting scrambled eggs. They're saving grace is how cheap everything was. For that price, it just felt like we got what we paid for...lower quality food. I was very confused because I feel like I read a lot of raving reviews about this place so maybe we visited on an off day. But out of every place we tried, this was pretty low on our list.

Unfortunately this did not meet my expectations, and was definitely my least favorite out of the restaurants we went to. Lots of seating available, for parties big and small. They have English menus available as well. The pineapple bun looked promising, but once I bit into it, the bun itself was not very fluffy and rather dense, and the crust didn't seem to have enough flavor to it. The egg tart crusts were also dry, and the custard itself was just ok. I tried a piece of my friends french toast, and that was pretty good, although they took the syrup away pretty early on even though we were still eating. The coffee milk tea was also just ok, nothing special and didn't really have a strong taste in either direction. I'd skip this spot and go to a different cha chaang teng.
